I continue to be amazed at the diverse beauty of our planet - and of the kindness of the people all around the world. I will admit that I was concerned about the charging of the electric tuktuk... it just takes so long sometimes! 😮 Sri Lanka is proving to be yet another gem!
Very true Mel, with the fast charging cables on route to the island and the UN coming into to help convert 500,000 tutktuk in the next 5 - 10 years, this is a VERY exciting time

Hii paddy I'm from sri lanka 🇱🇰 First I would like to thank you for your effort of showcasing the true beauty of our motherland into the world...The peak you climed is called the PETTIGALA MOUNTAIN because of the box shape of the summit.Yes it's a quite easy climb to make and the view is rewarding...and if you look closely you can find another hidden gems there like native butterflies and orchids like things...I also able to find some two or three orchids and some beautiful butterflies over the area...anyway emjoy your stay...your next destination is also a must visit in sri lanka...There's loads of beautiful peaks in sri lanka that torurist don't seem to visit...hope you'll enjoy at least some of it❤️
Great video...the people in Sri Lanka seem extremely friendly and it looks like a fantastic place to visit. Loved the temple and the views from the mountain top...don't think I'd be as close to the edge though 😬👍😁
I've visited Sri Lanka 3 times in the past 20 years, including the Jaffna region during a break in the conflicts. Beautiful country, although some of the once tranquil coastal areas like Unawatuna and Mirissa had become over developed when I last visited in 2018. I enjoyed this video by Paddy, and I agree with other comments with people being friendly. My only bad experience with people was in Negombo.
Paddy you’ve inspired me, this almost 60 year old to spend my last years on this planet doing what you do...being a You Tuber. I’ve given it a lot of thought, but now I’m set to do it. My first and foremost plan is to show the beauty of this planet and the wonderful beautiful people who inhabit it. We are after all, all wonderful and beautiful in our own right.
Hello. I am Sri Lankan. I am surprised about the video. I love your videos and you earned a subscriber. Thank you for support and showing the beauty of Sri Lanka.❤❤
Hi Paddy..I'm from Sri Lanka and thank you for visiting our country. Of course, there are a lot of beautiful places to visit here in the island. I suggest that you visit the northern province of Sri Lanka too. Jaffna is visited by locals as well as foreigners after the end of civil war and has now become a major tourist hotspot.
They should equip the roof of the tuk tuk with a solar panel and run it through an MPPT controller to replenish the battery. That way even if you run out of battery, worst case all you have to do is park in the sun and wait a while. Cool journey 🤙🏽 Thanks for the squarespace link.
I just flew into Sri Lanka from Canada. Spent 7 days in England and 4 days in Ireland and then rolled into Sri Lanka to my condo in Kelaniya. Will be travelling SL for the next 4 months. Enjoy the EPIC food and sights. Definitely head to Kandy and Ella!
I think there's a bit or creative accounting in terms of the guide saying that the Buddha was 2500 years old, given that Buddha was born in Nepal 2500 years ago and I am sure that it would have taken some time for his beliefs to have spread to Sri Lanka. According to the interweb the oldest Buddha statue is in what is now Pakistan and dates from the 2nd or 3rd century, so about 1800 years old. Interesting to see this part of the world. Almost took a holiday to Colombo back in 2008 ish, but plans changed.
There is archaeological evidence of Buddhism in Sri Lanka during the Buddha's time, specifically a cave was donated to one of Buddhas's key disciples by the Yakka clan, the inscription is on top of the cave marking the donation, learned this from an excellent series called Unlimited History on the country's history interviewing archaeologist Raj Somadeva (unfortunately it is only available in Sinhala for now, I think they will put the subtitles in Tamil and English with time). Archaelogical evidence shows Buddhism existed in Sri Lanka prior to Mahinda Thero's coming. Somadeva explains the popular story of Budhism coming to Sri Lanka through Mahinda, was the way king Devanampiyatissa encouraged adoption of a particular type of the Buddhism in the country. Similarly, I am sure early forms of Buddhism were popular in all countries surrounding India prior to adopting the more formalized forms that we popularly learn about from historical chronicles.
Paddy, thank you for these awesome videos, so cool to see these places from the perspective of us mortals. :) By the way your selfie camera is flipping the video image on the horizontal axis, you can disable it in camera settings by ticking "Save selfies as previewed" off. Thank you so much for the lovely informative video. I have never been to see these amazing places. Your concise commentary and pleasant demeanour helped much to the production.
