Thank you all for your love and support throughout this experience. It didn’t turn out the way I had hoped, but that’s ok, I have many fond memories. Onward!
Ready to rock wow great news that you are healed Ryan. That is so good to hear. Thank you for this incredible content. You are my Bike God! ❤🤍💙 Thank you for taking us along the rides, lots of love and respect from EU-NL!
I think, you should focus in making you name brand bicycle, instead of trying to prove something that you already know, been out riding for pain is not fun, work in the publicity of your bikes,is my suggestion to you.
You left because you got injured, not because it was "too hard". There is no dishonor in that. Keep your head up and keep doing you.
I will! Stay tuned and thanks for the support
Great point about injury. He certainly didn't quit because it was too hard.
Stopping something because it’s too hard is a perfectly fine thing to do as well.
He got injured because it was hard
@@WimpyWorkouts You don't get injured because things are hard... you get hurt because something goes wrong. In Ryan's case he got saddle soars. It wasn't too hard for Ryan... he's made this ride before, albeit under different conditions.
Dear Ryan,
I shed a few tears at the end of the video while watching the drone shots. 😢 It reminded me of the moment you decided to go back home. 🏠 Until we arrived in Helena, I couldn’t believe our journey would end there. Even now, watching your video, I still think you made the right call. I was so sad we couldn’t continue together. 😔
It’s impossible to fully capture in pictures or words how challenging these experiences can be. The mental aspect-the stress, rush, weather, and exposure-can’t be completely described. But having like-minded friends around you can get you through anything. And hey, misery loves company, right? 😂
I really hope we can share some new adventures in the future. 🌍🚴♂️
Thanks for all those great memories.
Your tear-shedding, adventure-loving friend,
Gabriel
You are as genuine, wonderful human! People are fortunate to cross paths with you.
You didn't fail, but remember what I told you the glory is not failing but rising every time you fail. You did more than a lot of people.
I love that, and I take this message to heart. Thank you
I don't think there's another TH-cam channel that engenders the same genuine love and respect.
Yea, Ryan's a good dude.
@@5150chicago hey, howdy 5150! Be careful out there! We are in Philippines and I've done some touring here. Need to get off the couch more, as Ryan would urge.
"Thank you for this amazing video series, Ryan. One of the things that got to me is when you mentioned feeling like you had let your supporters down. If I take the last summer Olympics as an example, everyone had their favorite athletes to cheer for. Some of them didn't perform as well as they hoped, but that absolutely didn't change the fact that their fans continued and will always continue to be proud of them and admire them."
You rock Ryan! Despite being a patreon supporter my wife and I wait til Sunday morning to watch your videos while we sip our coffee and tea. You do such a great job bringing us into the experience. Thank you for all you do!
Awww! You two are so kind. THANK YOU for your generosity.
Watching Ryan's face change tells you he is in serious pain. You didn't quit! You got injured. Can't wait for the RAGBRAI videos to come out!
Thanks! The Ragbrai videos will have a WAY different vibe ;)
@@duzer RAGBRAI is easy (minus those damn Iowa rolling hills lol.) Saw you at the Expo at the Priority tent. Looked like you had a blast there.
While my wife and I were riding across the country, we ran into an westbounder who had hoped to meet up with you somewhere along the GDMBR (maybe just after Helena). It was funny, there was a moment of uncertainty, but he asked if I followed Duzer's adventures. My wife rolled her eyes, and I said "Hell yes-- it's why we're out here!" He let us know that you had to withdraw, and my first thought was, "Damn, it had to be bad bc Ryan knows how to suffer with a smile." It is good to see the hard side of what you/we do. While it's not necessarily selective editing-- who wants to grab a camera when you're in the pain cave, it's strangely reassuring and validating to know that the suck is real. Thank you for that and for all that you do for the bikepacking/touring world. ✌
Man that dude with the prosthetic leg was awesome to see. I hope he makes it through all the way to be the first to do it!!! Such an awesome video.
