JOHN & YOKO'S Real Estate Empire (Part 01)
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 31 ม.ค. 2024
- John Lennon and Yoko Ono's ability to afford a real estate empire can be attributed to several factors, primarily John Lennon's success as a musician and songwriter with The Beatles, one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed bands in the history of popular music. The Beatles' success generated significant income from record sales, concert performances, and merchandise, which continued to earn royalties long after the band stopped performing together. This wealth allowed Lennon and Ono to invest in various assets, including real estate.
Yoko Ono, an artist and musician in her own right, also contributed to their financial stability through her own work and investments. However, it was largely Lennon's financial resources that enabled their investments in real estate.
Their real estate portfolio included a range of properties across the world. One of their most famous properties was the Dakota apartment in New York City, where they lived from 1973 until Lennon's death in 1980. The Dakota is a historic, luxury apartment building known for its Gothic architecture and prime location overlooking Central Park.
In addition to their New York City apartment, Lennon and Ono owned properties in England, including Tittenhurst Park in Ascot, where the famous "Imagine" video was filmed, and various other properties in the United States and internationally. Their investments were not just limited to residential properties; they also included farm land and other types of real estate.
Their ability to afford and maintain this real estate empire was not just a matter of having the financial resources but also reflected their interests and lifestyle choices. The couple was known for their activism and philanthropy, and their properties often served as bases for these activities as well as personal retreats.
In summary, John Lennon and Yoko Ono's real estate empire was funded by the wealth accumulated through Lennon's career with The Beatles, his solo music career, and Ono's contributions from her artistic endeavors. Their investments in real estate reflected their financial success, as well as their personal and philanthropic interests.

All beautiful properties. It was stinky that John and Yoko couldn't have found it in their hearts to let Cynthia and Julian stay in that home.
Yoko is scum.
Agree.
I heard that Julian later did acquire some money from Estate and bought a home in Italy, but yes with all that money l agree Cynthia and Julian deserved better .
Julian and Sean should have been equally entitled. Yoko is greedy and odious. @@robertcartwright563
Ono seemed to be the one who called the shots as Lennon was not in the forefront conducting the business. One of the extra apartments in the Dakota was her office. But Ono did the same thing in ousting the Uncle who was the legal guardian of Lennon’s half Sisters. The Aunt had previously died so after Lennon died, she did not hesitate to get rid of the property. She reportedly first wanted to sell it, then it went to the Salvation Army. Lennon intended the house to be for his half Sisters but the house was never in any of their names nor the Aunt or Uncle of whom he said he was also indebted to for raising the girls. This was a very modest house not worth a ton so you would think she would have been a giving person & fixed it up & let the Uncle just stay there. Aunt Mimi, who raised Lennon, was also living in stress in her final years because the house Lennon bought her was also not in her name but miraculously wasn’t ousted from it. But imagine the stress Aunt Mimi went through in her old age not knowing exactly what would happen. No doubt Ono had some influence in selling the house John & Cynthia lived in. She thought nothing of wearing Cynthia’s robe in this very house when Lennon brought her there to the marital domain when Cynthia was on holiday. Cynthia came home early & witnessed this humiliation in her own home. I don’t know if they both had the same divorce lawyer or her lawyer wasn’t competent but Cynthia seemed to have gotten screwed big time. The laws in England no doubt differ from the States but you would think with a minor child, Cynthia would have been able to stay there.
With all they had, she should have made sure both sons were equally provided for when he passed.
What a nasty thing to do! Selling his first house out from underneath his wife and child, to run off with “the other woman”. Tough enough the son loses his father, but then to kick his own family out of the only house they knew, and take away the place of all their memories. Childhood home gone!
So much for all that talk of “peace and love”…
John and Yoko
they both
were a......s .
I'm sure Cynthia received a LOT of money to afford a REALLY nice place to live with Julian. Why would she want to live in the house with all the bad memories with John? I heard John was a brute in the early days....he even said it himself.
