Today we're talking TRUE CLASSIC fragrances and discussing the 1970's with special guest: Persolaise Perfumes th-cam.com/channels/2Uoi3pjiNlfmMVcWzkngSw.html Let me know what is your favorite CLASSIC fragrance/perfume from this decade and stay tuned for the upcoming episodes featuring the 1980's, 1990's, 2000's and 2010's... Have a great day!
1970's: Rive Gauche tops my list....also original Opium, Chloe, Halston.....and Halston Z14 (men), of which I still have my original bottle and I occasionally open it for a sniff of magic
Max Forti & Persolaise Perfumes : What a great series and collaboration! New to the fragrance community, but as a child of the 70's (although most of my 'true living' was in the 80's & 90's as a teen/young adult), I cannot help but liken the Pierre Cardin bottle to the architect Lautner's Chemosphere building featured in Brian de Palma's 'Body Double'. The film's premise lends itself to the fougere/hairy chest 'heaviness' of the EDT. Looking forward to the rest of the series !
I can listen to Persolaise talk all day. I only found his channel recently so i was pleasantly surprised to see this collab. Awesome video Max, and great idea to tackle perfume from different decades. 2 thumbs up 👍👍
Finally found Persolaise's opinion on Chanel No. 19! He likes it. Thank Heaven. I was a teenager having fun in a cosmetics store, sampling one fragrance after another, and then I smelled Chanel 19 and everything changed. It was the most beautiful thing. And it was in a bottle! I actually remember looking all around the store, in shock, so much seemed to change for me in that moment. Why hadn't I smelled it before? Why doesn't every person on Earth wear it, all the time? It was the answer to *everything.* Imagine my dismay as I grew up and read reviews of Chanel 19 that described it as cold or... worse. *sigh, shaking head* It's not. It's amazing. It's love in a bottle, really it is. I collect it because of course I do. ( Good tip about Japan! My daughter is fluent in Japanese, we'll have to take a trip.)
I'm 21 years old and my signature scent polo green i got a lot of compliments from my friends it's amazing unique scent in these days nice review max👍👌
Great concept Max! I love the history of fashion and fragrance. I find it interesting to see how trends in fragrance align with the pop culture of the times. I’ll be following this series closely. I can’t wait for the 80-90s. Happy Birthday.
Fantastic video!!! Great to see you both and with classic perfumes even better. For me Paco Rabanne, Calvin and Polo green were the best, I think is a pity that they're so watered down now, different times. thank you!!!
So glad you mentioned Pierre Cardin . I wore that when I was in the 8th grade along with Jovan musk , Drakkar, and i think the girls wore Gloria Vanderbuilt
Thank you both very much. My two favorite fragrance historians. We should get college credit for watching this video. PLEASE continue this. So glad to see Pierre Cardin. I'm the same age as both if you (1972) and Pierre Cardin was my very first fragrance I owned and wore as a child. I loved it, I need to get another bottle.
Happy belated birthday Max!! Salivating at all those vintage bottles. 🤤 I'll always remember the 70s as the golden age for rock music. Queen, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, AC/DC, Kiss, Rush, Deep Purple, Aerosmith, The Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, the list goes ON. Polo and Azzaro Pour Homme both hugely influential for me as well. YSL's Pour Homme, No.19, Z-14, Eau d'Orange Verte even the original Ted Lapidus Pour Homme in the orange bottle. Only got to smell that one once, but man did it embody that bottle colour. Smooth and spicy orange leather. Really miss those scents.
You are talking about my favourite period for fragrances, together with the '80s. Fantastic fragrances, description and background. Unfortunately, most of today's versions are no longer worth buying. I will impatiently wait for the second part. Great job!!!
I really enjoyed this video especially at the end when Max described his love of Azzaro Pour Homme. My sentiments exactly!! I also found it mind blowing that Max compares Azzaro Pour Homme and Polo Green the way he does. I also feel the same way. I love both of these fragrances and many others from the 70s and 80s!
This series is cool!! This is a great idea!!! I love nostalgia with Fashion and fragrances I'm making every video my favorite. Thank you,Max!!!! I ❤ love it!! Omg!! My mother's signature scent was YSL Rive Gauche!! I was a little boy and I remember her wearing this beautiful fragrance in the 1970s. I remember whenever she wore this scent it would envelope the room. She also wore L'air Du Temps. Sentimenal memories. My dad had Pierre Cardin. I loved it then and I love it today. I have a bottle of it. Momma passed away in October of 2018.
Great and very interesting collab😄! Really looking forward to the forthcoming vids in the series! Disco was my bag in those days btw, but I was too young for frags 😊!
Bravo gentlemen, amazing review. Love how you balanced each other by doing both Feminine and masculine scents. Brought back so many memories!!!!!!!!! Loved it ❤️
Thanks for that walk down memory lane. My late Dad wore Pierre Cardin back in the day and I absolutely loved Polo Green. I loved how you described the Polo Green when you said it screamed "Status" because of the people wearing it back then. I'm curious...in today's time, 2021, what fragrance would you say screams "Status" when you smell it?
Happy birthday Max and I definitely enjoy the old school fragrances, my birthday was the 17th and I am 58 now. Enjoy your day sir. That Pierre Cardin in the initial smell is like Bois du Portugal even though the Cardin came out first.
Great series idea, Max! If there is one thing fragcomm is crying out for it’s more videos exploring the zeitgeist of fragrances (a break from all the bottle reviews). Looking forward to watching this series progress. By the way, loving the YSL Pour Homme - American Psycho pairing - what a movie! Big up!
Happy Birthday Max! One spritz of Pier Cardin is all it takes. It’s powerful. Even though it was launched in 1966 I remember my older brother wearing Aramis when he would go on dates in the 70s
Was just thinking of a few more. I realize they’re not high end, designer frags, but we all grew up with them. Our dads wore them. Sure, they may seem passé and bottom shelf at this point, but just for nostalgia sake, I’d love to see an episode featuring the scents of our youths. English Leather, Old Spice, Brut, British Sterling, etc. 😁
Some classics stand the test of time. Also sometimes sometimes it nice to get of the current beaten path and go back to older classics like Bach or The Beatles in music.
Oh, I wish quantum physics invented the time travel machine just to be able to smell these beauties in those days. Opium and Rive gauche are absolute favorites ! Like n°19 and the greener Silences Jacomo but only layered with Aqua di Parma's Iris sublime to smooth it a bit. Glad to have discovered your channel thanks to Persolaise.
Hello Max, how are you? Happy birthday 🎈🎉🎉🎈 hope you have a great! This is a great video and Thank you! I was a teenager in the 70s to me the Fragrances very manly lots of earthy musk Fragrances. Stay safe brother!
Maybe I’m jumping the gun because I’m typing this comment while watching this vid, but I’m surprised more attention isn’t paid to Aramis. It’s one of the ones I remember taking the world by storm. Everyone who’s anyone wore this.
great pairing between you both. liked how each went in a different direction but with genuine appreciation for the others views. you should def do more together,
Geoffrey Beene-Grey Flannel was prominent. Pucci Zadig or Original Lagerfeld Chloe for Women both quite lush and impossible post IFRA. So hard to reconcile with cinema though. Maybe Two leads in Funny Lady O.S. & B.S. So enjoyed the thinking around this topic.
Just watching after the mention of it on the live you both did most recently. Again, the outfit coordination is outstanding haha. Are you two starting a boyband? May I suggest "frags n roses" 😉😂 Great work you two. Always a pleasure to watch. 👍🏼
Happy Birthday MAX It was really nice episode, looking forward for the other decades Can you tell us the reasons of rising in number of perfume per year in comparison with that Era, and is it reasonable to find thousands of perfume a year
Hello Osama, thank you for the birthday wish and support. Sure, the increasing number of releases has to do with the immediate need for ''NEW'' things which came with the explosion of social media...
I totally agree with you, eventhough the impact of Globalization has played a great role in spreading luxurious like lifestyle among many people, those factors made perfume industry goes like crazy
Why are designers companies going more and more in private lines toward niche perfume, is it a new strategy in marketing or there is a really demand on private collection
Great video. Might I suggest you getting some better lights? The computer screen(?) light is not very flattering. Especially when compared to @Persolaise there.
I know Michael, too bad I could only pick 5! This is really tough, had I picked 10 I would have included Halston Z14, Geofrey Beene Grey Flannel, Caron Yatagan among others...
Hey Amato, I love it - I have a couple backup bottles myself. If you like incensy, amber-spicy scents - this is as good as they come! Let me know how you like it once you get it!
Hi , please I have a question ... does shaking fragrance , or different temperatures affecting its smell and performance ?? Coz I tend to take my bottle with me to anywhere if I will be outdoors for more than 5 hours .. like work for example.. I purchased a bottle last week, and after taking it daily with " I walk a lot ... so , so much shaking on the road " and I start to feel the fragrance smells different than when just purchased it , I feel it becomes more " sweaty or something " , I was able to feel it a bit sharp, and if there is spices at the opening, now this is not the case , what makes me sad ..
I think I would have liked Polo except that in the late 70’s and early 80’s just about every guy I ran into who wore this was an over sprayer. Get trapped for 20 floors in an elevator with a hairy guy with over sprayed Polo and it will put you off it for life. Too bad.

