As a guy that didn't have a father to teach me basic handy man things, I rely heavily on these 'dad how do I' videos.. you did a great job at explaining everything. Our diverter was stuck in the shower position and needed replaced. Within an hour of watching this I a proud to say I successfully replaced our spout because of this video. Now I patiently wait on my Jack's Supreme pizza.
A couple of rules for plumbing: 1. Always do your work while the plumbing store is open. 2. Always plug the drain while working because drains attract screws and other small pieces. Also, caulk around the spout from the 7 o'clock clockwise to the 5 o'clock position. Keep the caulk bead small.
Leaving a little opening in the caulk at the bottom allows any water that makes its way into the interior of the spout a way to exit. Water sitting inside the spout will cause mold, corrosion, and other nastiness.

Awesome video! Your calm sense of humor cheered me up. I was kinda grumpy because I was taking a shower just now and the whole spout shot off the pipe like a missile, narrowly missing my legs, leaving me covered in soap and wondering what the fork just happened. Cheers!
I have watched a number of these videos; you provided two key pieces of information: Measure the spout and take the original fixture with you. Both of those kept me from buying a faucet 1/4 inch too long and having to go back. Thanks for the great video.
ty - First time home owner and the bathroom didn't have a faucet AT ALL. Instruction reading is pointless when you're dyslexic, so video's help many of us sooo much!
This video helped me a lot! Thanks for doing this. One word of warning though. In my bathroom the geniuses who installed the plumbing in the original new house (1 year old house) cut a large hole for the copper tube to come through. I did not know that I had to basically caulk the opening shut before attaching the spout because if the diverter leaks then the water will run along the back of the copper tube and leak onto the ceiling. This is exactly what happened. So, make sure the hole through which the copper tube emerges is sealed shut.
so if water is running back towards the wall, along the bottom of the copper tube, and you seal the gap between the tube and the wall, where does the water go? Does water just sit in that chamber of the faucet, potentially damaging the wall over time, or is that a drain hole at the bottom of the faucet attachment, where the water can escape? Is there a better solution to stopping water from going backwards along that pipe? like maybe putting some sort of gasket around it?
After some airbnb guests, my spout has play back and forth and isn't tight against the wall anymore. I now feel pretty confident that I can watch this while I try fixing it myself. Great video! :D thanks

My converter hasn't worked since I bought my house 6 years ago and has essentially rusted shut to where only showers are possible, so i haven't been able to take a hot soak since then. Thanks for this video. I have that little hole in the bottom of my spout and no matter what I stick up there I cannot locate the set screw. Also with much pressure I can twist the spout round and round but it never gets loose and I am terrified I will break it off. Thanks in advance for any advice from you or commenters.
Thank you for your wonderful demonstration & pizza 🍕 commercial!!! You’re funny 😄 & made my day!👍🏻🙌😂not sure if I’ll replace my tub diverter cuz it’s not broken but it’s not as pretty as your new ☝️ one, so I’m thinking about changing it nevertheless! Have a great day! & God bless!🙏🏻
Saving BIG money at Menard’s, eh? I worked at one for years in hardware and the yard. Thanks for the great video! You explained it well and in layman’s terms. I appreciate that because that’s what I needed. Take care!
Going to try this on Thursday. Fingers crossed it works. I appreciate your video. Detailed step by step instructions. We might have the same set up kind of
The following worked great in 8/2018: I sprayed some WD-40 on the rod of the diverter knob, then sprayed more inside the end of the spout on the rod and also on the rails of the diverter. Now the diverter works great, with I'd say 95% of the water being diverted to the shower head. No need to buy Allen wrenches, buy a new spout, or hire a plumber.
I will have to try that WD-40 trick. My diverted sprays a lot of water that is supposed to go to shower head. If I do decide to replace the whole unit on my next week day off atleast I now know it not as big of a job as one would think
My tub spout is probably from 1984 when my home was built. It has no opening for a hex screw or anything on the underneath. I can turn it clockwise about 1". It will not budge to unscrew it, to the left, as I assume it is a screw-on type. I don't want to force it and break any pipes if that's a possibility. Should I be concerned about a pipe behind the wall breaking? What can I do when the spout is stuck? Thank you!
Whatever you do, please do not break any pipes because that would cause a lot of water damage. In this case, you tried, and found that it would not loosen, so I would recommend calling a plumber, but check with other people in your area for a fair and reasonably priced plumber. The cost of damaged plumbing is very high.
Frosty you explained very well however my problem is different. My sprout drips even when the shower valve is shut. No leakage from the shower but leaks my sprout with valve shut what is the solution?

