    Parts like these don't need to be back purged if you can control your heat and not burn the whole way through. It's a non-structural part, so the welds don't need to be super strong.
    Oil needs to be mixed with the gas on 2 stroke carbureted engines. With a flask like this, you can ride to the gas pump, fill the bike up with gas, and then add the proper amount of oil by measuring with the syringe.

      Hi Tony,
      This torch is a "Prostar 24" model. It's great for DC welding at low amperages. It doesn't have a back cap, the collet is tightened by tightening the collet body (gas lens). It's great for getting into tight places (I used to use it a lot for welding stainless exhaust headers), and it's nice and lightweight.
      (These parts you made fit perfectly, thanks again!)

    • @Broadpaw_Fox
      @Broadpaw_Fox 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It is. Titanium is actually rather dangerously flammable itself, if the right conditions are there. The dust is especially dangerous. And like any burning metal, you cannot put it out - class D fired are no joke. Do be careful if you ever work with titanium- know what the proper procedures are and follow them. :)

    This is weird..........stopped at a local welding supply shop, Lefeld Industrial & Welding Supplies Greenville, OH to look Milwaukee Fuel 18 cordless tools. As I was leaving I went over and looked at the welding and brazing equipment. Last time I tried welding was in high school. About the time you'd strike an arc some numb nut would reach underneath the welding booth and crank the dial to the max and throw the lever from low to high. So when you touched your welding project there was a small thermo nuclear explosion and your project was a molten blob below the grates. An hour after the welding store I suddenly come across your TH-cam video. Thought about welding or learning how when I was in the store. Been a long time since I tried welding. Graduated high school in '81.

    Nice work! The colouring gives it a nice look (although it hurts a bit to see welders intentionally provoke the formation of alpha case 🥴)

    • @paulcopeland9035
      @paulcopeland9035 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Why does it bother you?

    • @andreaslundback
      @andreaslundback 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      The nice blue colour is alpha case which is detrimental for the strength of the material and particularly the fatigue properties as it is prone to inducing cracks. Obviously, the flask isn’t a critical structural component. Just as 6061 pointed out in his video description. My comment was with “the glimpse in the eye” (at least that was my intention 😊). In aerospace business, blue colour = fail. Non structural components, blue(purple, pink tone) = nice and decorative 😄

    • @mikeford963
      @mikeford963 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@andreaslundback is that the case with Titanium? I know, as a welder, that steels and stainless' colours aren't great, but I wasn't sure about titanium, or inconel, monel, etc...

    I was thinking about making an oil sump and valve cover out of 0.5mm grade 5. I suppose it depends on design, but do you think it would distort too much upon welding. What you are welding here looks thicker, but it looks very stable compared to welding aluminium with regards to expansion. Have you made either of these out of titanium?

    I just recently watched video that said if your titanium changes color when welding is a bad thing it means your weld is to hot and you are burning the titanium. Is this true because I see these high end titanium exhausts that look amazing with a whole rainbow of colors. Just wondering. Edit: titanium handles extremely high temps really well also not a welding just a dabbler haven’t done any tug welding either just curious.
