  • I haven't seen this anywhere, so I decided to make it. Also, it's really cool to see a normal military fight in an anime. The battle for Central does not count.

    You gotta give it to Kimblee he’s much smarter than people give him credit for. He wanted to kill the soldiers in fort Briggs to make the crest of blood at first but when he realized they were way too hard of a target he manipulated the enemy into an unwinnable battle and got them all slaughtered and still succeeded in his mission

      In a WW2 Soviet Union fought against Germany for four years. Allies went to it in 1944, when it was almost over. Then Germany was almost beaten by USSR.
      USA had it's issues with Japanese Empire from 1942. But it was a war outside USA territory. The Great Britain suffered from bombardment but was not pillaged by invasion.
      Imagine Pearl Harbour in most of USA territory. Destroyed cities, starvation on the occupied territories. Genocide.
      Everybody talks about Holocaust, but what about 40 million deaths of my people?
      From that miserable desolated point to unbreakable war machine in times of constant war for four years. That what USSR did.
      At first, there was no other way but to retreat. Fronts was in the poor condition. Germans had more firepower bechase Barbarossa plan was come in realization in the moment then Soviet Army was in the process of reorganization.
      And then, our factories was suffered bombardment, so we had to evacuate all of them to Ural.
      Japanese invasion never started, but just in case, USSR needed forces there in the east. So many battalions was absent where they was truly needed.
      I hope i enlightened you in some way.

      The soviets had better technology and more men than Germany but were a bunch of incompetents and were obliterated if not for the USA and British Empire lend leasing trillions and sending thousands of tanks, ammunition and food the USSR wouldnt have lasted more than 1942, they were also obliterated against less developed and far smaller forces in the soviet-polish war and the winter war and the Hungarian-soviet war, so in general the Russian military of the 19-20th century was mostly a shitshow.

Second,bringing up French is irrelevant as 1 the writer is Japanese,2 This anime takes place in Germany,and 3 names come from all over the world. Hence why an African can have a Spanish name. Did you read my comment? Literally the “it’s male in French” doesn’t matter as that’s a completely different culture and it’s irrelevant.

    There's a part of me that wonders what Amestrian officials told Drachma about this incident after the Promised Day Battle. Cause I'm pretty sure the Drachmians(?) would want an explanation about what happened. Did the Amestrians just straight up tell them that they were tricked into coming to Briggs by someone working with "demons" to destroy Amestris? That the Drachma soldiers were used as a sacrifice to make a bloodcrest to be used in a huge alchemic seal? And if they did, would Drachma believe them?
    This is one of the few gripes I had with this show: not enough world building. The show pretty much focused on Amestris and Ishval, with just a bit of Xing into the mix. But we know next to nothing about the other countries next to Amestris: Creta, Areugo, and Drachma. The only thing we know about them is there are constant border wars with them, which was all part of the Homunculi's plan.
    There are so many questions that I wished got answered. What are the other countries like? What are their stances regarding alchemy and such? What was their reaction to the Promised Day Battle; did it affect them in any way? Were they even made aware of what was happening to their neighbor? Did they manage to establish peace with Amestris after the Homunculi were defeated?

      *VERY* Good Question!

    • @SuperFunnyboy78
      @SuperFunnyboy78 4 ปีที่แล้ว +43

      On the one hand, this is true as far as world building goes. But it doesn’t serve much of a purpose for the plot as it would be nothing more than extensive padding. The theme with a majority of the series is that everything and everyone involved is connected in some manner, whether it be through actions, fate, or what have you.
      But I do agree that I’m curious as to other countries viewpoints. But on the other hand I like to imagine it myself.
      Though technically the Star of Milos movie took place on Cretas (I think), and they had different usage of alchemy like healing (separate from Alkehestry), and one of the villains carving transmutation circles into his hands to fire frost and purple lightning.

    This is when you realize just how advanced Amestris is! They’re using ww2 tech, like 50 cal’s, ww2 tanks and semi-auto rifles! The Ishvalans were using Maxim machine guns and bolt-action rifles supplied by Aurugo. Drachma is using ww1 artillery with shells so heavy, they need to be loaded using a crane! The weapons supplied to the Revolutionaries by Xing are also ww1-era! I also think the reason they don’t use planes in this universe isn’t because they don’t know of them but because no other country would know how to build a runway on which to land them!

