Bill, I wanna thank you so much for these rainbow and Kirby restoration videos! They have helped me save quite a lot of money on repairs and have also helped me get my ‘95 d4 SE running better than it did out of the factory lol. Oh and they’ve provided a lot of entertainment! Again huge thanks! 😁😁

Great video,I sm learning so much about rainbow teardown .Its because of them I hot the confidence to fix our broken 2006 E2 single speed. I am grateful for that. just a note on that worn spider , of course a new is better. But if they are not available anymore. Then the old could have been re used. Just add a few nylon/ teflon washers to get the correct spacing. Then it should work just as well. Keep up the good work

The rebuild turned out nice, good thing you were able to find the spider troubles, and I like how there's a little bit of a power difference with the old style separator carried over from the D3c. I wonder if Thomas will let you do some sand/fine dust/baking soda in the carpet tests with that since it has the updated brush roll, I really want to see how much better (or worse) that CWP replacement brush roll is in that PN1.

Just a heads up the old spider separator nut combo is very specific to the d4s. According to rainvac spider separator and nut should all be upgraded together. Im working on my aunts 86 d4 and after bearing replacement is still had a very bad vibration. Turns out the wrong separator nut was used and warped the separator. The d4 nut has a bevel on the back that fits the slanted slot separator and spider a specific way. That separator needs the old spider for it to work correctly. Check out the motor parts section on rainvac for the d4 for more info. By the way thomas I'm another rainbow fanatic from WV

The old nut seats and works perfectly with either the new or old separator. The reverse is not true, however. The newer "flat bottom" nut will not seat properly with the old separator.

Hi i have rainbow se 96 i believe right now (with v2 electrical brush). i have replaced motor, bearings and this aluminum plate below spider. unfortunately spider after tightening this nut on spider it starts to rub on silver plate. i bought replacement here on polish market but it does not fit. it stopes motor completely - to tight, this bushing below original spider does not look like damaged one and has same Hight as in new replacement. rubbing can be heard loudly when vacuum stops and in over all it works a little bit to loud in my opinion. maybe putting a washer below spider (on bearing) to rise i up a little bit will do the trick?

That would be known as a "hack", which the owner didn't want. Let's keep things as original as possible.