Barbara and John are just absolute angels, it warms the heart to see such incredible human beings helping others😊Terry is so inspiring, what a guy👍Speaking of inspirations, you are one tough cookie Ryan👍Some of the scenery in this episode was just breathtaking, I'm sure it helped to keep you going but the human body can only take so much pain!
I met so many great people during these 7 days on the trail. They all fill me with hope!
Seeing the 2020 footage of Mira and John brought back fond memory, much like seeing any Duzer videos. Thank you Ryan. Always look forward to Sunday mornings because of you!
Glad you enjoyed it! That clip of John and Mira brought back all the feels
It turned out exactly the way it was supposed to, Ryan!! Your vulnerability is heartwarming😊❤
I agree with that wholeheartedly
What a fantastic human Ryan .. thank you for always taking us along pal
I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: you are the man! I’m glad you know how to do what’s best for you and your body in these situations, and I can’t wait to see what comes next for you! Thank you for sharing every part of the journey with us, especially the hard ones!
My man!!! So glad that we got to spend some time at Ragbrai this summer! Hope you’re doing well
You're a powerhouse, and I know you would have finished strong if it weren't for those painful saddle sores. Prioritizing health over pushing through is a sign of true strength. Just like Chris Froome, who withdrew from the 2014 Tour de France due to injury despite being a top contender, taking care of yourself ensures you'll come back even stronger. Keep inspiring us!
Thanks! I’m feeling much better and dreaming about future adventures
Sometimes you gotta walk away, an walking away isnt the hardest part, it's knowing when too!!! Rest up, heal and one goes again!!! Thanks for the content Ryan. 🙂✌
I am an amputee, I ride my bike, but not like you all. Was so great to see a like-legged rider. Beautiful Montana. 🚲🚲
21:10 Mile 485 (km780)
Give a 👍 so other people see this and don't have to spend a half hour trying to pause the vid on the exact right frame to see what it says
Ryan, you bring the greatness in everyone you encounter. I’m sad you couldn’t finish because in every location, people have been kind and wonderful and open.
You just added another chapter to your life story. The people and experience's will continue to shape your life. Can't wait for your next adventure. Take care, Al
My heart goes out to you; open wounds are no joke. I am excited for your next adventure, too! Olé, olé, olé, olé! Olé! Olé!
I am so happy you put the 7 days out here. Such quality coverage of terrain and people. Makes me hope for NO saddle sores on my 2025 GMBR Attempt. Tour, not race! Thank You RY!
Even though you never completed, this series has to be one of the most inspirational of recent. HOPEFULLY you and Gabriel will travel together in the future! Thanks as always for sharing! Looking forward to seeing your next adventure!
My heart aches with you watching you decide not to continue. I can imagine how difficult that was.
It’s real. I appreciate the spectrum of emotions.
Thanks for sharing the adventure!
Bravo Ryan! This was a beautiful video. Glad you were able to share this with us. Sorry you weren’t able to continue with Gabriel. God guides us to where we need to be.🚴♂️
You helped me get back on the bicycle at 64 even sober and that's saying something. You can do it!!!!
Always look forward to a new Duzer video!
Yay!! Thanks for the excitement
This. Being human, learning along the way. This is all part of the adventure and you are and remain an inspiration. Keep your head up, you made the right decision. Cheers !
You are an inspiration. We all need to keep looking forward. I look forward to your next bikepacking adventure. ❤
14:50 What a lovely Lady! 😗
All the best to all of you!
You've shown true grit in tackling this challenge, and that's what makes you human. It's okay to not be able to solve everything. In fact, it's a learning experience. So, consider this a win! Keep pushing forward, I'm rooting for you.
My dear God, Ryan you ride like over half the length of my Nation the Netherlands, in one day! With saddle sores,...sleep deprived. My absolute respect for this endurance and than still this fresh and happy. You so deserve the treatment you get. WOW!!! You two are Bike Gods! And than thinking someone missing his right leg, and doing this race/challenge...deserves all our utmost respect and attention. Simply amazing to see your videos on this challenge. Thank you taking us all along to see what you guys and galls are going through. Thank you so much! ❤🤍💙 Lots of love and respect from EU-NL!
