This is the problem with modern society...or, actually, the cure, I guess. This may be dangerous. It may be reckless. It allows the human condition to be alive, though. You want to go out, and go as fast as you can, on a road with very few safety measures? Go for it! Up to you and your risk level. We've managed to 'cotton ball' society and this is one of the last bastions of 'Do as you please, just don't blame us for your choices.'

I have followed motor cycle racing for almost fifty years but I can never understand the desire to race on closed public roads and particularly this place where it is 37 miles long. MotoGP's number one priority is safety so all the tracks they visit are vetted and improved upon year on year. Consequently serious and fatal accidents have reduced despite increases in speed. The same cannot be said of the TT. The simplest of mistakes at the TT can lead to consequences out of all proportion to the mistake.
I have raced at the TT. If you don't understand it, no problem, not many people do. But all road racers ask is that no one tries to ban it. We know and understand the risks. We don't need saving from ourselves. If others who don't understand it are happy to just leave road racers to get on with it, then all is good.
@ I have known many Scottish riders who have raced and won at the TT including Hislop who told me that the bikes were too fast for the course and that was thirty years ago. I do understand the challenge of riding at the TT and perhaps it is because the course never really gets any safer. The only other point I would make is that it doesn’t do motorcycle racing in general any favours because each year we hear of more fatalities because people equate racing at the TT with MotoGP which clearly they are not. I have no desire to see it banned however it has sadly cost the lives of too many good lads such as Roy Anderson, Phil Mellor and Steve Henshaw.
Yeah, anyone feigning righteousness in thinking the TT should be banned needs to have that conversation with Michael Dunlop…. He has lost his father AND brother to road racing, yet he STILL suits up and races… and WINS. Explain to him why what he does should be banned.

I'm an Aussie. I'm almost 28 years old. I was born on February 6 1997.
I live in Melbourne in Australia AKA the land down under.
I am the biggest fan of IMSA and the WEC in the land down under too. I've been into IMSA for 21 years now.
And I love it.
It's actually my favourite motorsport nowadays along with the World Endurance Championship AKA WEC and MotoGP & the 24 Hours Of Le Mans.
Back in the day, I used to be into all motorsports, but not anymore.
It's been like that for the last 12 years also.
My favourite IMSA season is every single one of them.
From the classic original IMSA from 1971 to 1998 and new IMSA from 2014 onwards.
My favourite races in IMSA are the Daytona 24 Hours, the 12 Hours Of Sebring and of course the Watkins Glen 6 Hour held at The Glen.
My favourite World Endurance Championship or WEC for short is every single one from 2012 to present day.
Watkins Glen AKA The Glen in Upstate New York, where they make steamed hams, is the best race track in the United States of America.
Also, Francios Cevert is the greatest French person of all time, apart from Rene Arnoux, Alain Prost, and Albert The 5th Musketeer AKA Albert De Parmagnan.
And also, 1989 is the best Le Mans ever, along with 1965, 1966, 1967, 1969, 1970, 1981, 1994 and 1995.
The Le Mans 24 Hours is my favourite race of the year and my favourite sporting event of the year too.
Le Mans is my favourite race track in the world along with The Glen AKA Watkins Glen and Bathurst.
Jim Clark and Ayrton Senna are two of my favourite drivers of all time.

Not crazy! I raced there in 2012 and 2013. It's very calm, very composed and you race with your brain fully engaged.
This is the problem with modern society...or, actually, the cure, I guess. This may be dangerous. It may be reckless. It allows the human condition to be alive, though. You want to go out, and go as fast as you can, on a road with very few safety measures? Go for it! Up to you and your risk level. We've managed to 'cotton ball' society and this is one of the last bastions of 'Do as you please, just don't blame us for your choices.'

I have followed motor cycle racing for almost fifty years but I can never understand the desire to race on closed public roads and particularly this place where it is 37 miles long. MotoGP's number one priority is safety so all the tracks they visit are vetted and improved upon year on year. Consequently serious and fatal accidents have reduced despite increases in speed. The same cannot be said of the TT. The simplest of mistakes at the TT can lead to consequences out of all proportion to the mistake.
I have raced at the TT. If you don't understand it, no problem, not many people do. But all road racers ask is that no one tries to ban it. We know and understand the risks. We don't need saving from ourselves. If others who don't understand it are happy to just leave road racers to get on with it, then all is good.
@ I have known many Scottish riders who have raced and won at the TT including Hislop who told me that the bikes were too fast for the course and that was thirty years ago. I do understand the challenge of riding at the TT and perhaps it is because the course never really gets any safer. The only other point I would make is that it doesn’t do motorcycle racing in general any favours because each year we hear of more fatalities because people equate racing at the TT with MotoGP which clearly they are not. I have no desire to see it banned however it has sadly cost the lives of too many good lads such as Roy Anderson, Phil Mellor and Steve Henshaw.

Yeah, anyone feigning righteousness in thinking the TT should be banned needs to have that conversation with Michael Dunlop…. He has lost his father AND brother to road racing, yet he STILL suits up and races… and WINS. Explain to him why what he does should be banned.