      While I agree with most of your point, the huge artilleries likely have less to do with technological level, and more likely because they are dealing with gigantic fortification. Ok so this is going to be some deep lore shit but I can't help but mention how minstralized the Drachma commander is. I don't think it was done out of malice but is an interesting example of world building. The FMA setting is what as known as a "strangeworld" depiction of existing real life States. Amestris is Germany, Xing is of course China, the Ishvalans are arguably perhaps Kurdistan and Drachma...Drachma is Russia. Germany and Russia have historically been notorious rivals and my point is that its interesting that the Drachman commander was depicted with very menacing Slavic characteristics. As is he has Slavic features but represented in a negative light IE very aggressive and angry. Once again I think this was done to emphasize Drachma's role as minor villains given the story is told from the perspective of Amestris AKA Germany. And not a necessarily hateful or derogatory way as despite being negative the Drachma caricature is still one of strength albeit an abrasive strength. It's also interesting to note that of course FMAB was also created by the Japanese who have a history of conflict with Russians and a previous alliance with Germans....but also also a previous conflict with Germans as well.....
    In closing, I'm not trying to imply this was done with malicious intent or suggesting any kind of real world bias; just that FMAB's production payed attention to detail and committed to great world building. That's why it's great.

    Did Drachma not have any combat alchemists with them? How is ANY nation that doesn't have alchemists, let alone combat specialist ones not steamrolled by countries that do like Amestris? Being a combat oriented alchemist with pre drawn circles whether on gloves, gountlets, or otherwise is basically like having super powers and having said alchemists in your military is like having super powered human weapons of mass destruction. I mean even alchemists that don't have the ability to do transmutations without circles, (which frankly isn't much of a limit anyway) especially those with pre drawn ones can still radically shape a battlefield in mere seconds or minutes and render static defenses pointless. As long as the circles touche and the alchemist knows what a wall is made of they can tear it down near Instantaneously at the molecular or even atomic levels no matter how tough the material is!

    Military Knowledge Nugget for you amazing people those artillery pieces are actually 17 pounder Anti Tank guns that were used by the British and Canadians during World War II. Like the name suggests these heavy weapon platforms were designed with the purpose of eliminating tanks. They would be towed by trucks and jeeps, a infantry Regiment would have an artillery Battalion of 16 guns 4 batteries each battery has 4 guns. These units would be in place to give heavy weapon support to an infantry unit when encountering tanks. The 17 Pounder Gun was the most powerful allied gun for army operations capable of penetrating a Tiger Tank up to a kilometer away. It would later be adapted to the Sherman Firefly.
    Sorry about that, be safe and have a fantastic day

    I mean it was proving the point of the blood sacrifice being so heinous, but I really want to see some major fighting, especially since besides Valkyria Chronicles or a few other anime that actually show somewhat of conventional warfare which made a really interesting, and compelling background. We sadly only get to see a modicum of conflict, even though it may be one sided, but with the Drachmans it doesn’t seem to be. They are basically Tsarist Russia in this universe, and quite possibly are the biggest threat to Amestris. I say this because if you look at the map of FMAB official or otherwise, Drachma is HUGE compared to Xing, so it is not just the large amount of territory but it’s well-disciplined army and seems to be relatively well equipped compared to its’ WW1 counterpart and relatively good on supplies to the Soviet type. but due to their extreme belligerence and focus on military conduct, and possibly survival within their country. I honestly found them interesting not only to this fact, because it is like the Soviet and German Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact in 1939 between the Soviet Union and Germany discussed on the Wiki, which in our reality was a nonaggression pact between the two powers in invading Poland, and to not fight each other, but eventually the Pact was broken by the Germans in Mid 1941 on June 22nd when the German Wehrmacht launched one of the largest offensives in Military history in the form of Operation Barbarossa. The resulting action had the Soviets being caught unawares and poorly equipped, until mass swaths of their territory where taken by the invading Germans until they where pushed back into their heartlands at Stalingrad and Moscow, until finally consolidating their forces and finally breaking the German lines, and forcing the enemy back. Also there were of course several horrors that took place around the time of the German invasion, of course we hear about the Lebenstraum and the horrific treatment of ethnic Russians and other people with Slavic blood in them, which of course made the Russian even more revenge fueled when they took back their territory and ended WW2 with the Allied Powers.
    What I am getting at here is that they had a major missed opportunity, Drachma is one of the few countries that is strong enough to stand against Amestris without yielding any territory, and so fierce they had to erect a massive fortification to contain the Drachman fury (Fort Briggs), and besides that the ONLY other obstacle is the mountains, but without the Fort, the Drachmans would be free to burn a path straight into Amestrian territory. Here is another factor, we know that this is Drachma declaring war against Amestris, in accordance to the Pact in the real world, discussed above, who started hostilities in the beginning? Was it Amestrian thirst for new territory, or Drachman Belligerence, and did the Amestrians do something much more horrible to the Drachmans than wage war on them, or Drachma commit a horrible action against them. It seems with the few Context clues we have concerning this nation, is that fighting the Drachmans is hard due to the mountainous terrain, but as demonstrated they are capable of field organization as well. Due to the North being much more isolated than that of the other bordering countries such as Aerugo and Creta, in a fight for their life and territory.
    I want to point out that back to my further question if Amestris did something horrible to Drachma, the Drachman Commander calls Fort Briggs an “abomination”. Now this could just be insulting the concrete monstrosity of a fort, but alluding to it, Briggs could not only be a symbol that the Drachmans wish to conquer, but possibly have been something more oppressive.
    In this universe however, the countries of FMA are scattered and are pretty much on their own against Amestris until Father is dethroned, and it seems only that time Amestrian successor leadership under former General Grumman and very possibly Mustang himself, that the fighting may possibly be over, but besides rebuilding Ishval, people don’t seem to understand that these nations aren’t just going to roll over. Of course they where already struggling against Amestris, but they invaded their homeland and butchered their people, and the end of the show, doesn’t make it clear whether to end hostilities with these countries, or that they will continue.

