That damage was caused by a poorly maintained engine. The cooling fins were completely clogged which caused the cylinder head to overheat which caused the guides to walk out.
People have no idea how much heat a dirty greasy air cooled engine retains. Those metal air shields must be removed once every season, the block degreased, shields washed and cleaned also. It’s just a fact of ownership with these mowers, also fix any oil leaks that caused a dirty engine to begin with. After every use I use my corded blower to remove as much debris from the mower and mower deck as possible.
Are Kawasaki 15, 17,19 hp engines the same except for the carburetors? I have a FH430...I wonder what larger engines are the same inside. I'm using a carb from a 17 hp
I have a toro z master with a Kawasaki 19 horsepower and its wore out but a have a craftsman riding lawnmower with a good 24 horsepower v twin Briggs and Stratton do you think it will fit??
The video is good information, but please find something to mount the camera too. I ended up with a headache we it all the movements. Very hard to follow.
looks like the guy who owned it just ran it, and put it away. Never thought to himself, Hey Maybe I should clean the fins on the head so it won't overheat. Nice thing is, as long as people like that exist, you won't run out of work! I check mine every spring to be sure that fluffy the mouse hasn't built a nest on the engine block, or in the air box over the winter.
Nice video, Is that mower a bobcat if so how do you like it? I am looking forward to seeing a rebuild of the old kawi. I have a 17HP sitting in the garage that I need to do. You should flip those rear tires on the rim so the bald spots are on the outside. What was wrong with the mower that you pulled the engine from?
mine just wont stay running i got a 17hp that only stays running with choke on. i wanna do a swap to a 23hp from a cubbcudat both engines are kholers. what do you think on that
I have a 2007 Lesco, 25hpKaw., I have replaced 3 different pulleys from the deck, and now the brake clutch just failed, and I lost the lower pulley from the clutch. They want $560.00just for the brake clutch....I like the mower, but its diming me to death and only has 130 hrs on it. Anyway, great vid.
Sounds like you got a lemon I have an 06 lesco z two with the 23hp kawasaki I use commercially and for the most part its been pretty reliable the motor has been perfect, it currently has about 1400hrs I bought it with 500hrs
Hi. Thanks for this video it was very informative. I wonder if you can help. I have a Ferris IS1000z with a blown motor (model FH641V) do you know if I can swop it out for a Model FS481V engine? Ferris have not been very helpful with this. Thank you for any help you can give me. Regards.
man help me out..I dissasembled ans fs730v and neglected looking ath the camshaft crankshaft correlation..how putting it together..cant find a way to time it...any light ?
Dude invest in an air compressor and blow that mountain of grass out after every use blocking the cooling fins from getting air kills these engines when it gets to hot metal changes shape components lose tolerance and we'll ..boom! 😆
That was 1 of 14 mowers I bought from an out of business lawn care company. Needless to say, they weren't very well maintained. I made 6 good mowers from the lot, sold 4, and scrapped the rest. All in all it made me quite a bit of cash
KAWASAKI IS THE WORST COMMERCIAL ENGINE, OVERHEATS, BLOWS HEAD GASKETS, BURNS OIL, WEAK ON POWER, AND HAS SO MANY MORE PROBLEMS. They don't honor their 3 year warranty.
Must only be the air cooled engines. I’ve never had any major problems with the water cooled engines. In fact I just swapped a 20 hp FD620d onto my Grasshopper last year. Before that I had it on an old Gravely tractor. Been a good engine for me. The ones they used on the Deere tractors were pretty good engines too. Lots of times the engines will outlast the tractors! Biggest issue I was ever aware of with the water cooled engines was with the plastic cam gears used on the early FD620. Deere warranteed a lot of those on the 425 and a front mount mower ( can’t remember the model). Replaced them with an all steel cam. No problems after that. Haven’t had much experience with the air cooled twins.
Real Simple i have an air cooled v twin Kawasaki 23 ho on my cub cadet. Runs like a top and has never let me down. I mow 8 acres every 2 weeks. I do regular maintenance. I’d say it’s better thank kohler or Briggs. Been a dependable work horse.

HOW MANY HOUERS ? ON IT AND IS IT FX OR FS OR FR MODOL
Is there a kit to change from a kawasaki fx651v engine to a kohler cv25s (wire harness adapter and muffler kit to make it work

Had something like this happen on a John Deere garden tractor. Decided to swap over to a Briggs Vanguard
When you swapped, did you have to change everything, like the wiring harness, stitches, voltage regulator, and whatnot ?

Phil McAthey all depends on the output shaft. If it's the same diameter and length, I think it'll work fine
thanks for the very quick reply! I will check the shaft diameters. Cheers.
Were you found the motor i need same motor thanks
Local dealership
Great video!
Thank you!

How's the bobcat running?
The Bobcat is running awesome! I use it at least 3 times a week and it hasn't missed a beat.
at 40.00 and hour labor rate you saved yourself a pile of $$$$
so its hard to rewire??
no, not at all. very easy and straight forward
Fitz's Fixes I have a scag With a kawasaki v twin And it runs like crap, it runs on one cylinder. It is a walk behind

Put the Kohler KT725 Engine in problem solved
I was running this when She quit. Doesn't like Me.
I over heated
This is why I use my air compressor to blow the engine off.
I’m trying to understand how the hell the engine got so nasty, I mean that thing looks like shit,

Real Simple I believe you. I already bought 2 mower with a Kawasaki engines and they are piece of shit and expensive to fix. They lose power

i put 100+ hours on my 23hp kawasaki each summer and it has never let me down and runs very smoothly always starts first crank
You're crazy. Kawasaki engines are superior.
