How To Calculate and Understand Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) F Test.

  • เผยแพร่เมื่อ 30 มิ.ย. 2012
  • Visual tutorial on how to calculate analysis of variance (ANOVA) and how to understand it too. The tutorial includes how to interpret the results of an Anova test, f test and how to look up values in the f distribution table. The Anova example is for a one way anova test.
    I am rounding in the video, so if you are doing your own calculations you will not get the same exact numbers.

    You quite literally summed up an hour lecture that i didn't understand, into a 15 minute video that I did. Content like yours should be the future of online university lectures.

    Thank you very much for your compliments. I use a variety of different software including photoshop, D3, illustrator, HTML5, Final Cut, GarageBand and a few other products.
    Each video takes me a long time to create. My rule of thumb is each minute of video takes about 12 hours to create, so a 7 minute video takes me about 84 hours of development time.

Explains all the variables, how to find the variables, where to look up degrees of freedom in F tables. I would love to use more of these tutorials. • @MR2SpyerJournal
      @MR2SpyerJournal 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Jonathan Kabamba H0 is always that there is no difference between the variance of the groups. So if his test statistic fell in the green region, he would have stated that there is no statistically significant evidence that there is variance between groups so he would fail to reject H0. That would mean that there is no difference between stress levels of employees before, during, or after layoffs. H1 is the alternative. It is saying that there IS significant evidence to support that there IS a difference between the groups.

  • @laureld5204
    @laureld5204 9 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    So what is the point? All these videos show how to do some calculations and what to look at to say reject or do not reject a null hypothesis, but do little to make that knowledge useful. Your title says "understand" and you start with an example of context, but your ending does not come back to that. The rejection decision is not the end of the story, it is the beginning. If you reject, that means there is something worth looking at and so it is time to do some post hoc tests. Teaching without any context, even a general context, of what it tells us when we have a low p-value (other than "reject Ho") is useless. Computers do the calculations. We need to educate how to define a situation as one we can use ANOVA for, and what our results tell us. It doesn't take much time to add in a short explanation of that.

    • @highlandragdoll
      @highlandragdoll 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Very late, but I couldn't agree more. I was waiting for the understanding part. I'm struggling a fair bit with research methods, and I think part of it is to understand something, I -NEED- to know it's practical application. So far, through three ANOVA videos, my knowledge of them can be completely summed up as...
      It's better than a T-Test when it comes to more than two groups. I don't really grasp why.
      For watching three videos on the subject, that's a pathetic amount of knowledge to take from things...I was waiting all video for him to get to the 'understanding' part .

      I couldn't agree more. I'm not a student here looking to pass a test. I actually need to understand this stuff to apply it. If you're going to praise a product, you had at least better explain what's right about it instead of threaten people who give constructive reasons WHY it's wrong. This product is clean, but it is not a good-quality teaching of the terms of the expression. I explain elsewhere what the problem is. Can you explain between-group sum of squares? I didn't think so. Neither can anyone else who has watched this video. That's because he didn't teach what he said he would teach here.

    Great Job. I have read many books and watch many videos on ANOVA and none of them explained it as simple as you did. keep on the good job

    the difference between this content & similar videos is that your explanation makes me want to continue to understand how this stuff works - even if it’s ‘not on the final’ , which is the point of education in the first place.
    kudos and of course subbed!
