I remember when I first listened to this song. I was at my best friend's house, in 2006, and I remember she was studying for her driving licence, while I was completely heartbroken. She had to go out for a few hours and I was left there by myself in front of her PC when I discovered this song. I listened to it for at least an hour and couldn't believe how amazing it was. She found me in tears when she came back. This was my first Porcupine Tree song and I will always cherish it dearly.
It is great song . When my dog died before 5 years ago this song has been played in the radio . I was with her when we took her to vet in last time. It was hard decition to let her go because she suffer before she died . She was very sick and old after years we took care of her . This song played in the perfect timing because some of the lyrics connected to what I feel to my dog . She was and still special to me very much even years after she passed away and that song touched in sensetive part in my soul. Every year in 22 of june since then I play this song for her to remember . So thank you porcupine tree that you wrote something that I can relate to him and have a lot of meaning to me .
I feel you, I don't know what I'm gonna do when *my* little boy one day won't be there anymore...almost 11 years and counting. Only for the knowledge that I gave him a good life beginning to end.
I won't shiver in the cold I won't let the shadows take their toll I won't cover my head in the dark And I won't forget you when we part Collapse the Light Into Earth I won't heal given time I won't try to change your mind I won't feel better in the cold light of the day But I wouldn't stop you if you wanted to stay Collapse the Light Into Earth
"This is my 9/11 song. It’s not literal, as it’s a break up song really, but there’s something about it that will always be imbued with the sadness and grief of that tragedy for me. It was written in the days after."- Steven Wilson
We live this life hoping and trying to find something that is real and tangible. Music sometimes forms itself into handholds. Something abstract yet so real. It lifts us up. It carries us away momentarily to a place where the air is full of hope and truth.
+Todd Graves Pretentious Guy sez: "Only to send us plummeting to earth's hard, grim reality when it's over---because, like Icarus, we have flown too close to the sun, fooled into thinking we have communed with angels only to have prostituted ourselves instead to the wretched and smarmy devils of our most foolish foolishness."
Back in 2014 when I dropped out from highschool, I was listening this album on repeat (specially this song) and it always made me feel like it's all gonna be okay.
I first listened to this song when I got my dog, Nera, in my early twenties. She passed on 14.2.2022, at 12 years and 3 months of age. I always knew I would lose her to time, but oh my God we had a good run together. She was so loved.
This makes me feel like the waves of the earth could blanket me with warm arms and comfort as it takes me away from the light. slowly drifting down into nothing.
A beautiful song. Wonderful. And I like the fact they kept ambient, without drums or guitars (until the distorted bit at the end) . It is like a wonderful orgasm of harmony vocals and strings. Quite simply orgasmic
It's the simplicity of the arrangement, combined with great lyrics, great vocal performance by Steven Wilson and an emotional string section. It doesn't have to be complicated to be a great song.

Always felt the lyrics is about a man on death row experiencing the duality within himself. He understands what he did is wrong, but the evil inside of him is a great temptation he can never let go of and views his death to be for the best.

what happened when she found you in the house? just curious
and is it her favorite porcupine tree song too?

@@blackswordsman2988 Neah, we have very different music tastes. It was more of a 'oh for fuck's sake, you're crying again?' situation, lol.
How beautiful is this song? And they play it as an encore on the current tour. Bliss...

My dog has fall to sleep only yesterday. I hadn't listened to it for years, but my soul's memory brought me here.
Dogs are angels on Earth, I'm sorry for your loss. I lost my beautiful Nera on 14.2.2022, she was 12 years and 3 months old.
I have a similar story with my cat Sigma.... I both hate and love this song

I have goose bumps on my goose bumps! Simply a heavenly song!

dhwani chugh Gosh, do you REALLY think so? Pretty silly guy if you ask me. And to think he's a novelist and poet...
No. That was a sarcastic comment.

This album is a piece of musical artistry, grace, and skill. Highly recommend.

Depression brought me here...
Me too
Same, hope y'all are doing okay

My favorite song from my favorite band. And given I revolve my life around music that’s saying something.
One of my favourite things ever. Stunning through and through
That Piano at the end is Haunting. I have just played this about 5 times back to back.
If this song isn't played at my funeral I'm not dying
count me in as well!
Beautiful, got to hear it live last night!
Just lost a fellow dialysis patient to cancer. I will miss him greatly. This is my therapy.
This song is like a end of the world like Evangelion for me 😞
Whatever or whoever it was that hurt you, it's okay. Things will get better. Without darkness, how are we to know what the light looks like?
I dont think its about a person being hurt by another. It's about someone fighting depression
@@scottiemccarthy896 true , it's not always about if someone left you or me
Funny how some people, with only four chords and a minimal technique, can write an absolute masterpiece. I wish I just could...
+Andrea Simonetto In the simplicity is the success, Steven Wilson have said this many times.
Sometimes less is more.
Yeah but not with what Porcupine Tree is talking about. Take almost any shitty pop music nowadays and there you go. It makes money but it sucks.
It's the simplicity of the arrangement, combined with great lyrics, great vocal performance by Steven Wilson and an emotional string section. It doesn't have to be complicated to be a great song.
manco82 This is easily Stevens' best vocal performance.
Fast becoming my favourite porcupine tree song
tough choice, but i agree
Not planning to die for another 143 years, but I want this song played at my funeral

Thom Yorke would be proud of this composition.
Also heart attack in a layby and melloron stretch especially the first half of the song.
The apocalypse we're experiencing right now brought me here.
Beautiful.
This song is otherworldly

Brilliant!
Nobody can sing like this for the wretched winter...
Beautiful
this part always make me feel shivers
I've booked this one for my funeral.
Amazing!!
Pureee goosebumps
amazing song
So touching and magical...
luv this song
This is the saddest song I know.
Do you even Steven Wilson bro?
I don't understand the question? Do I Steven Wilson?
Anyhow. This being the saddest song I know is hardly a BAD thing....
look up drive home-steven wilson
Or heart attack in a lay by, on this very album!!
this is sadder than drive home
Brilliant
Tonight there's a full moon, and I like to listen to that song
crep que es una de las mejores canciones que he escuchado
Oh. My 😢❤️
is it just a song or a hug?
Both and soooooooo much more
HAUNTING
Still so good
This is the song that I use to turn people on to Porcupine Tree, after other songs have not done the trick.
I use Shesmovedon for that trick. Works every time. This is one helluva song too though, of course
I tried with "what happens now" because it's the first I listenned and by far my favorite. Maybe it was a little bit ambitious
My top 3 bands to listen to at night
1.porcupine tree
2.blackfield
3.passenger
Shine On
Here's to 15 years of a relationship that is about to end.
Goddamn...this song reminds me of how I fucked up what should have been the love of my life. Goddamn. This song strikes home.😞

My favourite song of all time. We are only 123.808 at the moment. We are so elitist.
I am here from 'Till the End ' 😚
Beatles style ❤️
I love this song and when it’s cold I’d like to die by moby
Sublime!
For Lettie Hempstock.
esta cancion me hace pensar en muerte
looks like the album cover is a Spock mind meld
2015 di quello potente
I'll never like a band as much as i like PT. Too unfortunate they don't play anymore.
i guess you were wrong about that :D
And they are playing this live as well.
I listen to this when I inappropriately think about my dog
wtf
Um
This is the same function as classical music
orrible!
I like this song but I've always found it to be kind of simple and boring in a way. Not the best of Porcupine Tree.
