I found out about her a couple of weeks ago, and despite being a 50+ metalhead, I was bawling my eyes out for her performance and story. At that young age, with that fantastic voice, expression and dynamics in her singing is simply amazing, and the stage presence as an adult. And then I realized that she don't speak French (she's Dutch), but learnt the song vocally. I don't know French either, but it went straight to the heart. Bravo! 🧅🔪

I discovered Emma within the last month. The first time I heard the song I cried even though I knew very few of the French words. I quickly looked for the English translation and it just made me cry harder. What a perfect song for such a talented singer. As someone who has struggled with a chronic illness since infancy, I can only imagine the emotions she feels as she sings this song. Bravo Emma!

@@sabina1118 Emma Kok - Voilà lyrics.
Listen to me, me, the “wannabe singer". Tell about me. To your loved ones, to your friends. Tell them about this black eyes girl and her crazy dream. The one thing I want is to write stories that reach you, nothing more.
And this is, this is, this is, this is me, even if naked, I'm afraid, yes, here I am in the noise and in the silence.
Look at me ! Or at least what's left of me. Look at me ! Before I despise myself. What can I tell you that someone else’s lips won't ? That’s not much, but everything that I have, I lay it down there before you, and that's it.
This is, this is, this is, this is me, here I am even if bared it's over, that's my face, that's my cry, here I am, too bad ! This is, this is, this is, this is me, Me, my dream, my desire, how I die, how I laugh, here I am in the noise and in the silence.
Don't leave! I beg you, please stay long! It might not save me, no, but to live without you I don’t know how. Love me like you would love a friend who's leaving forever, I want to be loved because I don't know how well to love my figure.
This is, this is, this is, this is me, here I am even if bared it's over, Here I am in the noise and in the fury too. Look at me finally ! My eyes and my hands too, everything I have is here, it's my face, it's my cry, here I am, here I am, here I am, here, here, here,
      …HERE I AM !

What a truly enchanting voice. I for one sincerely hope that this performance provides a platform for a beautiful and successful career. Being afflicted by a horrible medical condition is an example of how unfair life can be. However, this does not seem to have held her back. An example of a beautiful human being. I wish her good fortune in life. Sabina…difficult to suppress emotions with a song like this….a beautiful and meaningful reaction.

Now 16 year old Emma Kok is touring the world with conductor Andre Rieu's orchestra. Andre Rieu is the 6th best selling artist in the world in a line of Rolling Stones, Taylor Swift etc. They do 100 concerts a year so Emma Kok has performed in many countries already. Emma Kok's career is of to a good start.

All of us who know you were waiting for you to see this video. Sabina, I haven't seen you like this since the first time you listened to Dimash! This was something we will never forget. How could we? We just listened to a living 'angel' sing to us. ARE YOU THE ONLY ONE? Some of us have seen this video literally hundreds of times and most of us cry every time, especially when we watch someone like you react to this incredible moving performance. She has become an inspiration to millions of people around the world, particularly for those physically and mentally challenged to try and do things which they previously thought were impossible to accomplish. Vocally and artistically she is already a 'superstar' and her courage and determination will prevail and she will not let her condition stand in her way.

I have watched this video over a hundred times and cry every time. She is so raw and emotional. Please please look up the English translation to the lyrics and listen again when you know what she is saying. She doesn’t speak French but learned this song with a coach. She didn’t write this song but it is her story. Watching André Rieu conducting the orchestra but notice his eyes never leave Emma. He is leading the orchestra to follow her. He is a master talent. The man with the blue suit and black glasses that they show a few times is her father. The girl sitting next to him is her sister.

@@CarinaPiersay Yes, Carina, I am with you all the way. My comments were 'short story length' when the video first showed up and I've since shortened them to put emphasis on the affect she has on people. I'm glad you pointed out so many things which need to be said because we can guess a lot of people watching this video will be emotionally moved but will not search for more information about her and her personal story.
Carina, did you see the video of her riding in a car with a woman and they discussed the challenges she faced when she was very young? And, they sang 'Warrior' together and when it was time to belt out the song the woman driving the car was in shock listening to Emma sing so wonderfully.

It's such a melancholy song that it transcends language. You can sense the fear/anger/desperation of a first time singer throwing herself on the mercy of the audience (I looked up the translated lyrics after listening to this song wayyyy too many times..). Paired with her back story, just stunning and it always drags a tear to my eye.
Your reaction was pretty much what I expected (reminds me of your Lara Fabian - Je T'aime react) , very empathic and emotionally exposed/vulnerable but beautiful in it's honesty. Bravo!

