Aircalin SB601 : Flying from Papeete to Nouméa

It was time to explore new territories. So, I had to include New Caledonia and what better way to travel there than aboard Aircalin on their 3 years old Airbus A330-900, F-ONEO. This aircraft is part of the A330neo series.
After being dropped off by our hosts, we checked in at Fa'a'ā International Airport for our flight. There was quite a long line but we eventually made it through. Security screening wasn't too cumbersome and the departures hall was what I'd expected. On the floor above, you are able to gaze out at the apron and I got a very nice look at the aircraft in its beautiful livery. Stunning, isn't it? Once boarding commenced at Gate 61, we walked out onto the apron and up some stairs. I settled in Seat 30H (a weird letter designated for a window seat) and admired the interior, which was really sleek for an A330. It felt like I was on an A350! Soon after, the plane started up, pushed back and taxiied to the runway. We then took off towards Nouméa and lunch was served some time after. Self-service refreshments were available at the back of the aircraft. The next couple of hours went by pretty smoothly as I had a good look at the IFE. Eventually, we neared our destination and began our approach. We landed into Nouméa and taxied towards Gate A2. I was quite impressed with Aircalin's service which made the flight very comfortable. This experience solidified the A330-900 as my favourite variant of the A330 series and I hope more airlines consider this option as an alternative to the A350 series. Bags could be collected at Carousel 2. Once outside, there were no taxis whatsoever so we were to catch a bus which took us to our hotel. I had a great time and I hope that Aircalin will continue to operate and compete against Fiji Airways and Air Tahiti Nui as they do offer a pretty solid service.
