2023 has been an extremely weak year for Alton towers with hex and the skyride being closed, the retro squad a lot of rides being unreliable, galactica looking abandoned, nemesis closed, events not being up to standard and many other things do not give off a good impression for first time visitors so here's to a better year in 2024. p.s. when Shawn said and there not just any socks I thought he was going to say there M&S socks
You mentioned nemesis is retracked but it will reopen in 2024
@@henryhackett yeah but it has really lowered capacity and sure they opened subterra but other rides have had huge amounts of downtime I think it could all be down to bianca sammut because she became the divisional director this year and I think the problems come down to towers negligence in the past like shown with hex and also her settling into her new position

I went there today and thought we were going to go at 4:00 but ended up having so much fun. Getting on spinball so much we wasted sometime but ended up staying until closing😂🎉

The Christmas merch is actually really nice,shame they haven't fully decorated the park and the santa grotto is only for the sleepover,can see a few kids upset over that decision,Alton has had a bad year let's hope with nemesis reopening the park gets back to its best its been so sad to see the lack of care to this great park
2024 is looking more positive!
I thaught the plan was to be a 365 park. Apart from the fireworks, it's been a very poor events clander this year. Was that always the plan this year due to other investment elsewhere or is this somthing we will see going forwards. It almost feels like the new park management have been tasked with making as much money as possible with as little as possible.

Another disappointing event in a year of disappointing events. 2023 was a mess for Towers. I really hope to see improvements for 2024 but at this point, I'm not holding my breath. A few years ago, Alton Towers was untouched as the UK's best theme park in my opinion. Now, it seems to slip further and further behind each year. Such a shame. Thanks for the vlog though guys!

For those wondering, the santas sleepover package for a family of 4 is £475 for one night. That includes park, panto, food and santa like Shaun said.
I can’t see how anyone other than locals would go to the park for the day. There is literally nothing to do but walk round and that would take about an hour or so max. Really poor there is no markets or light trail but then again last year it was awful anyway so I wouldn’t have bothered.
Hopefully next year they open more rides and make more of an effort as it just isn’t worth the visit this year unfortunately.

3:15 I've always thought it'd be cool if a park for a Christmas event would invite local vendors to create a medieval market place. With fires for smores (love how Dollywood does that) ice skating rink, all the lights and snow machines. Have a Christmas show and Christmas-ee games. Make it more of a Christmas Renaissance Fair vibe. Six Flags Over Texas had awesome ice slides, like 20' tall of stacked ice with a snow blower when I was there for their Christmas event 2 years ago. I thought that was cool too.

This Christmas event looks awful lack of things to do or any decorations I respect that works happening around the park but this is very disappointing many as well of not opened it at all at this point
We feel that the event should have opened just for hotel guests this year

No lightopia? This is the worst year Alton has shown us in my 30+ years of going. So much is looking outdated, abandoned, forgotten.

Have you seen how nemesis has been given the winter gear so it can tun through winter so i think next year sub terra , curse hex and nemesis will all be open and wherever else the add to forbidden valley😳🤔

What no market either I knew lightopia had gone bust but wow shocking not worth my time sadly, such a shame to as they spent so much on decorations and they look great hope that’s a sign they want to make and invest in the Christmas events more!

Did they really have to do a christmas event this year as it doesnt look very christmasy this year, im looking forward to seeing the vlog from the christmas sleepover at the hotel tommorow.
Unfortunately it’s not a great offering for day guests this year, however there’s much more to see at the hotels coming up tomorrow!
i have heard for next year christmas from a worker on fireworks there bringing something to towers for christmas but don't know if it's true or not
I'm sure it is a great event guys, however I go to the park for the rides so not for me unfortunately.
Yikes, xmas looks anemic at AT, baubles are in low quantity and too small, facades remain bare, the tree cluster is leaning all over, AT could have absolutely crapped out a basic light trail of their own, such a weak response. Your definition of "loads" of xmas lights must be diff than the rest of us. Open top fish tanks are terrible, risk grabbing or dumping by public. This theme park's attractions are mostly closed, the atmo is absolute trash.

I'd like it they opened up the gardens, katanga canyon and gloomy woods for christmas, just so people have a bit more to do (minus the rapids)

When did day tickets go on sale for christmas last year as they arnt on yet?
We’re not too sure
We’ve now been and can confirm they’ve added lots of trees and quite a few lights to the area near Hex and a number of lights in the world of David walliams, so I did feel Christmassy. At night tower street looked great from the other side of the lake. As a whole experience as a Santa sleepover though I thought it was really poor. Food standard was awful at the hotel, the computer systems crashed so everyone was very stressed having to queue to check in again and for £500 it was just so over priced. Splash landings was fantastic though I’ll give them that and we enjoyed the panto but sadly we won’t return at Christmas time 😢

I hope they fix the fire effect on Wickerman next year and also see Hex back open in March 2024.

I think the frustration for me is that if they kept on top of TLC and maintenance gradually over the year, like world class parks in other countries do, they wouldn't need to have a reduced offering for Christmas, guests are being charged to visit and not given a quality experience simply because of how the park has been managed.
The only thing I can conclude is that they're majorly struggling for money so the revenue isn't there to do year round maintenence, and potentially they had to pay fewer staff so they didn't have people available to do more decorating as a way of saving cash. I have a bad feeling that the company is prioritising profits over putting money back into their properties because it's a huge corporation so they undoubtedly have the money but aren't spending it on AT.

Alton towers is an embarrassment compared to similar (now vastly superior) theme parks around Europe. Everything they bother to do is always half arsed. So sad because it has the potential to be one of the best parks in the world…

Funny how at Energylandia in winter where it is usually snowing Everything is open (apart from water rides obs) with additional attractions which are all included for free....

