MAGDA OLIVERO - "Voi lo sapete, o mamma" HD

This is rare interpretation by Magda Olivero of “Voi lo sapete o mamma” from Mascagni’s Cavalleria rusticana. She sang the role on stage only once at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples in 1964. This recording of Santuzza’s aria is from a concert given at the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam in 1968. Her powerful rendition of a desperate woman telling her mother that she lost the person she loves to another woman is memorable.

L'attrice ha cantato il ruolo una sola volta al Teatro San Carlo di Napoli nel 1964. Questa registrazione dell'aria di Santuzza proviene da un concerto tenuto al Royal Concertgebouw di Amsterdam nel 1968. La sua potente interpretazione di una donna disperata che racconta alla madre di aver perso la persona che ama per un'altra donna è memorabile.

How could this be matched. She misses not one nuance It wouldn't have been possible without superior technique and a unique innate vocal profile. Some don't like the quick vibrato. For me, it amplfies the drama. She was a rare treasure.

She was a remarkable singer and actress . In her early recordings the rapid vibrato is very evident. Even allowing for the improvements in recording that occured during her long lifetime, I do feel that as a singer and vocal technician she got better and better as the years progressed. We are so lucky to have heard Magda Olivero.