Persolaise rocks! His taste in shirts is also extraordinary
Ha! Thank you very much.
Two of my fragrance worlds colliding....Forti and Persolaise! YES!
😊
What an excellent topic! Thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you.
The mid 1990s saw a brief nostalgic resurgence of 70's style and music: think bell bottoms, afros and movies that mimicked those from the 1970's.
Fantastic video!!! Great to see you both and with classic perfumes even better. For me Paco Rabanne, Calvin and Polo green were the best, I think is a pity that they're so watered down now, different times. thank you!!!
Hey Carlos, you're right such a shame they changed so much!

Brilliant, thank you. Hermes Equipage (1970) for men and Revlon Charlie (1973) for women would be my choices from this decade.

Completely agree Carl! 👌
I was given Pierre Cardin Pour Monsier as a gift when I was 9 years old. Smells great.
Pierre Cardin, Polo Green and Royal Copenhagen were my go to colognes in the 70's as a teenager. 😏
👏
Pierre Cardin was my favorite. My Uncle Darrel got me hip to this. I use to steal sprays before I owned it. Probably one of my first purchase.

Almost a crime to leave out Halston. Z-14 was a panty dropper extraordinaire. Still keep a bottle today. Side note, Varvatos Oud has a similar vibe.

You guys both forgot that the punk era started in the mid-1970s. It was my scene in the late '70s.
If there’s a fragrance that I hate it is that YSL pour homme 😂 , I had to give away my bottle to my dad
Some excellent picks but clearly YSL Pour Homme is a citrus chypre not a woody spicy with some fougère tendencies.
