    Shepherds purse is the heart shaped flower weed :)

    The wild filler greens that are shaped like little green hearts are called Shepherds Purse. I like using that in arrangements too and I have a ton of it.

    My Silver Dollar eucalyptus survived a mild zone 6 winter in NJ in 2019; survived a normal 2020 cold winter; and is now about 30 feet tall with tree trunks almost 3 inches in diameter. I have trees in my veg garden! Unplanned trees because it usually dies every winter. I won’t cut it down, but if it dies, so be it. No seed pods yet.

    Thank you for talking about all these flowers. Married over 49 years, I'm not planning a wedding, but I do want a cutting garden so I can make floral designs. Fillers are hard to find at garden centers because most customers only want to buy the stars.

    • @katecallahan8348
      @katecallahan8348 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I hear you, Kathryn! The only filler I buy as starts is apple mint. Everything else I do from seed. I had really good luck winter sowing bupleurum in zone 5b this year.

      @@katecallahan8348 This year I am planting seeds too and buying wire cloches to protect my hardy annual seedlings from squirrels who dig them up if they can. There are only fat squirrels in my 8b neighborhood. They can leave delicate plants alone.

    I'm a new flower farmer (started late this past season) and have 5 florists that buy from me. I loved this video and it was nice to realize my research has paid off and that I am growing almost all the flowers you talked about!! I have 3 low tunnels with ranunculus and anenomes overwintering right now - not the easiest in upstate SC since the temps are typically 50s/40s but every now and then it gets up into the upper 60s - UGH!!! I have never wanted cold weather so much, hahaha!!

    "Ami" (masculine) or "Amie" (feminine), both pronounced the same as you do "Ammi", mean "Friend" in French. So yes, friendly/friendship love. There's something to be said about its delicate yet spectacular presence in bouquets. I love it. This was such a great, substantially informative video. Thank you. I ordered few flats of Lavender 'Phenomenal' that are coming this spring. If you are so inclined, a video about your signature flower would be fantastic. I'm Canadian zone 6b (USDA zone 5b), so almost same conditions as yours, except for sunlight hours and snow cover (we're blessed with a very thick, protective snow cover most years). I'm grateful for all the information.

    Hey there, thanks for sharing you guys are a force in the flower farming world. Question do you treat your ranunculus just like tulips and throw out the blubs or do you save them for the next year? Thanks again for the videos they keep getting better have a lot of helpful tips!!

    Love you guys, you re info is always very interesting. But i wonder, can you suggest any cut flower species that do well in wet and cool summers? Our climite is terrible, its 4a with cold dry winters and cool wet summers, there isnt a lot of things that do well...

    • @PepperHarrow
      @PepperHarrow  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes! Sweet peas, ranunculus, peonies and anemone. To stave off wet, consider growing them under cover (low tunnel or small greenhouse). Check out Ardelia Farm in VT on IG or other flower farmers in your area for more ideas. There are several flowers that like cool growing conditions

    Do you have any advice for a new farmer wanting to niche in one flower? More specifically, I’d like to grow roses. Would this be a wise path or do you suggest diversifying into other annuals and perennials?

    • @PepperHarrow
      @PepperHarrow  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You'll want to analyze the market around you and look for the gaps that you can fill. If you can fill a need for roses. in your area then that would be a good choice but it really depends on your market.

    • @PepperHarrow

      Ants aren’t something we have an issue with. Only on peonies and they’re integral to peonies opening. We just shake them off when harvesting.
