At 54:55 I believe the Niv actually goes back under her control since a "Gain control" effect was used and that gain control part just ends. If anything else like a bribery was used it woumd exile since there was no "gain control" effect
When a player leaves the game, all cards they own and control leave the game as well. Rather than Niv being exiled, it goes to the command zone since it is a commander.
Vilhelm Elofsson I guess there was a rules change at some point then. Because it used to not matter how you had it, just everything you controlled left the game as well.

Alex Young yep, I forgot it
BRAWL!!! Thank you for featuring this format for the episode!! I’ve already watched it twice!! Next to Commander it’s my favorite way to play MTG & how I’ve introduced two players to the world of Magic & Commander!! Man, I’d love to play this on MTG Arena!!
@@papernes I understand it going to the command zone but if you check out magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/multiplayer-rules-2004-07-12
Then you can see that sine ot was a "Gain control" effect niv should just go back under her control and not to the command zone
Vilhelm Elofsson I guess there was a rules change at some point then. Because it used to not matter how you had it, just everything you controlled left the game as well.
You should invite Commander's Quarters onto the show.
Mitch would destroy them with budget options
wayfarer's bauble is too much to handle
Only took them a year, but they did it!
Cedric was such a fun guest! I hope you have him back.
i love how jimmy said theres over 30 planeswalkers excitedly and only 2 out of 4 players use planeswalkers as commanders
And how Jimmy was on Roalesk, but still, he has a point
Niv-Mizzet returns to Emma's board when Jimmy leaves. The change control effect ceases to exist and Niv returns to last controller, if any, or is exiled, if there wasn't any before (in case of something like Bribery).
Might have been a different game...
I’m pretty sure that only happens if the control is due to an enchantment or other permanent
Rule 800.4a say "every control effect end". So it should go back to her board
@@diamondaries9966 Gather Specimens, Bribery, Commandeer, and Hostage Taker are all exceptions, because they involve zone changes, but Entrancing Melody and Mass Manipulation are simple "control effects", which end when the player controlling the effect dies
Thebluedragon98 is correct. Rule 800.4a applies to effects that grant you control for as long as the effect remains like mind control and act of treason. Entrancing Melody is a one-shot effect, not a continous or temporary one, and is therefore unafffect by that rule.
@@JmLyan It still a control changing effect that can be ended. The gathere of the card itself point it out that in a multiplayer game the control will end. The fact that it has not a determined end dont change that the card has a previous controler and the game will check it. Again, its on the card gathering so it should not be a inssue
Has anyone noticed the copious amounts of salt on the unstable box behind them when theyre talking nice touch game knights respec
I loved seeing someone trans in such a big Magic channel. She said she was from Tolarian and I kinda really respect them now. The Magic community has welcome us trans people with open arms and to see you two, Josh and Jimmy, defend her in the comments and welcome her so easily is a huge relief. I admire you and this show so much (my friends and I now play commander all the time!) and to know you're so accepting of us? Too good.
Thanks for all the work you put into this show. Thanks giving us such a wild, free experience. And thanks for making LGBT+ magic players like me and so many others feels welcome. You're amazing.
I love that you give brawl another shot. It also showcases more of the cards of the newer sets then a normal commander game would
Cedric reminds me so much of the man who taught me magic personality wise. It brings so much nostalgia. I was taught magic during war of the spark era by a retired CO officer, he had that same smile and laugh. Even the same sense of humor. His name was Wendell, such a wise man but I moved away and lost contact. I miss you, Wendell, and I wish I could play magic in Bogarts like we used to:(
Brawl is a sweet format. I love these episodes because it’s something that combines standard and commander my favorite formats! Great episode and thanks for making great content!
Thanks for the video, I enjoy you guys’s games, I know you guys are getting a lot of flak, but I just enjoy watching you guys play!
“Everyone is playing a new planeswalker commander today.”
New guest: Imma break the rules boii
jimmy didn't play a planeswalker friend
so excited to watch this 1 hour long advertisement!
How many of us forgot Brawl was a format until this came out?
The majority i'd say
I have never had so much fun watching tabletop magic as I have watching this channel. You guys rock!
Who from wizard's of the coast corrupted you to promote brawl????
Gavin Verhey
Everyone: Lets have fun
Josh: no
LRR said on one of their commander streams Josh is not someone that's fun to play with
@@hollis756 Oh? How so?
combo... i guess?
The best part about this episode was the animation on the pupper on Jiang’s card...
*goes to comments to comment on that tense clutch ending and overall exciting game
*sees a bunch off people whining that it isn't commander
Why am I always surprised by this?
