Thanks for the vid. Do you ever get times when the tape crinkles or shrinks over night? And would you ever spray over the pinstriping with clear lacquer?
I’ve been on a 3 hr TH-cam binge on how to do a two tone paint job for my project and this video just popped up in the suggested list. 😂 I couldn’t not get you a view. I think i might be biting off more than I can chew with the two tone and pin stripes.... but I’m hard headed... good video.. btw companies make a spool you can put the pin stripe tape spools on, which makes applying it easier. Look into it next time!
@@KeepOnWrenching its all rattle.... I don’t want to buy an air compressor for something so small. I will eventually because eventually I want to learn air brush.
Some times I take a photo of the side of the tank with my I-phone , transfer the photo to Adobe Illustrator and draw the pin stripe or graphic over the photo and then print the drawing on paper for a pattern or print the graphic on water slide decal paper and apply it to the tank and clear coat it.
@@KeepOnWrenching cool. Yeah I'm going to try doing that on my tank and I was wondering about clear coating and afterwards too but we'll see if it stands up to the weather and then if we have to we can redo it.
I don't know dude, you get an A for effort but that's not a very straight or professional looking stripe job to be honest, I CERTAINLY would have not left on that part where it was stretched out. Not trying to be a dick, you seem like a nice guy!
Brian this is yet again another example of you making everything seem so easy and doable for each and every one of us thank you it looks beautiful
Thanks, Richard. It was much more forgiving than I anticipated. Could be a lot of fun with some more practice.
That is a very good tutorial, I was keen to see laying the curve. Thanks.
That was literally my first time even trying. I can see how you could get really good with some practice.
Thanks redoing my dad's 1972cl350 repainted gas tank can't wait to finish I was last one to ride it1985at age25npw will be 64 and enjoying
Good luck. I hope it turns out well.
Thanks for the helpful pinstripe video, I'm new to the process myself and plan to try my first today on my helmet.
My pleasure. That was my first go at it too.

Totally inspiring! You gave me the confidence to try this! Thank you
Would love to see what you come up with. Good luck.
Actual pin striping starts at 7:07. Your welcome.

Two tone?! Next level for sure. That’s very brave. I don’t believe in guns. I heard they kill people. Killing people is bad. :/

That’d be sweet. I wish I had illustrator!
I was here! lol Bike is looking good Brian. Keeponwrenching my friend. :)
Keep on wrenching, bro!
Thanks for the tips. It helped me a lot.
Great to hear!
You need to have this bike ready for the distinguished gentleman ride in late May.
Not a bad goal!
ooo la la---the tank looks sa-weet!
Thanks, Les!
Always impressive
So Brian did you put on the pinstripe after the clear coat?
Yeah. It was an afterthought. I could have striped then cleared it. Was thinking about clearing it again but not sure it’d be worth the trouble.

I cleared the red 72. I’m kinda with ya in seeing how it holds up.
What did you use for pinstriping?
I purchased some from Amazon. Not the ultra cheap stuff tho. Tons of colors and widths.
Or just trace your first side with tracing paper, cut it out and flip it over, and viola, you have a template for the other side...
Good point. Lol
I wager $100 that thin spot will haunt Brian until he has to redo it.
LOL. It’s part of the story now tho!
Clear coat it and it wont
From what I understand, soon as you get gas on the decal, you have trouble with the pin stripe staying
No problems so far. But I’m super careful not to dump gas everywhere.
I thought this was jack black doing a pinstripe tutorial
Lol people keep saying that!

Lol. Totally hear ya. This was my first stab at it. For what it is it’s fine for me. Easy to redo! Thanks so much.
So eyeball it. Gee thanks.
Pretty much.
Yeah we can manage eyeballing
Not impressed
That’s ok.
