Like the Twelve Days of Christmas, in this video I am sharing the Twelve Months of Mystery Tackle Box! I have carefully preserved all of my Elite Mystery Tackle Boxes this year so that I can now share with you the Very BEST and WORST baits in every MTB. Of course, this is really just an opinion video. I have no anecdotal data to prove what is good or bad. I am just a guy that loves fishing tackle, baits and lures. I know what I like and I know what I don't like. Your opinion may be very different from mine and that's okay. This video does prove to me though, that I have outgrown Mystery Tackle Box. Nothing bad really happened, I just fell out of love week after week. Years ago, the subscription boxes were very fun and brought alot of mystery and excitement. They just don't do that anymore. I know what I will find in the box before they even mail it. It's boring, and as such, really not worth it to me anymore. I think as I go through each month, that becomes apparent. Love the videos, Mr Bass. But there's no real brief explanation on why they are good or bad. I get why you put some in the junk pile. But is there a background test of any of the baits being thrown? Or is it bias? I've thrown most of what you have shown and caught fish. Not to say I don't agree with some junk. But I feel like some work better in some lakes, while others work in other. With that being said. Let's hear the explanation as to why it's bad and why it's good. Still gonna support the channel either way. 👍
Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it. If I explained my feelings on each bait, the video would be 3 hours long. If you read the video description, I explain that this is my opinion. It doesn’t mean some of the baits I call junk won’t catch fish. Fish will bite a block of wood with a hook on it under the right conditions. Also, there are so many mass produced baits on the market now (many are made by the same factories for many different companies) it’s very hard to differentiate their quality or effectiveness. If I say this is a horrible bait it’s because I have fished it and know there is a flaw that really makes it bad. If I say it’s junk, I am usually referring to the fact that its a mass produced chinese made lure that really adds nothing of value for the consumer. It doesn’t mean you won’t ever catch a fish on it. When I say great or awesome, I have used it and had success with it. This is really my opinion, and I say often in the video “in my opinion, etc”. If you disagree or love a bait that I call junk, no big deal. I wanted to do this video for fun. It’s not really a deep analysis of the baits. You are a special person if you can sit through deep dive videos on lures. You and I would probably love that, but most of my audience won’t. Thanks again!
I read the description. And absolutely no disrespect. Was just wanting to learn, on some baits I have never fished, why they were bad. But I understand your position. Different baits work in different bodies of waters. Lake Ouachita is a beast, and those largemouth are always looking for something new. All in all, I still enjoyed the video.

I would love to find ways to recommend (dive deep) into baits for real nerds. Those videos are very time consuming and just don't get the views. Perhaps I will go back to a live show where I can focus on a specific bait or two each show. That would be fun. Thanks for the suggestion. It helps me think about how to improve the channel.

I got the monthly box subscription monkey off my back several years ago after being on the hook for maybe 3 years with several companies. I thought "WTF, I can afford it and maybe I'll find something worthwhile to try." What I found is that I'm now able to outfit a small mom n 'pop store out of my garage with lures that've never seen water. These boxes are the slot machines of the tackle business - you put your 40 bucks in and wait a month to see if you got anything exciting when the wheels stop spinning at the month's end. And you learn that there's a lot of disappointment in life. For me, the jackpot box was the Strike King Takeover Box, from the early days, of which I'm sure you well remember. Otherwise I'd call this year's offerings from MB as "... meh." You were actually more generous with your reviews than I would be. Great video, BTW. 😎

I totally agree. Out of the entire box content, maybe one or two baits are legit /good.
I even wrote a letter to the owners of CatchCo and expressed that there is no value in these monthly subscription.
Yet people that don’t know about real fishing still buy them.
I use the baits in MTB to give away for Christmas presents and BD presents I have literally never used anything from the box. Mostly because I keep the Googans for later.
I quit them a long long time ago before googan took over! It was the same lures over and over again! I saw some lures I liked and just bought them separately and that’s why I watch the unboxing videos! Great job Mr. Bass and keep up the great work!

Dang-I gave my kid the cyclobait and he absolutely DESTROYED one day--I bought some SPECIFICALLY for dirty water rivers off lake Champlain and did well….although took some tuning

I’ll be honest…I gave it to him as I thought-what a hunk of crap lol….
IMO Pickerel will literally eat anything, so I wouldn't use that to determine the quality of a lure. But, if you have largemouth crushing it, that's great. I have had no luck no that bait at all and have thrown it quite a bit. Thanks for the feedback.

For us, the Revolver out produced both the choppo and whopper plopper this past summer in northern MN. Three guys casting out of one boat, revolver in the ghost gill pattern got it done. Perch pattern whopper plopper was second, choppo came in last.

