    I'm still relatively young, but one thing I cannot stress enough is to leave your hometown for a solid couple of years or so. I realize this isn't feasible for everyone, but the point is to get out of the bubble of your upbringing and surround yourself with new environments and new people. It changed me for the better. Not all of it was pleasant, but it was incredibly crucial to my personal growth. I think it's detrimental to society as a whole when people can't, or won't, get out of their bubble.

      I left for 3 years at 21 I went home for 6 months & realised that I had dramatically changed as a person, I could no longer relate to my friends without pretending & they felt the same about me, so I left & never returned. I made a good life for myself

    Wow. I rode thru that area during the middle of May 2021 & it was around 100°f everyday. I can't even imagine riding there in the middle of summer. One thing for sure, you had lots of sunshine for your solar panels. Riding thru there in the winter is pleasurable. Summertime is ☠️.

    Great video. You’ve done what I’ve always wanted to do, ride across Death Valley. When I was in college we would take trips around the country to see landscapes and our first trip was Death Valley and it kind of stuck with me. It’s a scary place to be at, but at the same time ‘eye opening’ and makes you appreciate the vast land. This is extremely crazy to do and props to you. For most people that are hobbyists cyclist, getting up and getting on the road is hard enough lol. But deciding to get up and ride miles and miles in a very challenging environment is something else, more or so mental strength which I’d say is harder to overcome than the physical sense. I wish to ride across this landscape one day, till then I will appreciate this video 🫡

      note: many of them are illegal/ not too big a deal in summer but those dunes typically have 1-200 people on them all day long from oct-apr. if allowed all you would hear is drones. Drones are Not Allowed inside national parks because there are too many people among other reasons.

    as a desert regular who motorcycled through death valley the long way in summer many times (it is very slow and hot on a street bike) have to say i am Very Impressed, motorcycle is nothing compared to this even if i go in daytime.... Wow. Central Valley alone in summer is tough, you sure took it next level! Awesome job with the trip and video, thanks for taking us along. sorry but Please note drones are Illegal in the Park, please dont do that again. They very much disturb that silence you were talking about. Might have been empty in summer but in winter it would be 50 drones in the air at all times if it was allowed at those dunes... please dont encourage that thanks.// fine to run them pretty much everywhere else in the US with obvious exceptions like airports.

I drove through Death Valley by car and it was hard, on bike it must be even harder, but beautiful. Did you met any other cyclists who went through the Death Valley by bike?

      I actually found it more difficult to grasp the size of the earth before this trip. Now I can connect the countries and stories in my mind and therefore I became a determinable size for me. I have lived in so calif most of my life and know the areas you are going to very well. There are facilities for water etc all along the way. Cycling in summer not to smart, easy to die! Mostly quiet except when military jets fly by low ,fast,and loud. For visitors it's illegal to fly drones in park, without getting written permission.

      @the-sunday-ride nice flex, but I don't need to ride it to believe that this episode is hyped up on the dramatic. Far more than any other you have ever published, and yes, I've watched the lot. And that was my point. Not that it wasn't challenging but that you hyped the drama where IMO it didn't add anything to the video. But you do you ok. 👌

      @simonthorball 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I've just watched this again, because I certainly didn't feel after my first viewing that it was a bit dramatic. Nevertheless, had it been so, it would have been appropriate, as Death Valley is oft described as one of Earth's most dramatic places. I can completely understand how Koen felt grateful to have made it out of the region alive. The human body doesn't fare too well when the temperature is above 50'C. (+120'F.)- particularly when one is existing outside. Moreover, to pedal a loaded touring bicycle (not an e-bike) uphill from below sea level to 5,000 ft. is pushing the absolute limit of endurance. Koen was also correct in mentioning the mental toughness required to accomplish such a feat. We should all be so grateful to him, because at a place when his focus rightfully could just have been on simple survival, he stopped to fly his drone, etc. to bring us a remarkable video.

  • @simonthorball
    @simonthorball 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Hej from Sweden. Koen your videos are exceptional. I've twice cycled through Death Valley; the last time on the same route you took...Ridgecrest, Trona, Towne Pass, Furnace Creek. Not in mid-summer though as you did, but in early May and October. What an achievement to do this at the hottest time of the year, and especially during the extreme heat of this summer. I still vividly recall the awesome sight of the road leading up to Towne Pass rising from the desert floor. Thinking that you need to climb up there makes you really question whether it's possible. Very sensible that you started that morning at 4.