Mindless comment.
Ono did the same thing w/Lennon’s elderly Uncle who helped raise his half Sisters in ousting him from the house he bought for all of them. The house wasn’t in any of their names. I don’t know the details as to whether Cynthia would have stayed in that house-it’s probably mentioned in her books. I don’t think her settlement was that great considering Lennon was worth a ton.
I`m a fan off the Beatles, personally I believe John Lennon as a man , as a person , and as a father he fails in many ways. When the Fab Four just started , they were so close , so friendly and loving guys including John , but with the years to come , the large huge success especially Lennon develop a nasty and ugly personality problably generated by the addiction off the hard drugs , he bacame just a JUNKIE and by the end and finals days off the Beatles he went to many rehabilitation programs to DETOX, and his partnership with Yoko Ono make a real impact and changes thru the years NOT for good. His addiction with other reasons problably contributed to the total disolution off the gratest band in the las centuty , and the history of Rock and Roll .He was so UNFARE with his first son Julian the same way like his FATHER treat him when he was a child, leaving him whitout MONEY and protection, and the way he was with Cynthia , a very decent english lady was despicable .As a man, husband and father he DID`NT make a THE GRADE just in my point of view.
Imagine no possessions.
Never confuse rhe message with the messenger
Good one
john lennon has NO possessions, cuz he took NONE of them with him to wherever he is now. Too bad, so sad.
He stated that the beatles were more popular than God. NOT anymore they ain’t.
Life is short. God is eternal. Act accordingly.

"Money - that's what I want." - John Lennon
He sang it but he didn't write it. It was written by Berry Gordy & Janie Bradford. First released in 1959 by Barrett Strong.
@@CB-xr1eg Still it's kind of ironic when you consider they wrote All You Need Is Love and Money Can't Buy Me Love. However Taxman was a sign that they were concerned about money, at least Harrison. John is recorded early on saying "I want to be Rich" in an interview. But regardless of his personal life he did at least try to spread a message of peace and love.
@@whichgodofthousandsmeansno5306 Exactly, but to be fair, it was Paul who had written 'Can't Buy Me Love'.
Thinking of Julian❤
"... Imagine no possessions.... it's easy if you try....."
Gotta try pretty hard
Do as I say, not as I do.
That was the first thing I thought, too.
Many people would have greater respect for Lennon and "Oh No" is they had kept their big "preachy" mouths shut...and their cloths on.
He is a perfect example of a weak man who married an evil, manipulative woman. Never ends well.
It does seem hypocritical but at least he spread a good message regardless of being a POS in his personal life. He did say early on in an interview that he wants to be rich. And he did it.
Rich or poor we're only here for a little while. I can't imagine having that much wealth. I couldn't afford the heating bills at one of his homes lol. Thanks for sharing.
He had it for sixteen years, sixteen years out of Eternity.
John seems to be the last person to actually imagine no possessions.
Oh he could imagine it, he just couldnt do it, lol. The Brits cant resist all the that comes with artistrocracy, or even royality. Lennon and Harrison, as spiritual and enlightened at as they were, could have blazed a path to a life of modesty but they instead lead the world into a life of excess. They laid the foundation for the"greed is good" late 70s and 80s. I am not saying America super stars didnt do the same, but I was hoping for more from those Beatles - very disappointing because they were so exceptonal in so many other ways.
ridiculous. he was murdered for being "phoney" enough to imagine no possessions by a "christian". what was the guy supposed to do with that amount of wealth? it gave his wife something to do (multiplying it). if he was greedy he would have kept making records or would have reunited the beatles! i was hoping more from you (actually i wasn't).@@rideon6140

Paul McCartney & his Family did live a frugal ordinary life on a farm with no spiral staircases. Granted the property because of the acreage was worth alot, but the Family was raised in the most normal type environment. The few pictures of the inside of the house on the farm like the kitchen looked very modest & homey, not showy whatsoever.
the money he earned was invested in properties because that made more money than just leaving it in the Bank.