I think the whole point of a box like this is to get you to try new things. I try to give something new a toss from each box. That being said I did cancel my MTB because I got tired of getting the same things over and over. Monsterbass for me. 6th Sense also has nice stuff

I gotta respectfully disagree with you on the Headbanger stuff...at least the stuff I've used, anyway. I've had great luck with the stuff I've used and I really like the random "hunting" action the Rockerhead imparts. I have NOT used the Banger Ribs or the Spitfire, so I can't really say one way or the other with those.
I am seeing quite a few comments from viewers that I have it wrong with the Headbanger. I think the feedback is great and it gives me a reason to fish with those more to see what you guys like about them. I really appreciate the feedback (good and bad) because for me, it's just about the fun of fishing. Thanks again.
Curious i dont use googan squad what makes the googan squad blooper a bad bait? I want to try bloopers this year and just wondered.
I know a few people who love them, but compared to most poppers it's just an average bait at best. Doesn't mean you can't catch fish on it. If you like it and like Googan, go for it. I think sometimes it looks like I am saying that the worst bait in the box is the worst bait on the planet, and that is not really what I mean. I am trying to determine the best and worst bait in that box, so it all depends on the other baits in the box that are "competing" with each other. I really do not hate Googan product, I just prefer many other baits over Googan. That's all. I don't want to persuade you to never try the blooper. I have one buddy that really does love it.

What works in your state will not work in others. I see people saying this is the best one for ------ but I use it and nothing all day ⁉️ I've that about this allot. The western bubble blade work great where I like in black and purple pink.

I’ve got a MONSTERBASS and MTB subscription and doing my own personal comparisons. Mainly to try new baits wouldn’t typically buy but once I start getting an abundance of my “good” baits I’ll probably cancel both and buy just what I want to specifically test out

Really fun episode. I get a lot of crap for my “Googan hate” but look how often you picked them as the worst bait. They just mostly suck. The eat me frog is only popular because it says eat me. Typical Googan. All marketing. That frog is complete dog crap. The Googan revolver has to be the worst topwater lure of all time. You nailed it. Absolute junk. The one I would disagree in is the Googan popper. It’s solid. Even they can’t screw up a popper. The weedless bull Shad was probably my biggest disappointment of 2023. It’s just not good. Way beneath the Mike Bucca name IMO. The headbanger I actually like. It killed it in spring for me.
I have a similar experience with the weedless bull shad. I skipped over it. But I love the Baby Bull Gill. It’s legit IMO.

Do you actually use any of these baits or is this just your bias against certain brands. None of the baits appear to be opened or used.
I have used (fished) the vast majority of the baits, but absolutely, there is bias - good and bad. That is why I continually say that this is "my opinion". It would be impossible to actually field test and then rigorously compare each lure against one another. This is just a fun video to share what I like, what's worked for me, what doesn't. I even mention in the video (I think around November or December box) that when I say it's the worst bait in the box, it may not mean it's a terrible bait. I have to pick the best and worst "in the box". In June, they were all great which means that the "worst" bait was actually a good bait. I appreciate your question and appreciate you watching. Why do you hate googan so much? I like their hardbaits but their softbaits aren't the best
I'm really not a Googan hater. I like several of their baits. Of the Googan baits I don't like, they are usually gimmicky baits that I have not had any luck with like the Revolver, or they are baits that I get so often I am sick of them. Catch Co makes separate Googan Boxes that you can buy at Shop Karls. If there is a Googan bait I would like to buy, I would prefer to just go buy it instead of getting several Googan baits every month. Another funny thing about the Googan baits in MTB is that the most popular baits (like the Bandito Bug) you never get. There are just a handful of Googan baits that they recycle over and over again in the box. Not sure why they do that. I truly am not a Googan hater. I just prefer many other brands over Googan. If you really love their baits, there is nothing at all wrong with that. I hope you keep using them and enjoy it. These videos are just my opinion and for fun. I don't want to convince you to stop fishing with something you love.
@@MrBassTV I don't understand the point of the revolver either like you said, the hooks will just get caught up. I'm not sure why MTB doesn't put in the popular baits like you said because it would be nice to get them even though i don't think their plastics are very durable, which is why i don't like them. I understand that it would be annoying to get the same baits over and over if you buy a 1 year subscription. I've only ever got a monthly subscription and canceled whenever. I also prefer some other brands instead of googan plastics. I was going to buy a few googan bundles from karls when they were half off but they are no longer on sale. Are you planning on starting a different subscription like lucky tackle box or monster bass? I think it would be cool to compare the difference between the 2 after a year of one of those and MTB.