Hi Ryan, I've enjoyed this series. The beautiful landscapes, good atmosphere, the ups and downs that tell a story, the heartwarming 'trail magic', etc. And regarding having to quit: Riding the Tour Divide for 7 days is a massive achievement. Quitting was the only sane option given the circumstances. I look forward to your new adventures.
Thank you, I’m at peace with it now and ready for new adventures! Thanks for watching this series
Been looking forward to this video since you had to scratch. Great to see what was going on for you just before you had to make the decision. Oh! That hike a bike section out of Lincoln was loooonnggggg…but oh John & Barbara ❤❤❤ We stayed in the cabin next door to Terry with the prosthetic leg the next night - when he also sadly had to make his decision to come off the trail and pedal back to the ranch due to his Achilles. These lessons from you both were so helpful to me when I hit my own DNF later in New Mexico. But first I got such a grand adventure til my end and I’m so grateful! Also thanks to Terry for gifting me his bag of unopened sour patch kids. ❤
You gave it your best, and made a smart decision to stop. We love cheering for you and I'd find it hard to believe that any of your supporters feel let down (sure haven't seen any indication of it)! The footage was great! As always! Love your channel!
My nephew couldn't make the Grand Depart, and started on 4 July. He is an elite cyclist, and prepared well. He made it 11 days/1100 miles and also made a smart decision to stop. We could not be more proud of him, both in his effort and in his decision making!
Both of you had a great adventure, and are safe and well so you can have further adventures into the future!
Ryan, no regrets. You are so strong and endure (almost) all challenges with such ease and grace and good humor. But saddle sores are the worst, and they can brake the mightiest man or woman. Koodos to you and cheers for your effort! Don't be discouraged, and get back on the bike as soon as you have healed. Big love and respect to you. Mark, from Lovely Ouray Colorado.
Met you on RAGBRAI at a John Deere combine after using the facilities (corn field) Note: I’m a life long Iowan and didn’t know a combine isn’t a tractor. I’m the guy that mentioned your Tour Divide “fail” video and now that I’ve seen your series I have a small idea of what you meant … it’s the real deal.
Great adventure!
Is okay man! You did great and we all enjoyed the journey! Thank you 🙏
Brother, no worries! We all prefer the relaxing, fun, and loving adventures you take anyways! Keep on doin what you love.
This was a great watch. Anyone watching this knew you didn’t finish but watched anyway. Me to try to experience the process and you documented it so well with this adventure. Good decision and great content. Thanks!
Well done! Honest hard times is better content than eternal sunshine. Thank you for sharing!
This has inspired me to try next year. I have never bikepacked before but next year, I'll be out there. Thank you for the inspiration. Aloha
It was clearly the right decision.
Thanks, Ryan for posting these videos. I think they're some of your best. Everything can't always be rosy. Looking forward to your future projects. Eg
If I ever do this trail, I'd consider bringing a hammock. I finally figured out how to put a layer underneath and around to stay warm and it's great. Couple with a tarp and mosquito net and you get a consistently soft and stable sleeping platform. And if you sleep in a tent instead, use it as gear sling or seat around camp. I always bring one when doing multiday backpacking trips in the mountains and it's great.
Sounds like a good plan
@@duzer Might be! Like you know, space is always a consideration. Tough decision. String it up, sit down in it, might never get up until you wake up at 3am realizing you fell asleep in it because you were so tired. lol.
Not only does Cathy have bike parts at the Blackfoot Angler, but she’s got the good stuff! I was really surprised to find my favorite lube there. Folks in Ovando are very welcoming and open to suggestions.
Duzer man, you really had a tough go of it! I couldn’t believe it when your air mat failed on the concrete floor. Sleeping on cold concrete is awful.
What a difference a little sunshine can make!
Everyone is proud of you Ryan .thank you for being so genuine and also introducing us to all those wonderful people. Saddle sores are horrible, body fighting that infection . All the very best to you and to everyone.
