    I remember playing it on the GBC when I was 8 and taking forever to beat the intro levels thinking that it was just the same old game. When DK got back up and the next screen was completely different I nearly lost my underdeveloped pre-pubescent mind. I realized in that moment that nothing was real and everything society had taught me up to that point was all a lie.

    • @RobotMasterSplash
      @RobotMasterSplash 2 ปีที่แล้ว +78

      It's a brilliant way to immediately show the player that the game is going to be so much more than they're used to. Let them bust the original maps wide open before revealing the real game.

    • @Lurdiak
      @Lurdiak 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Even if you don't use them those maps are made a lot easier than they were in the arcade in a lot of subtle ways, because they don't want to hold back the surprise of there being way more game too long.

    • @Forty2de
      @Forty2de 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It's true that the new moves are available from the beginning, but they don't tell you that. You're not going to discover them if you just play through the beginning, you'd have to screw around to discover them. They do however show them off in small cutscenes as you progress through the game, it's pretty clever. It's like you're unlocking them as you play except they were always unlocked.

    I genuinely never realised how influential the Donkey Kong series was, and you brilliantly highlighted this in the video. It’s just a shame how Donkey Kong has sort of fallen in popularity in recent times. But Kirby was never that popular, but after getting a 3D game it’s popularity skyrocketed. So maybe if Donkey Kong gets a new 3D game the same could happen. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
