@@WimpyWorkouts You don't get injured because things are hard... you get hurt because something goes wrong. In Ryan's case he got saddle soars. It wasn't too hard for Ryan... he's made this ride before, albeit under different conditions.

"Thank you for this amazing video series, Ryan. One of the things that got to me is when you mentioned feeling like you had let your supporters down. If I take the last summer Olympics as an example, everyone had their favorite athletes to cheer for. Some of them didn't perform as well as they hoped, but that absolutely didn't change the fact that their fans continued and will always continue to be proud of them and admire them."

    Dear Ryan,
I shed a few tears at the end of the video while watching the drone shots. 😢 It reminded me of the moment you decided to go back home. 🏠 Until we arrived in Helena, I couldn’t believe our journey would end there. Even now, watching your video, I still think you made the right call. I was so sad we couldn’t continue together. 😔
It’s impossible to fully capture in pictures or words how challenging these experiences can be. The mental aspect-the stress, rush, weather, and exposure-can’t be completely described. But having like-minded friends around you can get you through anything. And hey, misery loves company, right? 😂
I really hope we can share some new adventures in the future. 🌍🚴‍♂️
Thanks for all those great memories.
    Your tear-shedding, adventure-loving friend,
    Gabriel

While my wife and I were riding across the country, we ran into an westbounder who had hoped to meet up with you somewhere along the GDMBR (maybe just after Helena). It was funny, there was a moment of uncertainty, but he asked if I followed Duzer's adventures. My wife rolled her eyes, and I said "Hell yes-- it's why we're out here!" He let us know that you had to withdraw, and my first thought was, "Damn, it had to be bad bc Ryan knows how to suffer with a smile." It is good to see the hard side of what you/we do. While it's not necessarily selective editing-- who wants to grab a camera when you're in the pain cave, it's strangely reassuring and validating to know that the suck is real. Thank you for that and for all that you do for the bikepacking/touring world. ✌

That hike a bike section out of Lincoln was loooonnggggg…but oh John & Barbara ❤❤❤ We stayed in the cabin next door to Terry with the prosthetic leg the next night - when he also sadly had to make his decision to come off the trail and pedal back to the ranch due to his Achilles. These lessons from you both were so helpful to me when I hit my own DNF later in New Mexico. But first I got such a grand adventure til my end and I’m so grateful! If I ever do this trail, I'd consider bringing a hammock. I finally figured out how to put a layer underneath and around to stay warm and it's great. Couple with a tarp and mosquito net and you get a consistently soft and stable sleeping platform. And if you sleep in a tent instead, use it as gear sling or seat around camp. I always bring one when doing multiday backpacking trips in the mountains and it's great.

Hey Ryan, I don’t think it’s easy to fully understand how tough what you’re doing is. You can only truly grasp it by actually experiencing it yourself. Otherwise, it’s hard to comprehend just by watching. I have a lot of respect for what you’re doing, especially seeing it all captured on video. 💪 Wise.

Ryan we want to see humans like us, not immortal winners with no feelings, bad days, breakdowns.
I don't know why Americans think that quitting is the worst thing that can happen to someone.
Respecting yourself and people who love you and worry about you, is more important than winning or crossing the finish line.
We will be waiting for your next video, whatever this might be. Love from Greece. ❤

Semper Fi Ryan!! You are an inspiration to a lot of people. You did not let no one down. Like other people have said, you got hurt. I only made it 30 miles in a 326 mile ride pulled a right hamstring at mile marker 17 and had to pedal my way to a pick-up spot. I felt bad cause I left my friend to finish it by himself, but he kept insisting that it was cool and well shit happens. Keep that chin up and move on to the next adventure!!!

Talking about the injury - what went wrong, if everything was "fine" years earlier? New/bad saddle, bibs? Weird, since you're so experienced fella!
As for the bike saddles - each time an old friend of mine drops by, he has to test my road bike saddle and verify if it really feels like blacksmith's iron. 🤣😂🤣 I have quite a laugh watching it.
