My father, Albert Schoen was born in Sydney Mines Nova Scotia either 1917 or
1918. Moved to Michigan and I, my dad, my mom and my younger brother visited family in summer of 1969. We went Cod fishing on the ocean with my dad's relatives. Beautiful place.

9:25 to 13:00 is Whycocomagh showing Skye Mtn. behind the Reservation with wig-wam construction. Panning around Whycocomagh Bay to Salt Mtn. and Indian Island, then Stewardale cemetery and MacLean Church. This church burned to the ground in 1960 and was over 100 years old at the time.

The scenes from Kenloch seems to reveal the family of Dr. Robert Gunn who may be the source of the films. My family home ( Malcolm and Janet MacQuarrie) is viewed from the top of Beach Hill along with Rosie Lesley's home , the church , train station and all the other homes and buildings. The most prominent building is Dr. Gunn's home near the beginning of the film on the hillside. My grandaunt Annie MacKinnon appears alongside her home on the road to Scotsville.

Back in the day, Wentworth Park had a lovely Small Bandshell, and in the 1960-s the Queen Mom visited, with her Husband, and She made an address from it. I was a very young child, but I remember the Excitement, after an attendance of Church, on a Sunday. It was a Lovely Sunmer-s day. Looks like the Halifax Public Gardens, but, really, here in Sydney, Cape Breton.
Easy to misinterpret. No harm done! MARJORIE

The bridge and bandstand seem to match, but the fountain does not.

I hope that people will collectively be able to fill in a lot of the blanks here ..Places & people? There seems to be a lot of the Margarees, Lake Ainslie, Possibly Inverness company houses leading to the water? There is a store at the 19 minute mark that says L.D. Cameron

The drop waist dresses, bobbed hair, cloche hats and the vehicles make me believe this is more likely the 1920s. At least for some of the footage.

Great video...I would love to see someone video a lot of these scenes/locations today, for a side by die comparison. Lots of land farmed in the old days...nothing grown anymore, everything brought in from the US or Mexico!

The church at 12:31 is similar to Sacred Heart in Johnstown.

My father, uncles, aunts and grandparents spoke Gaelic as their first language. We learned a bit as well and I promised my Dad I'd learn it. I went from George's River to Christmas Island Fire Hall twice a week for 2 yrs.I still go to St.Anne's Gaelic College on occasion as well. As they say, " if you don't use it. You lose it. "
