Top tips for choosing flower colours for weddings and events

  • Join flower farmer and florist Georgie Newbery of Common Farm Flowers in Somerset, south west England (zone 8) as she cuts contrasting flower schemes for a party and for a wedding. For both events the clients have let Georgie choose the colours. Part of her brand is that customers know that if they leave Georgie to choose the best in the garden on the day they will have a more interesting mix than if they are more prescriptive. The party needs to be cheerful and not too 'wedding.' The colours and style for the wedding have been left up to her by the client so Georgie has a free hand in what she cuts: the look must have a wedding feel, but also, depth of colour, variety, rich texture. See how she finds a connection between the flowers, sometimes the rich depth in a leaf will tone with the under colour of a flower which will tone with a much paler rose for example. Watch all the way through to see the bride's bouquet Georgie creates at the end. And enjoy!

The arrangement made me think of a old Dutch painting. Love it. Have looked at flowers and arrangements differently since following you. I am a quilter so always love discussion on color ❤

Loved the bouquet. Yes I agree with you about the matchy matchy. To me a brides bouquet should have color and in different hues and tones. Having those pretty pinks and creamy whites look stunning when you add in some dark. I am a person who loves color. I have a hard time with people who want to live in all White rooms in their homes. Not me ....every room is a different color 😊. God bless Georgie

That was really fun learning about depth of color and giving dimension to a design. I will practice so my craft does not appear flat. Wonderful lesson. Thank you

As an Aussie, I must admit you do a pretty bonzer Aussie accent! Perhaps it's because our Aussie accent is refreshingly down-to-earth - and so are you, Georgie!

Photogenic flowers! The bridal bouquet was especially beautiful, and you are right about the depth provided by the dark flowers and foliage with the paler ones. All pale tones in the bouquet would not look right paired with a white or cream colored bridal dress.

Absolutely gorgeous. And your roses! I’m guessing no Japanese beetles in England. They decimate my roses. Just love your artistry…truly. 😊

Lovely lovely wedding bouquet 🤩Love the colors. Is this Physocarpus “Amber Jubilee” or “Little Devil”? And what about the blue Phlox on the bottom left ? Do you know what variety it is ? Thank you for your inspiring and soothing videos. What a treat to walk in your wonderful garden and pick flowers with you. I particulary enjoy your concern about wildlife Bravo 🙏Marie
