  • Caroline Polachek's deluxe edition of "Desire, I Want to Turn Into You: Everasking Edition" is blowing my mind but we should not be surprised considering she's been working for this for nearly 2 decades! Between the ages of Chairlift, Ramona Lisa, CEP and producing for the likes of Beyonce + Shygirl, collaborating with Grimes, Charli XCX and so many other artists, Caroline Polachek is a story of hope, creative persistence, and the value that comes with keeping your expression true to you ❤️
correction I realize Ramona Lisa was concurrent with Chairlift, not after the fact
    0:00 - THE indie darling
0:43 - Desire, I want to turn into you
1:45 - Expanding art rather than isolating it
2:20 - Chairlift, Ramona Lisa, and CEP
    5:00 - Embarking on a solo career
    6:42 - Classic opera moment
    7:00 - Caroline the producer
    8:15 - Longevity in art
    9:00 - Caroline the curator
10:30 - Innovating and resisting influence
11:40 - The beauty of creative constraints

*CORRECTIONS* as kindly provided by @maker754 :) (let me know if I missed anything else, I'll updated here) -
    1) bruises was initially debuted and released in 2006, not 2008. It found mainstream recognition through the iPod commercial in 2008, accompanying does you inspire you.
    2) Ramona Lisa was a passion project made during one month spent in France, which is where she got the inspiration for the cicadas. It came in between the second and third and final choir lift album, not after the band was disbanded. CEP’s drawing the target around the arrow came in January 2017, just a few months after chairlift was disbanded.

Caroline Polachek’s self-concept and point of view are so strong, it’s impossible not to be inspired by her, regardless of the medium you work in! I’ve never made music in my life but she’s a huge inspiration in my illustration /design practices

As someone who has been incredibly inspired by her unwavering dedication to the process and fulfilling her own artistic vision since 2015, it’s so gratifying to see everyone finally give her some recognition. She’s truly one of a kind and a rare kind of artist I fear we are seeing less and less of. Her music is more than a product or experience, it’s something more. It’s evident by how lived in and well developed every aspect of her work is that she isn’t just a one trick artist. That being said there’s a few things I’d like to correct if I may….
I found her through chairlift and was immediately obsessed. even in those early days she was so multi faceted, from her choreo to her Melodie’s and using her voice as an instrument. got obsessed with Ramona Lisa for sooooo long and that project was what really made me FALL IN LOVE, I was a huge synth nerd and hearing her talk about her synthesis process was inspiring and therapeutic. Pang came out and at a perfect time for me since I was into hyper pop adjacent acts like Sophie and 100 gecs and got me through pre pandemic and the pandemic itself. she wears her influences like Kate bush, bjork, so vividly while making her own fresh addition to the pop canon. I love how open she is towards genre and influences and not seeing anything superior to the other but all sound and aesthetic being on the same intellectual level. love her eternally.

Caroline Polachek has completely changed and gave me an entirely new perspective on how I view music. It's not necessarily that she changed the way I viewed music, but she brought out the way I've always WANTED to view music (the way that was changed with influence by the media and peoples opinions that just don't understand). Upon deleting all my social media for a bit and taking down all my past music, I immediately started getting Caroline Polachek recommendations on youtube, spotify, even soundcloud. I like to think of it as a sign honestly

I found her on my Discover Weekly playlist on Spotify, a couple months before she blew up on TikTok. The album Pang will always be special to me because it got me through a difficult time in my life. My top song for 2023 was also Pretty In Possible but I think my #1 song is Look at Me Now. I would love to hear her live.

i really needed this video, i feel like a big part of learning how to produce is resisting yourself too in terms of maybe not being able to create the 100% vision you had in mind. And to just keep going and let it evolve in front of you
