Great video as usual! M7 sounds warmer to me and it's better in the mix. Especially the M7 LB. When it comes to reliability probably a K 47 is a better choice.
Great video. I too was expecting the difference to be much larger. Any of these would work well and I think you could swap them all during mixing and no one would realize you changed the mic.
wow what a nice comparsion! my favourite is the normal m7. I think this one has the most detail and the voice feels closer. Is this one the reskinned version?
Wow, 3 47s in one place! All of them could work in a mix! Those M7s are really close, I wonder if the difference is more between the transformers or the capsules themselves. The LB is missing a little low end under 100hz compared to the M7, I also feel like the presence peak is a bit lower on the LB, between 3,5 and 4k giving it a tiny bit more upper mid bite whereas the M7 seems to have a bit more very high end extension, but still it's really close, you flip the phase and you can hear how close they are. The K47, as expected is a little more agressive in the mids with that characteristic mid bump between 2,5 and 4k and less info on the top end, giving it a bit more of a filtered sound. All 3 sound great, if I had to pick one I would probably go with the M7 B08 here as I feel like I could easily eq it to sound like the others whereas the opposite would be a bit more complicated but I'm just nitpicking!
Yeah that was a fun day! Totally agree. I wouldn't have thought about those Nuance differences if I only recorded with one of those u47s. But it's always cool to be able to do a comparison so you can hear the actual difference. I had never heard an M7 original before this comparison so it was a great experience. And I'm glad that they all sounded good! Cheers!
Yes, the K47 had a bit more mid / high-mid edge to me which I like very much. There is not so much of a difference as we have seen in the 414 comparison for sure. The u47 wool-like sound character is there in each of them :)
Exactly. I would also chose the K47 since it's a more reliable design. Atleast when it comes to vintage capsules. It's nice to be able to try these things out then have to rely on hearsay haha! Thanks for watching ✌️
I've done a comparison between a couple of vintage mics Vs the ML1. The videos are up on YT. The ML1 sounded great especially with the Blackbird expansion. Haven't used the Townsend mic though.
I preferred the k47. M7 sounded more harsh and M7 bigger badge sounded honkier. Not much in it though. Are the circuits and componnts exact match between mics?
@@Christian_svedin I know on some km84 the fet source cap will be 1.5uf and others 4.7uf. In u87 the negative feedback circuit will be 220pf and others 820pf. So it's hard to say if apples are apples for sure, you know?

M7 just put the voice in the right space in the mix. K7 sounded thind and "cheap". Thanks for another great vid.. Merry Xmas..

Great test Christian! The difference is small. But for my ears, the K47 capsule has a slightly clearer sound. I prefer K47 capsules.

The M7 sounds great in the mix, although the K47 and M7 LB sound better solo. Pretty similar. They all sound great.

Cool! No, as said in the video the large badge has a different transformer, first revision. All has VF14 though.
