    Roboco has elegantly solved this problem.
    Despite being a junior only to Sora herself, her pon-energy still gives her little sister vibes even compared to the newest juniors

      Yep, and I think that's pretty much what's happening with Sora in the last few years too. Not to the same extent as Roboco, of course. But with her getting really into minecraft and her character gradually leaning more into aka-chan, so many members have dropped the "senpai" and just called her "Sora-chan"
      Watching that as it happens was great

    Great clip, this is always a very interesting dynamic within HL. Sora is literally the reason anyone else has a job there so the opinion of her from everyone else's perspective has to be incredibly heavy with respect. And she's an OG on top of it which only adds on further. If HL had started in 2020 or so and she was part of a gen and merely the last left and there'd been many vtubers in general before her it'd be one thing but that's not the case. But it's easy to understand that such a thing is burdensome to Sora. She never sat out to be a daisenpai and help take vtubing to another level, she didn't ask for such things and now the weight of daisenpai is forever on her shoulders. Gift and a curse, I suppose.

    • @junsengjs
      @junsengjs 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +38

      In Sora's case she isn't just the first member of Hololive, she is also a vtuber who debuted in an era of vtubing that is completely different from now. Streaming being the norm wasn't a thing until later. A lot of the big names from that era have left and only a handful of them are left, Sora being one of them.

      @@HadirUntukAndawell, that's natural but when it comes to their workplace, they would disagree. After all, Sora and A-chan were the ones who took the plunge in that unknown stuff and took risks to somehow make it work. Yes, virtual idols do exist but they are not as big as they are now. Imagine spending time and resources on something you dreamt of while not knowing if it will be worth it or not. The concept of "virtual idols" at that time is almost nonexistent. Gen 0 and Gen 1 took the beating and carried the company while it was still in its infancy. Yes, other talents are entertaining but would they really risk their stable careers for such an unknown field? Not really. Most of them already have a good fan base in their PLs before joining Holo. The reason they respect Sora that much is because she started it just because of passion and nothing else. She wanted to do it knowing it might fail. The same could be said for the older gens. Without them, Holo might not even exist. So while there are more entertaining members which let us just agree to disagree, no one can replace Sora and A-chan in the member's eyes.

      @@HadirUntukAnda her position cannot just be replaced being the first in the company, one of the first in vtubing in general and the one along with A-chan to go the route of virtual idol when cover just wanted to promote tech stuff, there's a reason why other members joke that if you do something she doesn't like you could be as good as fired, as for numbers, that's another subject, but talking about brand and marketing I'm not sure

      That is not true. Her position cannot be replaced. She and A-Chan came to a tech company with the idea of the idol dream.
      Her with the idea and A-Chan with the support. You need both of those to work.
      While it is true that Hololive has bigger talents, none of them had such a wild dream with a friend that is supportive and is willing to work for this dream.

    I know she doesn’t mean it like that, but it’s really cool every time Sora mentions or reminds us that she was THE Hololive. When you think of Hololive right now, it’s a giant corporation with almost a hundred active vtubers, but Sora was basically 1 out of 3 founding pillars of Hololive beside A-chan and Yagoo, and probably some more people behind the scenes, it’s kinda insane

    Sora is basically the living legend in Holo, which probably the reason why everyone treats her in a highly regarded manner & keep a 'safe' distance, but in a way ended up making Sora felt lonely (she often said it herself back then, how she want to get closer to everyone etc.)
    She then start stalking others (in MC), observing her kouhais IRL (in studio & changing room), and accepted the warm affection from Iofi (which i assume was from viewers & management's idea to solve the issue), and others then start open up to her, somewhat bittersweet journey really..😌
    *Aki was among the few who already close to Sora from beginning btw

    • @tanvoltz4623
      @tanvoltz4623 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +12

      It’s not just in Holo though, In this clip Sora specifically mentions Mito (AKA the DAISENPAI of Nijisanji) also view Sora as a senpai and it took Sora a lot of effort to get her to be more casual. (And even then if you look at the tweet Mito made for Sora’s 5th anniversary, Mito still has a mountain of respect for Sora and still refer to Sora and Sora-san)
      Sora unfortunately is the OG of OGs, she literally debut before most of the 4 heavenly kings. So everyone is her Kouhai in the industry. To complicate things further the fact that she has been around for 7 years now just means most of the people who are active while Sora debut have naturally stopped to go do other things instead.
      So the mountain of difference just keeps getting bigger and bigger.

    They're peas in a pod in many ways, including struggles, though Sora's was more escaping the assumptions placed on her.
    Both are prone to muki thinking (Sora decided to punch a warden to death no matter how many times she died)
    From my understanding, it was G3 that started the heavy sempai-ing, though management blocked contact in the early days between G1 and Sora
    Apple Soda is generally a down to earth collab duo

    Some people think that the senpai/kouhai culture is bullshit, or that the treatment of Sora is overrated, but that's not even remotely a real problem here, the senpai/kouhai culture can be incredibly toxic in some work environments, Hololive is doing great in comparison, I sympathize with Sora too, but this involves feelings that are simply natural, no holomem will be able to ignore what she represents and did indirectly for all of them, see that none of them feel intimidated by fear, but by admiration, like Aki herself, and she's only a generation younger, they are not obliged by contract to act like this with their senpais, this is just another level of the honorifics issue that Sora talked about, with time and familiarity outside the workplace, you pass the barrier. Sora just didn't have the time until a few years ago, and that added to her being the pioneer of the company, and now the barrier is particularly strong for her.

      At the HoloMC, mostly Sora was regarded like a Goddess as much as she frustrates her a bit. Even her fans and other girl's fans see her as someone so untouchable. Sora immediately knew the feeling of loneliness at the top of being the very first daisenpai of Hololive and other higher daisenpai like Aki felt that too since the new gens and new fans respect them way too much at the past, until some talents starts including them into the fun.

    From an American standpoint, the whole kouhai-senpai thing just seems so insanely wild. It's not age thing, it's not a skills or experience issue, it's not a position within the company like worker, supervisor, boss, just "I was here first so I'm the senpai." Like legitimately, "I got my foot in the door here first in THIS company, so I'm somehow the superior." Doesn't matter if someone has 50 years in the industry before joining, if they're the newest hire, they're the kouhai.

      Senpai is not superior position. It's similar concept to respecting elders, but it someone there before you instead. It's like how people before you contribute into shaping the place you're currently in is one of the simple reason. Senpai doesn't mean more skill/superior.

    Really interesting to hear, as somebody slowly getting a grip over time on how these things work. I think the moment they had overseas people in a position of senpai, it has to be immediately diluting it. I still feel like it's weird for somebody from overseas to be senpai, but even aside from that, just not having or being (as) familiar with that sort of thing, of course the dynamics would be different, especially when I keep hearing things like "even 1 day ahead counts as senpai". In that situation, many of them couldn't uphold this kind of structure even if they tried. I wonder what Japanese people think about somebody who doesn't understand the concept on the same level being called "senpai".

      " I still feel like it's weird for somebody from overseas to be senpai" Not really. Its quite an easy to grasp concept for most asians. Like, of course you would learn from JP senpai, and other EN ones. But also people who are newer too. Sometimes some people are just good in certain areas, even more than senpai.
