    Hello. I know you posted this 8 years ago but you've just solved a problem I've been having with my RV brakes here in New Zealand. Thankyou very much. We just couldn't work out what the problem was. 😊

    Great video! I broke a magnet clip today and you showed how to install a new one. Good deal. And it was good to see that you showed the short lining (the primary shoe) goes in the front and the long lining (the secondary shoe) goes in the rear. I have taken apart so many drum brakes to find that backwards. I've done hundreds, maybe thousands of drum brakes but usually hydraulic not electric. Until today I haven't touched an electric brake since the 1970's. Thanks!

    I have a dump trailer which I have to leave outside due to under cover room. I had it lifted off the ground for the winter, Winter is over so before I was about to let it down onto the ground I turned the wheels to make sure everything was free moving, unfortunately one wheel (front left with elect. brake) was sticking or rubbing. Thanks to UTube and more especially your video I could understand what to look for and fix. I'm not done yet as it is pretty rusty in there and parts are not moving freely, but you gave me the courage and knowhow to tackle this job. Thanks again.

    Excellent and unlike disassembly video...unlike the vast majority of electric trailer brake videos where the just replace the whole backing plate brake assembly with a new one. Just what I was looking for since my vintage trailer brakes are discontinued. Thank you!🙏

      Thanks, and agreed! Most are just a remove and replace. Aside from this one issue, there was no reason to do that in my case. Since yours are discontinued, this is an option to explore. Hope your job goes well. Take care and good luck, G.

    Don't recommend using wire cutters to reset your springs. With experience no biggie, but then people reviewing may not be aware and they may nick the spring to much to cause a failure. Nice job, especially with the bearings. Love the upgrade on the nut assembly. You were very detail in your explanation of how and why.

    • @ghostses
      @ghostses  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed on the use of the wire cutters Ron. They are super hard, but too much with the cutters can nick them. I do have experience, and finesse can't come through in video form. Glad you like the video and thanks for the comment. Take care, G.

    Thank you so much. I just paid our local Iron Works welders about 1K $ to reinforce my 16’ trailer bed at the loading junction and they did an incredible job. It is a 30 year old trailer so it needed some help. When they got through I had them rebook up the electric brakes which hadn’t worked for about 3 years! So after all of their hard work I drove my 16’ trailer back to my farm. Oh Oh! The brake on the left side of the trailer was locking up every time I depressed the brake. You called it “running hot.” Well it was “SMMMMOOOKIN!” So I went to my favorite TH-cam and watched your entire training video...it was perfect. I would watch about 10 minutes...go and perform the procedure. Then I would watch another 10 minutes and go perform the procedure. Your explanation and examples were so well done that I could reproduce the procedure and get the desired results. By the time I was done...it worked. I needed every single minute of your video! Thanks again.

      No problem Joseph! Glad it was useful. I started treating my property for mosquitoes and I've only seen three in the last couple of weeks. They get really bad around here. I still have to use sprays when going elsewhere, so thanks for the tip on the Avon product.

    I bought one of those bearing packers years ago and it sure beats scraping grease off the palm of your hand. I didn't have any issues with mine but I did buy a Rubbermaid container with a lid to store it in when not in use. That way I don't' have to worry about it getting contaminated with dust or dirt. I do the same thing with my oil funnels . As always your trailer brake tutorial was very informative and it makes me wonder if a lot of these RV owners that talk about bearing failure might be caused by that bushing being worn out.

    • @ghostses
      @ghostses  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Lee Mullen
      I agree Lee! Why I waiting all these years to spend about $5-6 I don't know...lol. Good idea using a container to store it and funnels. I usually clean them up so they don't get contaminated. I guess if the bushing was worn, it could cause the heat to get high enough with brakes hanging to damage the bearings. Or it could be a simple maintenance or adjustment issue- who knows. Take care, G.

    Great video! I too had the misfortune of having one of my trailer brakes go bad on me. Plenty of dust on wheel and hot hub. Those brake assemblies are only one year old so I was surprised to have an issue. Could not stop and work on it as hub was too hot to handle. I have to remove the wheel to get to the bearings. I had a suspicion that the magnetic shoe arm was getting hung up on that metal protrusion on the front brake shoe. Not gonna deal with that bushing so I'll file away on the side of the protrusion and see if that fixes the problem.

    Watched the whole thing G. Better you than me...I've done my share. Well done tutorial and good tips with simple tools, Nice! One thing I used to do if the drum weren't turned and knew they had been hot was to use some medium emery on the inside of the drum by hand, because it would show hot spots right away, for possible turning or discard. Brakes are one of those things that people usually don't realize is; that they are taking their lives as well as others in their hands. I know we share that philosophy.
    Quick Story: 100yrs ago...Had a gal come in with a Vega with a semi built 350 and an Old's pumpkin and axles shortened, for new rear air shocks @¿@ (single feed!!). Put in the new shocks and built a dual feed for her, set it on the ground to road toad it...thought better and looked under the hood. Nice job on the engine conversion, clean work on the fire wall...then noticed it had the OEM Master Cylinder...and had been chromed. Oh My...knowing it had improper sized wheel cylinders on the rear and the tiny stuff on the front...Just couldn't road toad it. Told her, nice job on the engine and pumpkin but I would never work on this again until that was fixed and that she was taking other peoples life in her hands which I won't tolerate! A few months later she stopped by and showed a whole new system she had put in to it. Can't remember all the details but it was substantial and thanked her for stopping by. One of the scariest thing I ever saw for a hot rod...a rocket with no parachute or brakes! Till Then, ~PJ

      Good tip on the emery! That's true, they're nothing not to have right for sure. Good story! Stopping is something most won't think about since it's all about the speed...lol. Good you were able to voice the concern, she adhered to the advice, and then found a remedy! G.

    If you come across that football...DON'T touch it. Give it to the neighbor who cuts limbs with a skillsaw😁. Your video is great - well presented between video & explanation - not shaky or too dark to see. Thank you very much!!👍🏿(phone took away my white one).

    S great job. Best I've ever see. The wires that come through the axels to your brakes, I know one is ground. My question is the two wires coming from the back of the hub does it matter which is ground?

    Hey thanks Bob ive owned quite a few Campers and other trailers ironically the one i owned with electric brakes i picked up at a repair center the previous owner had it at for a State inspection and A brake adjustment that being said the system worked flawlessly for the 10 years i owned and pulled it so i never needed to do any work to the system I knew that it was a electri magnet that got energized to engage the shoes But didnt need to mess with or learn more about them of course my uriousity was always there and thats what brought me to your channel overall the systems appear straight foward to me and realities ly easy to work on I had done a lot of work in the years past i had to fool / work on hydraulic trailer brakes on boat trailers that were always getting Salt water exposed in Florida and rust would form like crazy ? Thanks for the video BTW the Monkey Football story was pretty funny perhaps if i would had listened to ole Whats her name about her squeaky brakes we wouldn’t be Happily Divorced for 25 years ?

    I had my dexter brake on my small camping trailer hanging up. (New brakes). This video leads me to a possible reason Why my brakes where still creating heat even after disconnecting the power back and also using the adjuster to take in the brakes as far as they would come in. Sdragging
