The Silence of the Lambs is one of the most referenced films I've seen when we watch other films, Curtis had never seen it and always missed out on them; I got him to watch it so he can finally start to understand! Also, shout outs to our editor Eduardo who loves this movie, dude edited in the fastest time I've ever seen!

Wanna have your mind blown? When Hannibal meets Clarice, he shows off a drawing he made of the Belvedere in Florence. Where does Clarice find Buffalo Bill? Belvedere, OHIO. Hannibal knew from the VERY FIRST meeting what she wanted and where Bill was living. He wasn't just two steps ahead of her and everyone else. He was playing a whole different game and they never even realized it.

Yes, however most psychiatrists during this time and all the years prior did psychotherapy as well. It's only a recent phenomenon where psychiatrists have moved away from psychotherapy, and into almost exclusively writing prescriptions. This happened because of pharmaceutical companies ramping up their sheer numbers of medications to sell to doctors, and pumping out medications incredibly faster than they used to. It's a shame because psychiatrists have a much deeper understanding of the human brain, how our thoughts, behaviors, diets, medications, and beliefs impact our brains, and all are still taught psychotherapy in medical school. I was lucky enough to find a psychiatrist who still did psychotherapy and who knew a variety of methods (ACT, CBT, DBT, etc.). He was the single best therapist I've EVER had. He legitimately changed my life in ways that no other psychologist or therapist could ever do, and I'd been seeing therapists since I was 12. I'm now 36. Not ONE has had a fraction of the insight or expertise that the doctor had. I learned more from him in 2 months than other therapists taught me in 2 YEARS. I saw the doc for 4 years until Obamacare started, and he opted out of it. Every once in a while, I save up to go see him because it's that worth it. He's constantly researching the latest studies and breakthroughs in things like supplements, therapeutic techniques, diet, and even environmental adjustments to the clinical space (how the mind can be affected negatively or positively based on the way the office is set up). He's a legitimate genius. We need more doctors in general who are passionate and focused on patient wellness, vs. what new drugs can temporarily ease symptoms of a larger issue that they don't even try to address. If you can, find a psychiatrist who also practices psychotherapy.

Hannibal was giving them a clue when he said, "Love your suit" to the Senator. It was a double-meaning, actually. He was commenting on how put together she looked for someone whose daughter was kidnapped by a serial killer, but he was also subtly telling them what Buffalo Bill was doing with the skins. That was the key to catching him. When Clarice discovered that the first victim was a seamstress, that's what led her to Buffalo Bill.

  • @UncleMilo
    @UncleMilo 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +23

I mention this all the time with this film. One of my favorite moments is a tiny moment of acting by Anthony Hopkins in a scene that goes by VERY fast... but so much happens in it.
Clarice finally confesses her secret about the lambs to Lecter. Lecter, in appreciation of her honesty is about to tell her the information she needs to know, but at that exact second, he senses Chilton enter. At that moment... watch...
Lecter is furious that Chilton entered at a point when he was about to make good on his promise to Clarice.
Not wanting to reveal anything to Chilton he feels frustration because he can't make good on his promise and he then feels guilt about going against his own word after she had been so forthright and honest to him and then he is sad about the situation....
    and then he goes cold.
It all happens in a flash of an eye, but you see Hopkins going through a collection of emotions - anger, frustration, guilt, sorrow and then nothing... it's an amazing little moment filled with power.
Followed by that scene where he touches her finger... the closest we see Lecter being caring to ANYONE
So many great little moments in this movie - which is already a fantastic film.

"This movie changed my perception of the world forever, because before this movie, I didn't know that this type of killing, serial killing and all it entails, was a thing. That someone could kidnap another person then ritualistically take another human apart for their own gratification. This was also the last day I was actually scared of any classic horror film, because after this I knew that real monsters could be a neighbor or that quiet guy who lives down the street. You just never know. It's another reason why we should all just treat each other with common courtesy, because it could actually save your life.

    1. The lisping sound Hopkins makes after he says, 'I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti." is the first scene he and Foster did together and he wanted to freak her out, so her reaction is real.
    2. Ted Levine/Buffalo Bill was so disturbing that he received death threats after this was released.
    3. The FBI actually let them use their Quantico facility to film.
    4. In the book Crawford did have a "thing" for Clarice.
    5. "I'm coming to get you Murdock". The late Charles Napier/Lt. Boyle played Murdock in "Rambo First Blood II".
    6. Everybody is hitting on Clarice but IRL hitting on Foster is a waste of time and effort. She doesn't fly that way. She has been married to a woman since it became legal in Caliphony.
    7. In the book Crawford did have "a thing" for Clarice.
    8. Dr. Lecter was treating Clarice
    9. Others will pass this to you as well but: This movie won ALL 5 of the big Oscars.

Hannibal is absolutely a Psychiatrist because his character actually studies the science/causes behind the behaviors. A Psychologist wouldn't have been able to help the FBI build out a 'Profile.' They mostly focus on talk-therapy, whereas a Psychiatrist could tell you the traits that makeup a serial killer and how likely it is for them to be Black, White, Hispanic, etc.

You must watch the "Hannibal" series if you get a chance. It'a only 3 seasons. Such a great series with Hannibal, played by Mads Mikkelsen, thrown in the mix. Sooooooo good. Laurence Fishburne does a good job in his role as an FBI agent. The main character "Will" is played by Hugh Dancy. Excellent acting as well.
Here's the synopsis of the series from online,
"Gifted criminal profiler Will Graham has a unique way of thinking that allows him to empathize with anyone, including psychopaths. But while helping the FBI pursue a particularly complicated serial killer, he decides he could use some help and enlists the brilliant psychiatrist Hannibal Lecter. The two form a partnership and it seems that there is no villain they can't catch together, but Lecter harbors a dark secret. His own brilliant mind has gone to the dark side and he has more in common with the criminals they hunt than Will could possibly imagine."

Hannibal is the sequel to Silence of the Lamb. Julianne Moore plays Clarice Starling instead of Judy Foster. Red Dragon with Edward Norton is a prequel of Silence of the Lamb and is a remake of Manhunter (same story but with Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter).
Then there is Hannibal Rising with a young Hannibal Lecter and a TV series that falls before Red Dragon.

Some years ago, a friend of mine had won passes to a sneak peek midnight movie. It was "Silence of the Lambs". The theater was packed, the audience was screaming at all the right parts, and burst into laughter and applause on the "friend for dinner" ending. When the lights came up, they asked us to fill out opinion cards on what we thought of the movie. I gave it high star ratings, and my only comment was the night-vision basement goggles scene could have been a bit longer, because I was really on the edge of my seat.

Buffalo Bill’s case strikes a chord because it feels like it could be authentic. Because it is. His rouse of being injured to kidnap victims is reminiscent of Ted Bundy. And his uses of skin are based on the crimes of a man named Ed Gein. Ed had a very unusual relationship with his mom, which is said to have inspired the character of Norman Bates. Ed also had an interest in skin, and made a woman suit, made of actual women and including breasts, that he liked to put on (Ed is said to have been a very odiferous fellow by neighbors). He also made other items like a lampshade of skin, a belt made of human nipples, and soup bowls from skulls. He even upholstered a chair with skinned faces. He was found criminally insane. I really wonder what types of stuff he made during craft time at the asylum.
Curtis, you should definitely watch Mindhunter! It’s fascinating as it’s based on a real story, and the criminals portrayed are also real. Just don’t confuse Ed Kemper on the show with Ed Gein. 😆 Although both had interesting mom moments.
