"Stevie was an endless, open channel that music just poured out of. He made people who'd never touched a guitar in their life want to pick one up and start playing, and he made those of us who'd played live onstage with him before want to quit."............Eric Clapton.

His older brother Jimmie was considered maybe the best guitarist in Texas until Stevie grew up. The Vaughans were from Oak Cliff, south of Dallas, and moved to Austin as teenagers to make it in music. I was lucky enough to have seen them play many times.

You should do Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jeff Healey together. Both have this incredible solos back to back and watch as Jeff plays a note that impresses Stevie Ray Vaughan. They tear it up.

SRV & DT had to toss in that gentle section to let you catch your breath! Too much of a hellacious good thing can drive you crazy with awe. The individual notes from SRV's guitar just cascade from his fingertips but the notes never collide or crash into each other making a muddy sound, they remain distinct and beautifully in-order.

I was fortunate enough to see the GOAT 6 times and it was by far the greatest conerts/performances of my entire life. Several of these I was within 20 feet of him. He was so amazing that many times the audiences were so shocked, they literally forgot to clap...then it would hit them and they would erupt into a frenzy. Pure magic. One concert, he played for over an hour and while the exhausted band members took a 20 minute Break. He sat down on a stool with an acoustic guitar played thru it and when they came back out he picked up one of his 6 electric guitars and went directly into a hard rocking song, then played for another hour to the end. Two encores after that, solo. Phenomenal...by far the greatest blues guitarists ever.

You have ti checkout Stevie's version of Third Stone From The Sun. Song sounds normal, but what he does to his guitar is criminal. It's a lesson on what the Whammy Bar can do on a guitar. I personally have never seen anyone do anything close to destroying a guitar as Stevie does his!

I was fortunate to see Stevie in 1987 at the Iowa State Fair when he had gotten clean and sober and it was the best concert I have ever seen. I saw Eric Clapton about 1 month later and there was no comparison and believe Eric knows it from Alpine Valley before Stevie got on that helicopter back to Chicago and died. RIP Stevie.
The day before his death, Stevie Ray Vaughan allegedly told his band and crew members about a nightmare that he had in which he was at his own funeral and saw thousands of mourners. He felt "terrified, yet almost peaceful".[4] Backstage after the show that evening, the musicians talked about playing together again, particularly with Eric Clapton for a series of dates at London's Royal Albert Hall in early 1991 as a tribute to Jimi Hendrix.[5] Moments later, Clapton's tour manager, Peter Jackson, said that the weather was getting worse and they had to leave soon.[6] Vaughan's last words to drummer Chris Layton were, "I love ya."[7][8]
Four helicopters were waiting on a golf course to transport concert group members to Chicago. Vaughan was with his brother Jimmie Vaughan and Jimmie's wife Connie as they went to board their reserved Bell 206B Jet Ranger helicopter piloted by Jeff Brown.[8][9] Jackson had told Vaughan that seats were reserved for all three of them.[5][10] However, they discovered that the seats had been taken by Clapton's agent Bobby Brooks, bodyguard Nigel Browne, and assistant tour manager Colin Smythe, with only one empty seat available.[5][8][11] Vaughan asked Jimmie and Connie if he could take the last seat, saying, "I really need to get back."[5][8] Jimmie and Connie obliged and caught the next flight in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, with manager Mark Proct.[5]