Imagine no possessions. LOL.
John Lennon may have been the greatest singing rhythm player in Rock and roll, ever., As a human being, he was less than perfect. Then, humans are not.
Yeah but money can’t buy you love.
Fabulous, just fabulous! This insight of the Lennon's properties is so comprehensive and so well done that I'm beyond impressed. Great job and thank you!
Really the man of no possessions who couldn't even leave his first son and his mother anything Yoko showed what she was making Julien go through court to get what he and his Mother were entitled to great musician but useless man he met his match in her
Lennon's estate, Weybridge, was purchased for $20k British Pounds, which was around $55,000.
When I see these large beautiful buildings first I think how beautiful they are and second I think who is going to clean and maintain them? I guess if you can afford one you can afford a staff to take care of it 😂
Of course the rich have hired help even with meal preparation & cooking. There are some exceptions where people like Suzanne Somers & her Daughter in Law prepared & cooked many a meal for the Family but no way did they clean their entire home themselves. It’s hard enough to clean a modest home let alone a mansion.
Then you have to find trustworthy staff given the level of fame etc
John and Yoko were far from being politically correct. They collected designer cattle, an expensive, bizarre avocation. Both liked to collect furs, especially Yoko. One of the Dakota apartments they bought had massive refrigerated storage to store their furs and had to be enlarged soon after the first one had been completed. Peta would have had a field day with these two!
True, Reportedly, many were unworn and still had the price tags attached.
whats 'political correctness' got to do with it? are you vegan or no different to them?
The Lennons also owned property on Prince Street in the Soho district of Manhattan. Yoko let her taro card reader, John Green, live in it while he was still in her favor.
no talent freak show lording people about. amazing.
She reportedly wanted to marry Samuel Green at one point, I think this was what prompted John & Yoko’s separation although Ono just said the separation was necessary because she was tired & needed a break. I never knew her tarot card reader was also named Green. Samuel Green was an American art curator.
I think it's stupid that you pretty much entirely neglect to mention May Pang living in the penthouse with him. And just dismiss her as some "companion". She was a very serious girlfriend of his, who he remained in contact with up until his death.
It is really bad that John didn't let Cynthia and Julian keep that house, for gosh sake Lennon was Ridiculously wealthy .Yoko also wouldn't let the house he bought for his Aunt Mimi to keep the house he bought for her but made the mistake of not ferrying it to her name so Yoko sold it out from under them
What a couple of schmuck!
Aunt Mimi was furious that the house was up in the air after Lennon died. Miraculously, Ono did not oust her from the home but Aunt Mimi no doubt endured great stress in her old age as it was said she was worried as to what would end up happening. Ono already ousted Lennon’s elderly Uncle who helped raise his half Sisters from a modest home not worth a ton after Lennon died. Lennon had bought that home for the benefit of his half Sisters but did also say he was indebted to the Aunt & Uncle for raising the girls. So it was reported she wanted to immediately sell it after Lennon died but it went to the Salvation Army.
Yoko seems very greedy
No, really???@@lavidadida
I wonder who helped them find and choose these properties.
I wonder if it was John or yoko that had an eye for the incredible value and beauty of these unique and gorgeous places.
I wish Julian and his mother had been gifted that house they had been living in.
It’s so degenerate of John Lennon to push aside Julian and his mother.
I like the Roman influenced building with the horse head.
The Dakota is such a jewel.
It’s wood carvings are so ornate.
The Palm Beach estate is an incredible property.
The Dakota didn’t seem homey to me from pictures but to each, their own
It would have been decent of yoko to have given a home to Cynthia and Julian
Lennon was still alive at that period so it was his fault for not providing more to Cynthia & Julian house & monetary wise. He supposedly told Cynthia during the divorce she was not worth getting more in the settlement. After all her loyalty before & after The Beatles that was a dirty, rotten, filthy thing to say.
