the director stated in the original script, Gibbs’ motive was because he “lost everything” after the end of the Cold War and vowed revenge on the U.S. government. he supposedly knew the terrorists from his CIA days and they offered him lots of money to be in their operation. the director took it out because it was “too long” and “irrelevant” to the main plot. but yeah, i was a little iffy too on why 15 min into the movie and he’s already the mole. they should’ve shown Gibbs, without revealing it was him, killing the other agents and opening the gun and vest cases, then revealing himself at the end.
If he survived get slammed around or slammed into the water, I kinda doubt it. Even if he survived the crash and found a floatation device he’s now exposed to the harsh ocean waves, harsh sun, and ocean predators. Also doubt they are going to send anyone out to save him, and even if they did then it would be insane trying to find him since the ocean is so vast.
He's a dead man either way, the plane practically disintegrates upon impact with Gibbs still aboard along with the others that didn't make it, or he falls victim to the ocean waters.

Great movie but gibbs is clearly the weak link It's never explained why is the mole and he doesn't do anything else in the movie other than giving acess to the weapons And instead of revealing himself the mole and joining the terrorists or something, he only makes a move at very end just to save his own ass At that point why have the character in the movie, just have the terrorists infirtrate the plan some other way
The terrorists probably didn't even know Gibbs was the mole. It's possible they just arranged the whole thing remotely with some guy on the Internet with the username luvmycountry1776 who happened to be a Secret Service agent.
It's always bugged me how it's never explained what Gibbs' motive was for helping the Russians. And the fact that we're shown that he's the mole so early on in the movie. This scene would be much more climactic and effective if we only just now found out that Gibbs was the insider.
Harrison Ford is a genius when it comes to picking movies with iconic roles to be acted. Indiana Jones, Han Solo as examples. As far as his acting chops go he's pretty mediocre. Take notice when he is hurt or wounded. He makes the same funny face and does the claws thing with his hands. He picks great roles and performs those rolls poorly in my opinion.