At first I was disappointed they were playing Brawl but after watching the video kudos. Plus, it's free content that they work very hard to provide us, so let's be thankful even if you're disappointed it's not commander
I LOVE these shows, i got into magic, but never got into CEDH, i think i will now because of how immensely fun it looks, i am 14 years old and have been playing since the M20 Prerelease events. I just asked my dad to let me become a patron and i am signing up as i am typing this comment. Keep up the amazing work, and keep the amazing content rolling 😁😁😁😁
You guys should do an oathbreaker episode
Kaya Walsh this please!
Amen!
I honestly thought this would be the oathbreaker episode. After all, no better time for it.
That is, if WotC sponsors them to do one. Otherwise, not likely
Twisted Fate maybe for extra turns? if that show isn’t dead....i hope not i liked those videos the decks seemed more powerful
@The Command Zone 37:23 Evolution Sage (3/2) + 2 +1/+1 counters = 5/3?
Shawn Karber yeah I was wondering about that myself lol.
Cedrics reaction when Star of Extinction was played is priceless XD
Just yelling NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
K brawl is cool, but when are we gonna see Oathbreaker 😍
ForeverLaxx coming from somebody who actually has played oathbreaker before, it's a ton of fun.
Looks fun. If we get a game knights going on it, my friends might actually want to build it. Right now I'm the only one interested
When Oathbreaker isn't a broken format with loose rules. So, probably never.
War of the spark is so dope. That's just the truth.
Brawl is a bad format though, just the truth
I do like war of the spark, this is indeed a good set
You know, when Jimmy did the too doodle oo Zelda noise I had to laugh! They make these games fun to watch.
Dang, I did not expect that ending. That being said, woot woot! My favorite card from WotS representing!
What, Kiora?
@@YourCrazyOverlord I bet it's Teferi's Time Twist.
@@WhiteWizard42 Or Niv Mizzet?
Niv can't grab tri+ colored cards like Zacama (your example in the intro).
It could be used outside of narrow cEDH if it were though!
Matthew Jennings Niv Mizzet stragety is to ramp into big cards. That’s the first part of the deck. Which isn’t a bad idea
@@Tuturial464 I mean, I understand that ramp and card draw are good things, but a 2 colored cards 5 color deck is pretty awkward. A gold colored deck would already be restriction enough
I love that for the animation for River's Rebuke you masked out the phone so the water only covered the playmat. Small details like this are what makes this such a well put together show.
Just a quick rules call, the Mizzet should have returned under Emma's control after Jimmy died as stated in:
800.4a When a player leaves the game, all objects (see rule 109) owned by that player leave the game and any effects which give that player control of any objects or players end. Then, if that player controlled any objects on the stack not represented by cards, those objects cease to exist. Then, if there are any objects still controlled by that player, those objects are exiled. This is not a state-based action. It happens as soon as the player leaves the game. If the player who left the game had priority at the time he or she left, priority passes to the next player in turn order who’s still in the game.
Devoting an hour of my life to watching brawl, I’m good.
Love that you’re playing brawl! Much more fun to see so many new cards rather than just another Commander game with new commanders.
Shoulda done Oathbreaker instead.
or, you know, played fucking EDH.
THIS COMMENT.
THE TRUTH.
No! But that doesn’t encourage people to just get standard cards!
This instead of brawl. But EDH preferably.
Wait are the card sound effects from the Shandalar MTG PC card game? They sound very similar
After watching everything of Command Knights, and going back to these older episodes, I miss when they built decks like these instead of playing only with precons
that kayas wrath was the worst boardwipe my eyes ever witnessed
ya as she did it i just thought: i hope she loses! it was just stupid
Welcome to the worst board wipe in the history of recorded magic, folks.
I think this was my favorite episode ever. Great demo of the new cards. Cedric and Emma had amazing plays. Josh had best mat ever. Jimmy. Well I don't know what Jimmy did in this episode.
43:57 He is thinking: WTF are you doing? Thanks for asking, see also Telepathy´s flavor text (Ninth edition)
great episode as always, you guys! So many awesome moments. You definitely need to bring back these two knights. stay frosty!
When is LSV coming to the show?
When they play legacy cube.
Not sure if I missed something, but shouldn't Jimmy's Finale of Rev have been exiled after the first cast, meaning he couldn't get it back with the flood of recollection?
It has to resolve to exile itself
This was actually awesome, I play commander all the time so it's good to get away from some format staples and see some standard shenanigans.
Niv Mizzet should have returned under her control after Jimmy died
Emma and Cedric were great guests! Great job and thanks for more great content.
Came back to this after over a year. Still one of my favorite episodes, and I don't even play Brawl(because who does nowadays?)
"I don't need saving.." That line still cracks me up. Cedric is the best lol
If only we could play Brawl in MtgArena...
hahaha that would be nice
Your content, is so great all the time guys, youre awesome
Josh at the start of the video trying to say brawl without barfing.
lot of people whining about brawl and downvoting the video not seeing how amazing the content and the production quality is...
Cedric : " I will never financially recover from this"