@@FROSTYLIFE it worked! I didn't do any damage to the pipes, don't have a leak, and didn't blow up the house! (I'm not what you would consider "handy"). Thanks SO much for the video!!!!
@@keeslover777 I am very proud of you. I am very happy to hear that my video helped you become handy
Thanks for the video. It helped me fix the leak at the spout of our bath upstairs.
It's 2020 and this helped me do some routine maintenance and I appreciate the video bud
Glad it helped
Thanks, Brother! Great video all around -- humor and technical advice! Love it!!!
I loved every second of it, I live in a household with only one male, ur shower head has not been working, we all work late all the time , I do not believe/approve in roles, “Women belong in the kitchen” and “the Men work” ,
Why not learn something new that we can all benefit from,
Did I mention I was in the beginning of my own makeup session? What are the odds lol I knew this was real when I Pause my own makeup session to give my full attention,
I’m definitely sharing this link, thank you
Nice you totally changed the style and type
Thanks for the excellent training session

+Jim Coll That is very good news. I love to hear when my videos help people replace the faucet or other home projects. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.
Thanks for this video. I have that little hole in the bottom of my spout and no matter what I stick up there I cannot locate the set screw. Also with much pressure I can twist the spout round and round but it never gets loose and I am terrified I will break it off. Thanks in advance for any advice from you or commenters.
Awesome, now I know what to do to replace bathtub spout.. Thank you for your instruction.. 🤗

Take care!
This video made this job easier than expected. Thanks!
Appreciate the help I’m about to head to the parts store right now and fix this cruddy water spout once and for all!

I wish you the best of luck, and some skill and patience. You never know how plumbing will go, but often goes well with patience and persistence.
I know its been awhile since you made this video but thanks .It helped me in 2017 !!
And me in 2019.!!!
And me in 2020!
Thanks brother… this video helped me a lot.. loads of thanks..
I can relate to the part where he decided to get the pizza
You gotta go for take out though!!
You deserve better than frozen pizza!!
Literally said the same thing lol
Going to try this on Thursday. Fingers crossed it works. I appreciate your video. Detailed step by step instructions. We might have the same set up kind of
The following worked great in 8/2018: I sprayed some WD-40 on the rod of the diverter knob, then sprayed more inside the end of the spout on the rod and also on the rails of the diverter. Now the diverter works great, with I'd say 95% of the water being diverted to the shower head. No need to buy Allen wrenches, buy a new spout, or hire a plumber.
I love when my video can help people save money. Plumbers charge a very high amount of money.
I will have to try that WD-40 trick. My diverted sprays a lot of water that is supposed to go to shower head. If I do decide to replace the whole unit on my next week day off atleast I now know it not as big of a job as one would think
Thanks for the tips. Successfully replaced my spout. Well done!
Hi Phil 👋
Please stop the daughter assphalt
This guy is smart and funny! Thx bro!
@@FROSTYLIFE Thank you for taking the time to answer me. I appreciate it so much! Take care!
This video should be viral.
Thank-you! You’re too humble but great.
Just what I needed...and apparently 1.1 million others needed too!
Frosty you explained very well however my problem is different. My sprout drips even when the shower valve is shut. No leakage from the shower but leaks my sprout with valve shut what is the solution?
