I knew this man (I am so grateful to say) and he was one of the most humble, sweet, unassuming people I've ever known. At the same time, there wasn't a phony bone in his body...no false modesty. RIP my dear friend.
The best voice ever
Wow...how great is this?????...thanx...Mel is a legend...
Legend as a Dick Head. Read his Judy Garland bashing book pub.1970 He should have named it "I love Mel"
What an articulate fellow
Strange she didn't ask him about his appearances on Night Court which was a major factor driving the resurgence of his career in the late 1980s/early 1990s.
Thanx Lilly...gr8 interview
Impressive on point speaker
Sinatra and TORME CROSBY next
Great interview. But why such audio distortion? Can you release this in a clearer recording? thanks.
This digital copy of a degraded VHS tape is the best I could do.
I rate my male singers as Bing Crosby, then Frank Sinatra and Mel Torme. The rest fall behind those three.
Dreadful interviewer, Lilyan Chauvin. Mel is wonderful and professional.
RIP Mel Torme. Not so much for Chauvin.
You became an Author 'cause your career took a nose dive and you knew you could make $ off of the Judy Garland name/interest Plus it would help get your name out there on the lips of the public again.
Your a Judy fan not realizing Mel has more talent that Judy could ever imagine to have
I never saw Judy Garland in person but like most people love the Wizard of Oz and of course her movies. I have seen Mel Torme in concert many times and he was nothing short of professional and always in great voice. I have to mention three other singers, Ella, Sarah Vaughn and Cleo Laine. All of these singers were musician s of the highest caliber. Of course none of these singers had the pathos of Lady Day so I would also include Judy Garland wirh Billie Holiday, great singers but both had personal lives which bled into one another.
You didn't want to go on Judy's show and then you're fired and then you write a book to make money soiling Judy's name.
