I graduated from UCSB 21 years ago today! I have been living and teaching at a university in Dubai, UAE since September 2014. I show this video to my students sometimes and they all say the same thing: "Sir, why did you leave there to come here?" :D

@@rollydiaz4123 True, there is no income tax in UAE and a US citizen can earn slightly more than $100,000 a year abroad that is not taxable in the US so long as you are not physically in the US for more than 30 days in any 12 month period. However, there are many more tradeoffs and indirect costs that make living and working in UAE less desirable or at the very least more challenging.

Stunning location! I do wish the architecture measured up, but the UCs and Cal States had to throw a lot concrete boxes up in the 70's and 80's. Imagine it with Occidental or Scripps college buildings!
My son is considering UCSB for his PhD, along with Northwestern and Penn State (offer in hand). Given that all three schools are in the top ten in his specialty, and he needs to make the decision in winter, it will be tough not to choose Isla Vista over the freezing wind of Lake Michigan or mountainous Happy Valley with its five months of cold and snow.
I’m so excited to apply here next year!

Yes, most of UC Santa Barbara is in a controlled air space due to proximity to airport. This video was made with a licensed pilot and granted authorization under strict FAA guidelines. Thanks for your comment! We are planning another "soaring" video soon!

My step son got a offer to play basket ball here. He graduates this class of 2024 in high-school hes a great boy and and outstanding point guard in basketball. So i camr here to get some confirmation that this can be the school for him. What do you guys think? Will this school be great for him as far as education and sports?
