This is the best HST method when you need large numbers of the same colours. I needed 96 for a Jacob's ladder quilt.

I’m always in awe of-and very appreciative of-quilters who take the time and effort to make videos to share with other quilters. It’s a true gift.
My question for you is: how many of the triangles have bias edges on the outsides? You mentioned starching the fabrics, which would certainly help stabilize the bias edges. When you use this method do you find using HST blocks with bias outer edges affects your accuracy? I’ve heard/read different opinions on this, which is why I’m asking.
    Thanks again for sharing!

They are not in front of me at the moment, but I’m thinking the bias edge is always sewn in. Either way, the way to handle it is by being very gentle with those biased edges during all stages of the project. It is claimed that this is an instance where heavy starching is merited. I don’t feel it’s necessary, but by all means, do it if it makes you feel safer.

What if you needed a smaller or bigger half square triangle? I assume you would start with a bigger or smaller square but how would you figure out what size you would need/

Very good question! Quilt math! I do know that you can get 32 2” HSTs from a 10x10 layer cake pair. That’s pretty small, but sometimes you need small ones. I may figure out a chart for this question. Thanks!