AT 12:44 into this video - - the reason John and Yoko did not want to live there is that even tho there was a wrap around porch -it meant that there was NO PRIVACY from all the other buildings that were next to each side of that apartment -
I love your content! Wish you had given a current day value on all the properties.
And I respectfully ask that you don’t tell me what to eat and I will respect your food choices.
Than for listening to the end. Not everyone does. I appreciate your kind words.
Lovely video of the amazing homes owned by John Lennon. Hard to believe he died 44 yrs. ago. Dearly missed the world over.
Happy 91st Birthday
Yoko Ono
⚡️February 18th⚡️
I was the pool cleaner at John’s home in Palm Beach from September of 1980 until his death in December. Never got to meet him because he was due to come in for a few months in February 1981 but was assassinated on Dec 8, 1980. I did see Ringo and Yoko there in January of 1981 I assume preparing for sale of the Home..
Stunning and fascinating properties
"imagine no possessions I wonder if you can "
His vault at Gringgotts must be massive.
Sad how Cynthia and Julian were treated by both John and the second wife
Oh yes that's all glossed over his son Julien had to take Yoko to court to get what he was entitled to as his son Of course Saint John never made provision for him or his Mother Yoko hope all your money makes you happy rode on the back of his talent The other members of the band who are still alive should write a book about her but they were decent unlike Lennon
seeing as cynthia spent her entire life cashing in on john lennons name- i dont think so.
@StrangeHistoryX I get completely lost in these videos....you have a great style and never hurry the essence of taking in the sites and stories. Thank you
Awesome video Scott very fascinating you nailed this one
Beautifully done, sir. But I'm left dying of envy ;)
Really enjoy all The Beatles content, especially the photo analysis and inside of their homes. Lots of John and George, even Ringo gets a couple but will you ever cover any of Paul’s homes? Cavendish, Peasmarsh, High Farm in the Mull of Kintyre.
I would love it if Boris Karloff were my neighbor. Thanks for posting Strange History X. If I had 9 million, I wouldn't spend it on a NYC rowhouse. Just sayin'. Cheers! 🥨
Yes, uninviting conditions at the Dakota despite its history & outside ornamentation. Not a comfortable & warm setting from the photos. I guess it depends on how it’s decorated as well but having no yard & living in a prestigious high rise is not my cup of tea.
It's a good investment though. My mom made a fortune flipping in Manhattan. But it's not a place for everyone, that's for sure.
@@revrotunda3206 The Dakota had a huge courtyard.
Not to mention Central Park right across the street. That is a big part of what makes living there so desirable.. but very expensive as well.
Pobre Julian sin padre, sin herencia todo para Yoko y Sean 😡😡
Also, they bought an old plantation house in Gloucester County Virginia in 1972.
Your mastery of real estate styles and facts is really good, congrats!
Really nice projects in the end
He didn’t deserve what happened to him. Sad.
I miss John Lennon. ☮️💟

Imagine no possessions...
Is so sad that with all of John’s wealth he could have been a lot more generous with his first wife Cynthia n their son Julian but then again he was under the spell of Yoko Ono !
Under her spell rubbish he met his Soulmate too selfish people together except Lennon had talent and Yoko well she had talents in other areas
it's sad to think how much influence yoko had over john
Stop making excuses for John Lennon he was a genius but not a nice man He treated his first wife and son disgracefully He with all his millions could have made sure his son his own flesh and blood and his Mother what they deserved Man of the people my arse He met his match in Yoko a control freak with as much compassion as he had

OUTSTANDING! Thanks so much for this great posting. You did your homework, and it speaks volumes. Please continue your great work.