Hey man, you did what you could do, there’s no shame. It takes a tremendous amount of effort and resilience to press on the way you did. You’ve got to let your injuries heal. Much respect for you dude, well done. You’ve inspired me. Much love.
YOU ARE THE BEST ! Cheers Ryan
You are awesome, we love you too and cant wait for your new adventures 💙🤘💯
Lesson learned from bikepacking about why I take a self inflatable mattress: with a normal inflatable mattress, if something can break, it will break at the worse time. Now I prefer to pack something bigger (Sea to Summit - UltraLight Self-Inflating Sleeping Mat) but more reliable.
One things for certain Duze, you’ve pushed yourself out if that comfort zone many times in the past. You have experience. You know when to push and when it’s time to throw in the towel. It’s always a difficult call to alter your plans and possibly call it quits. It’s the right call! I too have been in your shoes. Tears flowed, ego was dinged, but it was the right call. We will continue to cheer you on. Thanks for being real! You’re an inspiration and as I commented to you before you are good for humanity! Continue to lead by example!
Great videos, Ryan. I love following your adventures and your honesty.
The single track looked amazing!
Sir. Thanks for sharing this with us. It takes a big man to face daunting challenges. It takes a bigger man to know when to quit ! Obviously a hard choice but ...( No pun intended). The right choice.
Took me a few days to bring myself to watch this one… man you did some massive days… keep going and look forward to the next adventure…
Hey Rayan, each series gives me a lesson from you Dear!
Man, your adventures are aleays breathtaking, keep going!
You are tough and always will be you need tell yourself you made it this far that's more than anybody can do including me ❤ you buddy
thanks Ryan, looking forward to your next relaxing no stress tour, great stuff
You made the right call. No one doubts your ability to persevere and tackle physically demanding challenges. You'll be back.
Whammied. You got whammied, did you forget to say it one morning? Thanks for sharing your adventures, they have gotten me out riding too, so thank you thank you.
I didn’t forget, but the whammy gods beat me this time 😂😂
I need to get back to Montana. Stunning
No judgement. I started building recumbents in the early '80s and the few times I've had to ride an upright bike reminded me why I don't relish sitting on a Coke bottle for hours and hours.
We had a saying in the military Drive on soldiers, and your doing it with joy in your heart. See you soon. SJ
I like that! Thank you
Semper Fi Ryan!! You are an inspiration to a lot of people. You did not let no one down. Like other people have said, you got hurt. I only made it 30 miles in a 326 mile ride pulled a right hamstring at mile marker 17 and had to pedal my way to a pick-up spot. I felt bad cause I left my friend to finish it by himself, but he kept insisting that it was cool and well shit happens. Keep that chin up and move on to the next adventure!!!
No shame when you listen to your body and decide it's time to hang it up. Thanks for sharing your challenges, struggles and your good hearted spirit. I learn something from you with every adventure. Until your next ride....God bless.
Bro trust me or not you are my courage for driving a bike and seeking places, enjoying the moments, exploring myself at the first place, thx a lot for giving us everything what we need, be careful always and Blessings ❤
Nicole and I love your videos, your spirit, and how you enjoy everything around you…well done!!!!
Rien de mieux qu’un Québécois comme compagnie dans ce type de situation! (Nothing better than a Quebecor as pal in that kind of situation!) Hello from Montréal 👋🏻
Thanks man ! ❤
Just want to thank you all your contents! I felt really sad when I saw you was quiting, but proud you made the best decision. Love from Gran Canaria
What you’ve done so far was pure torture. Hold your head high. 👍
Hey Ryan, I don’t think it’s easy to fully understand how tough what you’re doing is. You can only truly grasp it by actually experiencing it yourself. Otherwise, it’s hard to comprehend just by watching. I have a lot of respect for what you’re doing, especially seeing it all captured on video. 💪 Wise.
Ryan we want to see humans like us, not immortal winners with no feelings, bad days, breakdowns.
I don't know why Americans think that quitting is the worst thing that can happen to someone.
Respecting yourself and people who love you and worry about you, is more important than winning or crossing the finish line.