      To spill blood. Father's ultimate goal was to challenge God and he first obtained immortality by tricking an ancient Civilization into preforming a nation-sized human transmutation circle. It's almost like a Connect the Dots puzzle. He needed a rune on the northern edge of Amestris to complete his ritual. He was initially going to use the Ft. Briggs soldiers, but they were too mighty and paranoid. So Kimblee was sent even further north to FMA's version of Russia and he tricked a military commander into attacking. He knew they'd be wiped out, but he needed blood for the crest.

    why are the Briggs soilders using ,what looks like, anti-tank guns on top of the wall insted of using artillery against infantry soliders?

    • @karhedin
      @karhedin 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      the fact is that they are using artillery against infantry. it's simply not the "heavy artillery" like the one used by the Drachmian.
      What define an artillery piece as "anti-tank" is the ability to fire anti-tank shells but having that ability dont stop them from firing high explosive shells as well.
      those guns were "field guns" that can fire both type of ammo. they also have a better rate of fire and maneuvrability than the heavy artillery making them better at firing at moving target while heavy artillery is better at destroying fixed positions.

    • @TheCrankyCow

    • @MrMarinus18
      @MrMarinus18 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well the country is based on Germany and the Germans were very fond of making compromised weapons. The most famous example is them fusing the light and medium machine guns together in creating the MG34. Maybe they are using a compromise field gun that can be effectively used against both infantry and tanks. The Germans never fielded a piece like that in WW2 but they could have.
      It isn't the only time FMAB has made devices that never existed. In the battle for the capital they have an infantry tank and the Germans never used that. Their tanks were build for mobility and infantry tanks were called that because they usually were not much faster than infantry. By far the most famous infantry tank was the Matilda II with a top speed of only 20 km/h which is very low compared to for example the British Crusader which could reach 50. That 20 km/h was on the test track under ideal conditions so in battle it is likely to be half of that if not even less. In the tank stats of mobility, armor and firepower the British went for armor and mobility. The infantry tanks might have been slow but they could go over truly any terrain. But by far the most important thing was armor, they had to be armored enough that they could stand up to pretty much anything the enemy could be firing on them.
      In the battle for the capital it looks most like a fusion between the British Matilda II and the German Panzer III. The Panzer III was made largely with mobility in mind as it's most important feature. firepower was compromised severely leaving them utterly helpless against the British Matilda II as they couldn't even pierce it in the weak points. Their lack of armor also made even the small British 2lbs gun able to pierce them no problem. It's armor was also weak.
      However those guns indeed look very long and of a fairly low caliber. Often actually heavy artillery is just as if not more effective in firing against moving targets. It's lower rate of fire is easily compensated for by the far larger blast radius. Across long distances the accuracy of light and heavy artillery is also the same. The finer aiming of the light artillery is easily compensated by the fact that because of it's low inertia it is easily affected by wind. The reason light artillery was used was because it was faster to set up and easier to move around if the battle conditions changed. Not only that but a larger number of small pieces is more strategically flexible than a smaller number of large pieces. They can't use heavy artillery on the wall as it will likely damage the wall with the recoil.
      It is weird though that the wall doesn't have some pieces of fixed heavy artillery. While you can't just move heavy artillery onto a wall it is easily possible to design a wall to have strongpoints in it that can support heavy artillery. It's odd that this wasn't done. I would imagine they would have several large fixed guns on the wall and supplement them with the field guns.

      Rice Calculator nothing. Spilling blood is all that’s needed. The homunculi takes care of the rest.

      Rice Calculator what, the Drachma army invading Briggs? They’re schmucks.
      The blood spilled in that area? Well, if it isn’t a spoiler for you, then it’s because the blood is required to transmute the country into a Philosopher’s Stone. Contained inside of the homunculi’s progenitor.