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
You may say I'm a bullshitter
But I'm not the only one
Well, he imagined it in song or should it be said Ono did but they weren’t about to live like paupers. The other Beatles were raised in the poor section of Liverpool or living in counsel houses which is the equivalent to America’s public housing but Lennon never lived in that socio economic category even as a child & Ono came from an influential Family. But all of a sudden, 50+ years later, Ono has received writing credits to Imagine as it was said she contributed to much of the songs lyrics.
shows limited your intellect is. The context of the line john lennon sung about ''imagine no possessions'' was also in regards to there being no countries and a brotherhood of man- countries are corporate bodies that steal resouirces and hold them to ransom. are you seriously suggesting that anyone who opposes capitalism should therefore be homeless and own nothing?
Thank you for this video. This is the first time I saw photos of Kenwood and the East side penthouse. I think that the penthouse was a bit nicer than the Dakota.
The Dakota was not inviting, warm & comfortable in my opinion from all the photos I’ve seen. Even Lauren Bacall’s apartment looked cold & she kept everything orderly.
Unbelievable that Julian & Cynthia couldn’t stay in their home in Surrey. Why not?
Thanks for sharing this.
"Imagine no possessions - I wonder if you can." Lennon mastered irony.
Well, maybe he was “imagining” but didn’t say he was going to live modestly & or certainly had no intentions of doing so.
In my experience people by big properties to isolate themselves from the rest of us. These multiple roomed, huge properties are often souless and unwelcoming. It's my belief that when the Japanese woman came into Mr Lennon's life she had a negative effect upon him and all around him.
Nobody would know her name and John might still be alive today had their paths not crossed.
Such a trail of destruction was left by that talentless woman.
They say behind every successful man is a good woman, that lady was Cynthia Lennon.
John never had a funeral as such, after he was murdered by the madman ,Yoko ono had him cremated 2 days later. despite knowing he wanted to be buried ,she denied johns ex wife Cynthia a place at his ceremony.
That's a very cold-hearted thing to do.
funny how john lennons best work was his solo material... written long-after he had ditched cynthia.
Impressive
Well said! I never noticed it before but when you see John in his early years with the Beatles he was healthy and vibrant. After Yoko came into the picture he looked more and more emanciated - he was so thin and frail looking with that long stringy hair and his addictions didn't help, which eventually affected his music too.
You have to wonder if his life would have been better with someone else.
The East Side Penthouse and the Long Island property are beautiful in their own different ways. One the epitome of city living, with fantastic views the other rural and coastal. The Dakota on the other hand gives me the creeps. Too Gothic, too sinister. I don't know how Yoko could continue to live there after John's assassination.
Awesome.
I read May Peng's description of the “penthouse “ as a modern apartment ($700), so the luxurious apartment you have shown must be entirely enlarged and renovated. Anyhow, it can be verified.
Yoko was, is, a brilliant businesswoman. She realized that real estate and land were the way to go with investments.
I passed up a couple of lots in Houston in the late 70s that were only $1000 each. So, my BF bought them. He told me in 2006 that he sold them, still vacant lots, for $40.000 each. Holy cow, what a stupid decision I made not to buy them. The only money he had to put into them was paying taxes every year.
Working Class Hero

Thanks!
Thank you for your generous Super Thanks. That was very kind of you.
Thanks.😊

Recently (last 10 years?) Sean and Julian have gotten together where a small bit of all this wealth was being given to Julian per Sean (v. Yoko). I haven't heard how it turned out. Perhaps GOOGLE knows??😮
There was an undisclosed settlement between Ono & Sean after many years of litigation. Ono was reportedly advised to end it by lawyers but no doubt would have continued if she could have gotten away with it. What was decided by Sean, I’ve never heard of that story. Sean is reportedly in charge now so hopefully he’ll do the right thing in regard to Julian when Ono dies. Julian never did get all of what was rightfully his & had to spend what he did get to buy back his Father’s personal items. Julian is not lacking money wise, but did get short changed in what should have been rightfully his.
Every time I hear a narrator of a Beatles video say something like "one of the most successful bands..." I know I'm listening to someone who is young and who just does not get it.
Good news: My videos are "evergreen" which means they aren't just means to be watched today, but long in the future. So it's important to remind people. Some people today probably never knew Lauren Bacall and Errol Flynn were once incredibly famous, for example.