This should be a hotel guest exclusive event. Theres not enough for day guests to make it worth it and the Santas grotto isnt a part of it for day guests. It just seems really weak.

hi themeparkworldwide i will be visiting alton towers next summer in june will be my first time to go on the curse of alton manor and wicker man i have done alton towers before in the past but because it's such a big theme park i didn't get time go on wicker man any news yet on the opening of the retheme of nemessis shawn and charlotte hopefully nemessis will be open by then the time i go

Thanks for the update. We are going on Monday (New Years day) but have a toddler, so a few rides in CBeebies land and a Teletubbies show would be great for us! We are going because we have Merlin passes. We wouldn’t bother otherwise. We didn’t get chance to see the light trails from previous years.
We were in Blackpool today and did The Gruffalo and Madame Tussaud’s. The Gruffalo clubhouse is brilliant for small children and was absolutely ram packed. Tussaud’s isn’t worth bothering unless you have a pass. There’s some Christmas stalls and rides outside the tower at the moment which was nice. Also went in the ballroom for the first time today (that I can remember) which was impressive!
Nice to see the park saving some money to do work all around the park on attractions and themeing for 2024 that needs doing rather than them spending some money on Christmas
2024 needs to be a huge improvement on this year so it’s positive to hear work is happening

Having visited during a peak weekend during the Scarefest, me and my girlfriend knew it would be busy, but we didn't expect such poor reliability. 13, Wickerman, Smiler, Galactica and obviously Nemesis all down for massive periods of the weekend. Rita only one that keeps going. it just makes queues ridiculous sadly.
Towers Street looks stunning however the rest of the park might as well be closed !! It’s shocking how the UK’s biggest and best theme park can’t even do a decent Christmas event anymore !! 2 of the Gulliver’s parks have light trails and even Wheelgate that nobody visits has a decent looking Christmas event this year

Alton Towers is such a very unique popular theme park resort it’s a shame it had a few weak moments hopefully there’s more surprises in store a real game changer for 2024 positive outcomes onwards and upwards for Alton Towers I wish everyone at Alton Towers all the best of luck for the near future adventurous happy health safe productive journey
A shame they don't sell the Christmas merchandise online. I live in London and don't drive so only make it up to towers a couple of times a year and wouldn't be worth my time to travel up for such a limited event but would definitely purchase a Christmas jumper or mug if they sold them online

With what you said at the start with the TLC stuff. Is that 100% confirmed or is it just a guess because of how messy and tired its been recently? Ive also got a prediction for 2024 next year. With mandril mayhem open in christmas and its a modern b&m. kinda makes me think nemesis could be open for christmas 2024 too. Probably wont happen but it would be nice

I dont understand why Alton Towers cant put a full ride offering on like most other parks across europe, even if it was just a couple of coasters. Its 0 degrees in Poland atm and Zadra is open and 3 degrees in Germany and Taron is open.
Definitely. They need to sort out the reliability in the main season first though in my opinion!

The park really to balance out the offering between day guests and santa sleepover so both get value for their money but hardly any decorations barley any food offering and very few rides extremely poor

I was in two minds as to whether I should comment ….. I don’t celebrate Christmas. But here goes…… I think this is symptomatic of a lack credible competition. Poor park presentation, poor ride availability and years of poor planning/investment to replace permanent flat rides. Whilst I don’t expect our parks to be akin to Disney/Universal or some of the European parks. I don’t expect mould on coaster supports, ride stations looking filthy and traveling fair rides at a theme park. Concerning the latter, popularity is irrelevant it’s just not appropriate in a theme park. Here’s hoping for a better performance from Alton Towers in 2024. Better still if the UK could attract another ‘big hitter’ to invest and bring much needed competition Merlin’s way.
Definitely. We’ve seen some poor decisions over the past few years that have led to where the park is now unfortunately!

The area is closed off however from RCR work is progressing on the theming!
Video suggestion idea: I think you should do a few gaming videos while theme parks are shut for winter. I think you should play five nights at Freddy’s. It’s quite scary at first but after a while, you’ll get used to it and it’ll be wine a really fun game. You should maybe also create some things in planet coaster and maybe even try about recreations of UK theme parks in Roblox. Those would be great and fun video ideas.

The good news is that in February half term had been extended to open CBeebies Land… yay!
However, actual good news, it seems like Saturday’s hours are increased to 10am to 6pm!

This looks great, but as a thrill seeker, there isn't much here for me.
I really think Alton Towers need to do exactly as you suggest and get those indoor rides and restaurants open. They can't expect the crowds if the offering isn't there but it does look quite magical at Christmas. As for not being able to see Santa during a day trip.. shame on Alton Towers, some families just can't afford the over night.

Hi shawn and Charlotte thankyou again fir your look around your home park I just wonder if they maybe just have not got round to the other areas yet because although there is only about 4 weeks the Dec's will still be up a while after having said that if it shuts completely soon then they should be sorting it I agree with all you both said it did look great near the front apart from the odd tree that had a lean on it can't wait to see tomorrow's and by the way I think an ice rink is a brill idea even Blackpool has one of those each year thankyou again lovelies hope you got warmed up see you on tomorrow's xxxx

What's frustrating is that they only seem to decorate or put performers on or very close to towers street on every event. Especially with the decorations. If they'd taken a few of them towers street trees and put them around the open areas it'd of made such a bigger difference.

All events have been scaled back this year but this has to be the worst. I’d rather see a return of the same Scarefest if it means a better Christmas, Halloween isn’t everything & other events are just as important