What makes that even more stunning, this was the first ever performance of that version of the song, they'd never performed it in public before this night, only rehearsals, which were hard, as all of them, and Andre, had problems with their own emotions, and you can't play if you're full of tears.
It gets better, this was the first of 12 agreed appearances, and the very next day, Andre invited her to perform 2 concerts in Malta, then to be a guest at the Christmas concert series in Maastricht, and also to join him on his 2024 world tour, a series of 75 concerts in many countries, which runs until December, and I'd like to hope that Andre will keep her close after that, it's very clear that she's a really good fit into his extended family that is the orchestra, and with her health issues, long concerts are going to be a problem, she can only be off the pumps for 2 hours a day.
Seeing her live is indeed an experience, I had that joy in Dublin in May, and despite a lot of us thinking that her performance in Maastricht was perfect, she found lots of little ways to change it, and the result was sublime, an incredible evening that I won't forget for a very long time.
During May, as well as concerts in Ireland and the UK, she also performed at a number of special concerts across the Netherlands, an annual commemoration of the many American and other countries who lost lives during the liberation of the Netherlands from German occupation during WWII.
The best performance she did during that time was a challenging song, 'Father', originally sung by Demi Levato, and she absolutely nailed it, an incredible performance,
    th-cam.com/video/zXWBj7-edWU/w-d-xo.html
At the same event in the Hague, she also sang another song, 'Hero',
    th-cam.com/video/rohP0V3ECRY/w-d-xo.html
Another song at a different venue, ' 'you raise me up',
    th-cam.com/video/NIXB7TbeMvw/w-d-xo.html
The most high profile event of that series was in Amsterdam, she sang a stunning duet with April Darby, 'When you believe'
    th-cam.com/video/YG8WV1GFt_c/w-d-xo.html
This was a concert in the presence of the Dutch Royal Family, and a number of high profile politicians, so a very special event, and Emma more than delivered, she did a superb performance.
There are a number of videos of performances with Andre Rieu during the Christmas concerts, and again, Emma surprises people by doing things like sing unaccompanied for whole verses, which is rare for Andre concerts, but it's showing so clearly just how good she is, her performance of 'White Christmas' was sublime, despite a huge audience, you could have heard a pin drop, she so captured them all.
    th-cam.com/video/ZZEyhG2bEeM/w-d-xo.html
Later in the same concert, a costume change, and a very different song, 'All I want for Christmas is you'
    th-cam.com/video/xCBOVw7PErU/w-d-xo.html
I'm only scratching the surface here, there's a lot more I could mention, but I will run out of space, so I will close with my normal appeal.
Those who know me know how I end my posts, and I make no apologies for doing so, Emma deserves all the support she can be given, as her foundation works to help find better treatments, or even possibly a cure for this awful disease.
Emma's foundation is almost unique in terms of the work they are doing, there's been very little research into a devastating illness, the effects on the sufferers are huge.
Emma's foundation can be found at gastrostars.nl
Please, if at all possible, join me in making a (regular) contribution to her foundation, to enable them to help patients like Emma, and research this awful disease that has affected her from birth, and requires her to be tied to the pumps and feeding tubes since she was 9 MONTHS old, for 22 hours a day, hopefully, the work of her foundation will find a cure.
One of their main people is a surgeon who has a lot of experience in dealing with gastroparesis, and she is not only a surgeon, but also suffers from the same disease herself, to the extent that as a result of her condition worsening, she's had to leave her role in the hospital, and she is now dedicated to the foundation, and working to help find possible new treatments, or even better the cure that will free people like Emma to live a more normal life, rather than be tied to the feeding pumps for so many hours every day.
It will be so good if the work of Emma's foundation can lead to a better treatment, or even a cure, which will free her to do more singing, and it may be people here who make that possible.

@@robinakins4861 Rob, I would be more than pleased if the opportunity to meet Emma were to become reality, but I have to face the other reality, with the huge number of fans and followers she now has, I am just one very small grain of sand on a very large beach, she may know my name, but I have no way to be sure of that, so the chances of being invited to meet her are very slim, even if we were to be in the right place at the right time for that to happen. I can always hope, we're going over to Maastricht in December for one of the Christmas concerts, which if last year is anything to go by will be an amazing event.
Thank you for your kind words, I hope I am having some effect on encouraging support for Emma, I can't begin to imagine the pain and trauma she's endured over the years, and still has to cope with on a daily basis, she's touched on various issues on social media, but that's only the tip of the iceberg, there are times when the deep pain is visible in her emotions and eyes, they tell an incredible story of her absolute determination, and that's what motivates me to try and get more support for her, the dream of her foundation being able to provide better treatments, or a cure, that's a dream I can help promote, and this platform is as good a place as any to try and achieve that.

