Thats an awful pile of work for an engine thats just suppose to last the summer. Thanks for the video, its really interesting. I guess the seat cutting really shows the importance of having proper guides in the head.
I was wondering if you have ever used time-serts instead of heli-coils for thread restoration? we use them on our drag race motors, transmissions etc... and have had zero problems.
yes. its just a matter of what works for your application. a helicoil is a one size bigger thread size and time-serts are two sizes bigger. nut-serts are three sizes bigger. if you have the room you can use the bigger sizes for more strength if it is needed for your applications. most of the time helicoils are for repair while the other two are for manufacturing. that is, the parts were designed for the bigger inserts. tatro
