In this video i have successfully repaired legendary Akai GX9 tapedeck transport. It is very nice deck with glass ferrite (GX) heads equipped.
This device have had bad belt, pinch rollers, idler tire part was messed up big time and also needed some love.
In video were showed how to change belt, idler tire replacement, pinch rollers replacement, tape path alignment and etc…
Things done of camera: back tension check and we got healthy 12g/cm, supply pinch roller pressure - 200g, take up pinch roller pressure - 390g.
Also azimuth, tape speed adjustment and W&F check.
As for all my repairs i use only quality passed components/parts: belts, idler tires, pinch rollers, springs, washers, etc...
There is also group on facebook for more discussions about walkmans, cassette decks and other audio:

If you have any questions regarding repair please contact me.
    Cheers
P.S. don’t forget to remove and clean/relube pinch rollers brackets, because they are known to seize due to old grease drying :)

I have a GX-9, with a chewed up idler wheel that I'm about to dive into. I'm so glad that I found your video first!! This is extremely helpful, not just for my repair, but also for maintenance and best practices for disassembly going forward. Thank you for sharing!!

hey there! by any chance do you have a copy of that service manual you are using? I can only find the PCB schematics one, which is unfortunately not well labeled, or frankly if you know which pot is the speed control for the motor, i'd assume it's one of the two on the top of the transport, just don't wanna mess with the wrong one yknow, thanks! I appreciate you uploading these kinds of videos, it gives a great look at what to expect opening mine