I couldn’t imagine having a mansion! But,you’d have to have a lot of money 💰 to live there! And,living in New York City 🌆 would be difficult 😞 to live in without a lot of 💰 money! This is the same with Des Moines,Iowa, too! It’s hard to have an affordable home to live in!
Yeah but it's nice to dream lol.
Well, because of interest rates & the economy, average people can’t buy a house for the most part. Canada has also gouged its citizens so they can’t afford to buy homes either. Regular ordinary modest homes are overpriced in most areas of the States.
He had a Penchant for Sailboats too, having over thirty.
@4:12 Pretty much sums it up..
Any for Julian ???
Hell no
lol that palm beach house is ridiculous for 3 people
The Artists renderings with the coins and cash around are awful
Some people just have far too much of what many have nothing of . . .

Tittenhurst Park is my favourite home, looked best when he had it, now its changed alot :{

Did anyone live in these properties when J&O were elsewhere? How much poverty for others could have been alleviated
My best friend and I are both 65. A few days ago we were talking about various celebrities and got to talking about Lennon. The older we get, the more we realize what an utter hypocrite he was.
Singing about having no possessions while wallowing in luxury.
P.S. The houses he owned were beautiful.
Imagine All the people sharing All their Real Estate 😂😂😂
Imagine
You first said that Tittenhurst was on Sunninghill then in Ascot but the real place of Tittenhurst is Sunningdale as it was shown written in your video. Sunningdale is the smallest town of that area, then comes Sunninghill where Sarah Ferguson (Prince Andrew's ex wife) Princess Caroline of Monaco and Bianca Jagger lived. Then comes Ascot with its world famous race course Royal Ascot and where Queen Noor of Jordan lives. After Ascot is Bracknell where the market and shopping centre is an it is where the transistor was invented. Nowadays Tittenhurst is owned by an Arab Sheikh who torn down Tittenhurst's wooden fence and put a brick wall instead which neighbours say it cost more than the mansion. Tittenhurst was painted yellow and it is adorned with Islamist art, the white piano of the Imagine video was totally broken and destroyed as well as the recording studio,
The Greenwich Village Apt is the place where his neighbors sued Sean about that tree. They are the parents of the actor Marisa Tomei.
Dakota is the same word as Lakota, the Indian tribe. North and South Dakota are anmed after the tribe that lived there.
All you need is love
Where did all that money come from? Yes, I know about the Beatles. But I was under the impression that they had signed away the publishing rights to their music and received a paltry percentage of the records sales(?) It’s quite something that the author of “Baby, You’re a Rich Man” had a taste for aristocratic Tudor style mansions on expansive groomed estates and insane upper east side penthouse suites with killer panoramic views of the East River - cool enough to attract a fly by of a UFO! (I wonder if they took a snapshot of John looking up to show their friends and family back in Andromeda?) What could the rent have been for that penthouse at the South Gate?
He bought Tittenhurst because it reminded him of Calderstones house.
"Imagine no possessions, it's easy if you try"....
Pffft...Lol!
Not bad hoses not bad
I like the first palace.. oops..place
Why was the estate owned by Yoko Ono and the late John Lennon in Mathews County, Va. USA omitted from your video?
Real estate empire and John's son Julien still had to take her to court to get his deserved inheritance as his son I blame Lennon for this he never made a will to make sure his son was provided for Greedy woman shows her true character how much money does one woman need
What about Julian Did he inherit anything from his Dad ?
Not directly as Ono handled his will & all that. Julian was in litigation w/Ono in regard to the Lennon estate for like a decade where it was said lawyers advised Ono to end this. Julian’s exact settlement was not disclosed but it was still lacking in comparison to what he probably should have received & Julian had to use much of that money to buy back his Father’s belongings & other personal items Ono put at auction instead of just dividing it amongst both Sons where the Sons could have just decided in regard to John Lennon’s effects.
