Roboco has elegantly solved this problem. Despite being a junior only to Sora herself, her pon-energy still gives her little sister vibes even compared to the newest juniors
Yep, and I think that's pretty much what's happening with Sora in the last few years too. Not to the same extent as Roboco, of course. But with her getting really into minecraft and her character gradually leaning more into aka-chan, so many members have dropped the "senpai" and just called her "Sora-chan" Watching that as it happens was great

Great clip, this is always a very interesting dynamic within HL. Sora is literally the reason anyone else has a job there so the opinion of her from everyone else's perspective has to be incredibly heavy with respect. And she's an OG on top of it which only adds on further. If HL had started in 2020 or so and she was part of a gen and merely the last left and there'd been many vtubers in general before her it'd be one thing but that's not the case. But it's easy to understand that such a thing is burdensome to Sora. She never sat out to be a daisenpai and help take vtubing to another level, she didn't ask for such things and now the weight of daisenpai is forever on her shoulders. Gift and a curse, I suppose.
In Sora's case she isn't just the first member of Hololive, she is also a vtuber who debuted in an era of vtubing that is completely different from now. Streaming being the norm wasn't a thing until later. A lot of the big names from that era have left and only a handful of them are left, Sora being one of them.
But she isnt the one who make holo get bigger tho. Her position can be replace with anyone more interesting. Holo get bigger bcs of talent that more interesting like aqua, miko, pekora, marine, subaru, korone, holomyth. She just happen to kickstart it

I know she doesn’t mean it like that, but it’s really cool every time Sora mentions or reminds us that she was THE Hololive. Sora is basically the living legend in Holo, which probably the reason why everyone treats her in a highly regarded manner & keep a 'safe' distance, but in a way ended up making Sora felt lonely (she often said it herself back then, how she want to get closer to everyone etc.) She then start stalking others (in MC), observing her kouhais IRL (in studio & changing room), and accepted the warm affection from Iofi (which i assume was from viewers & management's idea to solve the issue), and others then start open up to her, somewhat bittersweet journey really..😌 *Aki was among the few who already close to Sora from beginning btw
It’s not just in Holo though, In this clip Sora specifically mentions Mito (AKA the DAISENPAI of Nijisanji) also view Sora as a senpai and it took Sora a lot of effort to get her to be more casual. (And even then if you look at the tweet Mito made for Sora’s 5th anniversary, Mito still has a mountain of respect for Sora and still refer to Sora and Sora-san) Sora unfortunately is the OG of OGs, she literally debut before most of the 4 heavenly kings. So everyone is her Kouhai in the industry. To complicate things further the fact that she has been around for 7 years now just means most of the people who are active while Sora debut have naturally stopped to go do other things instead. So the mountain of difference just keeps getting bigger and bigger.
I think the issue of senpai-kouhai barrier can be resolved just by hanging out more outside of the work environment. Get to know your senior outside the junior lens.
In my country if you got called by your nickname that's a friend, if by name that's a colleague, if by your surname if not your teacher that would be your girlfriend/boyfriend, and if by your whole name that would be your angry wife.

Some people think that the senpai/kouhai culture is bullshit, or that the treatment of Sora is overrated, but that's not even remotely a real problem here, the senpai/kouhai culture can be incredibly toxic in some work environments, Hololive is doing great in comparison, I sympathize with Sora too, but this involves feelings that are simply natural, no holomem will be able to ignore what she represents and did indirectly for all of them, see that none of them feel intimidated by fear, but by admiration, like Aki herself, and she's only a generation younger, they are not obliged by contract to act like this with their senpais, this is just another level of the honorifics issue that Sora talked about, with time and familiarity outside the workplace, you pass the barrier. Sora just didn't have the time until a few years ago, and that added to her being the pioneer of the company, and now the barrier is particularly strong for her.
I still remember in one of holominecraft event where Holomen punch each other, but it's look like no one of the girl dare to punch sora until someone come and punch her( i forget who do that)and i swar that i feel Sora very happy about that.
