    Helpful hint for beginners: make sure the cat is closed out of the room before starting! This video is so helpful, but doesn’t warn of little paws grabbing the broom corn or swiping the jerk strings from the work table and flinging them across the room. Love how my broom turned out in spite of the feline help, thank you so much for such a clear and simple step-by-step.

    Love this!! Thank you...my husband grew quite a bit of broom corn this year and I wanted to find something to do with it. We went to Silver Dollar City in Branson Mo this past summer and saw a booth where a woman had made brooms from broom corn, she was not too willing to help a body get started so I am very thankful to have found you!! I will be here ALOT!! Better put the coffee on!! Great to meet you Jill!

    I just found your channel and subscribed. I want to learn how to tie brooms onto blacksmith forged handles. I have never tied before so I have to make all the tools and learn more. Thank you .

    This video is so helpful! Thank you! I've never made a broom before and am trying to teach myself, but I'm having a hard time finding a source for broom corn. Where do you source yours?

    how much broom corn do you need to make a broom? i am thinking of buying your broom kit and would like to get some of the broom corn to make a few. TIA

      it depends on the type of broom you want to make and how large the diameter is of the broom stick. Cobweb brooms maybe 1/2 #, hearth and sweeper brooms more. A good starting point is a couple of pounds of broom corn. That should make at least a couple of projects.

    Great video. One thing that I'm finding hard to see is whether, when you are braiding, you are taking every other one. I think you say that after the first one, but it goes so fast that I can't tell if that continues. This probably will be obvious once I start, but would just like to know. Thanks.

      Also is there a good source for the special equipment, like the spindle, needle, nails, vise, and the right string?

      okay, just found your broom kit page.

    • @jchoatebasketry
      @jchoatebasketry  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes, it's every other one, that's why in order to make the braid continuous it has to be an ODD amount of broomcorn.