We will be waiting for your next video, whatever this might be. Love from Greece. ❤
Ryan. You done amazing. All the brilliant people you met. You done amazing sharing this with us. Top man ❤🎉🎉
good work. right choice! I got sick when I was filming my 40 day adventure this summer for my channel. It took a while to come over mentally. Had to abort on day 31.
There’s always a race next year Ryan 😄😄❤❤❤. cheers from Indonesia. I’ll wait you bike touring in Indonesia 😄😄
Ryan, I give you a lot of credit for your attitude and perseverance. to continue this race would possibly cause much more severe consequences. You are a hero in my mind. I am sure we will see more of your adventures, but first, heal up.
It’s ironic you had to quit, yet this video and the rest of them have inspired me to ride so much more. Thanks for sharing the journey! And I love the shades you wore.
It's the right decision - it's an injury and that needs to heal. Looking forward to the next journey with you. 👍
HI RYAN 👋
I'M SO GLAD FOUND OUT WHY YOUR BOTTOM WASN'T HEALING & THE DOCTOR / DOCTORS GAVE YOU THE RIGHT MEDS TO HEAL RIGHT AWAY . SOMETIMES THINGS DON'T WORK OUT THE WAY WE HOPED ! JUST GIVE YOURSELF / BOTTOM TIME SO YOU DON'T GO THROUGH THE SAME SITUATION ! ❤BE SAFE ☺️ 🙏 HAVE FUN ☺️ 🙏ENJOYED ☺️ 🙏GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS ON YOUR ADVENTURES ☺️ 🙏THANK YOU ☺️ 🙏MAYBE NEXT YEAR❤ ☺️ 🙏
Great decision!
Saddle sores require 100% staying OFF the sores, otherwise they will never heal. Thanks for sharing!
* So glad my racing days are over! :)
Who cut the onions while I watched you guys at the Llama ranch? 🤗💕
I’m glad you’ll be ok. ❤. Health is the most important thing. You have nothing to be ashamed of. ❤
On another note, can you do a video on saddle sores and how to deal with them?
I’ll do something of that sort!
@@duzer I can’t wait! Your experience enables are success; our success becomes part ours and part yours, imho.
Oooooohhhhh Caaaanada, take our whooooole, lives too. For Ry, will return, to ride the divide, with…you. 🎵
🏔️🚴
Thank you for sharing your adventures and life with us, very grateful. ❤️
Thank you for sharing your adventures with us.
I'm proud of you Ryan. Take care.
Trail angels save lives - just want to parrot others. Being injured and being sensible is NOT 'quitting', it's making the right choice to ride another day. You absolutely did the right thing!
If all competitors had serious saddle sores, there would be no finishers. Looking forward to your next "Out There" journey Ryan!
Talking about the injury - what went wrong, if everything was "fine" years earlier? New/bad saddle, bibs? Weird, since you're so experienced fella!
As for the bike saddles - each time an old friend of mine drops by, he has to test my road bike saddle and verify if it really feels like blacksmith's iron. 🤣😂🤣 I have quite a laugh watching it.
Hi Ryan you did what you were able to do and that's just fine. It was great to see this from a different perspective when you have to stop a great lesson in life. 😊
I appreciate that!
You keep Inspiring brother, you convinced me to try it out next year, hugs from Calgary
Heal those saddle sores then get back out there for another adventure. I know Gabe will miss you. You also motivated him.
Wow…good video, Ryan. I love your socially advanced happy go lucky nature, with lots of valid emotions thrown in the mix.😊
I appreciate that!
Some things are meant to be taken slow. Traveling, sightseeing, the people, the experiences should be savored and not rushed.
Thanks for sharing your journey.
Gabriel seems like an awesome person!!
He’s so awesome
Great 👍
I travel now in nepal by my bicycle
OMG, your commits is incredible. You've women chasing you all over Montana.
You find a lot of Canadians out there.. eh..hope to see you down the trail.. coming from Canada.
I sure like you Canadians!
@@duzer really like the show keep up the good work.. always excited to see more 🇨🇦🤘