@@stevecgarry I'm sure with this world so full of fruits and nuts a beautiful young lady attracts more than a little bit of the wrong kind of attention and has to be very careful who can get near her. Totally awful and such a shame. Not only is she remarkably talented, but a tremendous role model - I have a daughter only about 6 months older than her.
She's quite inspiring as well... Definately a "Strijder" (warrior) but with a good heart and a noble purpose. That kind of makes her a hero in my book. I'm 51 years old, and obviously rather jaded towards what the world has become. Yet because of Emma, I'm now learning Dutch... because most of the information and research for gastroparesis has been stirred up by her foundation... in Dutch. While its easy to run through a translator its also a beautiful language to hear sung, and I enjoy learning new things.
I also enjoy using things I've already learned... Like my Electronics Engineering Degree... or my experience programming computers and micro-controllers... and my work with sophisticated electromechanical devices... all of which is telling me the pumps can be better adapted for younger patients. I'm sure you've seen the pictures of a much younger Emma being swallowed whole by her pump bag, and I don't want to see any child go through that anymore if I can help it. There's not enough patients to justify the expense of such an endeavor, unless someone is inspired to do it in the same spirit as Gastrostars was founded. (I had no clue how much red tape is involved in getting a medical device certified, or even the level of engineering necessary to make a practical and failsafe design) I might fall flat on my face trying to put something together, but at least I'll fall in the right direction. And who knows, I might just help some kids like my new hero.

@Only1Shadow Thank you for these comments, I too have some experience with electronics, but you are way more qualified than I am, and your plan and project is so good, and I wish you the very best of luck with achieving it, a family member is type 1 diabetic and his life has been hugely changed by a pump that gives him insulin doses based on a real time blood sugar monitor, for the first time since he was diagnosed, his blood sugar levels are being properly controlled, so your vision of a similar concept is absolutely valid and I wish you every success.
I'm not great with languages, and at 73, I don't think I will be able to learn Dutch, though like you, I'm impressed with how lovely it can be in song. As to getting to meet Emma at some stage, it would be so good if it happens, but the reality will probably mean I won't, but in the meantime,I will continue to do what I can to encourage people to support her foundation, in the hope that they will find answers for Emma and others, I have no way even to know if what I do helps. The only guide is that a lot of people like the comments I post, so that is the encouragement to keep doing what I can to spread the word about Emma.

Sabina, I couldn't agree more. I've seen this video about a dozen times and it gets me EVERY single time. Her singing, the audience and the beautiful amphitheatre are the epitome of western civilization, something we in the west take too much for granted. We will figure out her disease eventually and only a civilization like ours has the compassion to help the young and the old within its society. I have hope for this darling creature, I truly do!

She has to be on that machine for 22 hours. There is footage of her at one concert where the tube is seen slipping out of her gown going back to the band stand where her machine was. During the rehearsing for this concert, she has a wheelchair that accommodates Her, and her life saving device, that is too heavy for her to carry. classmates pick on her nonstop. I'm relating this to you all so that you all know what she's going thru just to entertain us and bring awareness to her cause. Such strength, such valor.

Sabina. Thank you for your lovely reaction. Putting your comments on the screen was much appreciated, rather than interrupting the performance as so many reactors do. I've seen this performance many times and still tear up; all her fans do! Two songs that further demonstrate Emma's feelings are Strijder (Warrior) See the official video with English lyrics. Also, Let Me Be a Butterfly (the Music festival version, with English lyrics. This was written for her). To see how powerful she can be on stage see her singing All I Want For Christmas, at Andre's Christmas concerts. Emma is connected to her feeding tubes 22 hours a day, so sings during the two hours of complete freedom. See her sister, father and brother at about 8:12. Mum is off stage ready to reconnect her. In Athens she celebrated her 16th birthday and Andre led them singing happy birthday, then the Greek audience spontaneously sang it in greek! She got at least three curtain calls.

@@mariadamen7886 I wouldn't exactly call it a cover. Pravi's rendition is more like a pop song. Maestro Rieu worked with Emma, changing the score completely and transformed it from the original which wasn't anything special (not to detract from Pravi - she is also very talented) into something that is distinctly Emma and has destroyed many boxes of tissue.

One person who had a daughter with same kind of condition said that her daughter chose suicide to escape it. So i am really hoping that Emma finds enjoyment in her life always from singing.
