Love this song. Sadly, it was the last hit off the 18th album. I was really a big Chicago fan back in '86 and I remember their songs topping the charts and hoping that more hits would follow. Niagara Falls and I Believe should have been hits.
I love these videos because they are recordings of LIVE performances - with all the natural, slightly imperfect vocals - the REAL ones. Human voices in singing are supposed to have the on-the-spot variations that recording studios can sometimes wash too clean. Jason's and Bill's harmonies are fantastic. I wish I hadn't been 17 in '87 because I would have loved to have been there!
"You know it's so ironic, I had to lose to win" That line alone... That ended, yes you guessed it, poorly lol. Several years and a rocky single life later I met the woman who is now my wife... and I've never loved or lived as much as I do now. So yes, this song hits home... wonderfully composed.
Well firstly I absolutely love this song! Twenty seconds in the rich hybrid keyboard chords with tensions are brilliantly beautiful and section 2:26-2:40 the four part harmonies are so sweet!

Nice harmonies. I'm happy that Chicago selected Jason Scheff to replace Peter Cetera over Mickey Thomas. Robert Bill and Jason all contributed to writing those songs as well as singing. The horns were amazing and Walter James and Lee did an excellent job with that. It was as if you were looking back into the past and finding that long lost chicago style that died away. This band been through so much pain. They def know pressure and loss and for a long while they were circling the drain but now they are def back. Congrats chicago terry is all smiles up there you did him proud. You are finally free to be who you are you earned it.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
there is a toxic something inside Chicago that rejects or eats its own and kicks them to the curb, never to be mentioned again OR mentioned via slander at every journalistic opportunity. I guess it depends on the mood and desire to spread disharmony.
@@moodylicious seems too true. Cetra won't even talk about it. He wasn't at their award ceremony either. Damn shame really kath would not approve. But really when he died chicago did too. They were never the same. I think as time moves forward and the drug haze has cleared they realize how incredible gifted that cat was. A guitar player swallowed up in a horn band. He would never get the recognition he deserved. And Peter... well he kinda teamed up with foster and did no those ballads like no for me to say I'm sorry etc. But vhicago is not a man its a band and originally they did much more jamming the horns too. Formula fueled chicago is not the chicago I know. As I recall hot streets was the first album chicago did post kath. I still have it. They where trying to find their sound and were so lost. But some of that album is pretty cool like little miss lovin which had the bee gees as backing vocals and I liked hot streets the single too. When cetra took over as the face of this band they became Corp and pushed out a formula. Many old time fans lost interest in their music. But again... all these changes came about after terry died and although there was no formal leader many of the guys state kath really was their leader. Kath was innovative and driven and a natural talent. His loss drove a wedge in-between all those guys. All that frustration and guilt. But they did have to move on. Again stone is I think how they reached back to the roots of the band. Its a great album with real collaboration. Its like chicago really being chicago. And I love it. I'm sure they have regrets. You can't go through what they have gone through and not but I am happy they seemed to find peace.
@@flynntaylor5459 i don't understand your sentence, "Damn shame really kath would not approve." And you wrote; "But really when he died chicago did too. " I think not. They were too new and too full of their driving passions to not realize Walt's horned rock & roll band vision. To stop being Chicago after only 12 years would have been many ambitions cut off before their time. Terry was closer to Peter than any. Terry was just a bit burnt out from hard partying & no sleep. Had he been rested, sober and in his right mind that tragic accident would not have happened. The day after his death he was to rehearse with his new band Cook County. He wanted no horns in his band. Terry loved Peter, & would not have harshly judged him. The band was doing ballads before Cetera wrote his first #1 ballad "If You Leave Me Now". A deep dive into the trends of the 80's saw heavy metal hair bands being ordered to write ballads. There was a demand for them and girls ate them all up. The men went to the shows to be near all the beautiful girls. Point is the ballads were not only in Chicago but took the music scene by storm. Everyone was doing ballads. PC is harshly, wrongly vilified for them. He was a victim of the record label, demanding he make more. Such a sad, unfortunate thing; the vitriol and divide between Chicago fans. So sorry that happened. PC was not a bad guy. One thing that could not be disguised was the blatant hatred rained on Peter. It damaged his soul and stole a decade from his prime performing years. Thanks to all the dedicated musicians of Chicago who've been beaten, fired, embraced and survived relatively unscathed.
@@moodylicious matter of opinion my point is that they were struggling after kath died. The band members said this in an interview. Kath may have been ready for a solo career. God knows he had that right. But knowledge was from listening to chicago band members talking about how they were forced into preforming ballads only. Yes they did ballads before but they were not known for that. They were more diverse and experimental as a band collectively. I don't blame cetra for the dynamics and fractures in the band but when the majority are not happy with the direction of their band tension builds and maybe peter did not like doing the ballads but you can't argue with success. If you pull their greatest hits is a lots of ballads. Yes I'm sure kath was close to cetra but I cant believe there isn't tension when the numbers 1s are going to cetra. I still stand by the fact that kath wouldn't approve of those 80s hits but when stone of sisyphus came out yes he would have given that thumbs up. And Peter wasn't part of that by then he had his own solos by then. Im sure he is proud that Peter has had a great career on his own terms but I doubt he would have approved that for Chicago. Even bands members havevsaid that terry was not happy with the soft side becoming the sound of chicago. I understand we may differ in opinion and thats OK. I'm def for the early sound with fancy colors dialogue one and two and make me smile. I miss kaths influence in this band and I always will. Peters pop as the face of Chicago became the unraveling of this band. No I don't blame him for it but it is a fact you cannot change. Terry's death really just sped up that process.
Cetera is smart to not talk about his ex band mates. Also "Stay the night " "Along comes a woman " and "Prima Donna " were releases that were NOT ballads from Chicago 17. Cetera actually wanted the rock songs . The radio establishment preferred the ballads. Just saying 😮
The stage setup then reflected the wishes of management, I'm sure, as they brought the singers out front & relegated the horns & drums (and the guitarist, although he at least was on Level 1) to the backline. They were actually encouraged to dump the horns & a number of songs in the 80's had little or no horns in them. The material was largely provided by the producer & his buddies & it wasn't nearly the group effort --- it was like a whole other band, but that's what you had to do to remain commercially-viable back then & they were one of the few bands that were able to continue their career into a new decade/times. I'm a fan of both the 70's & 80's output, more 70's, but when you go see them now, they push the 70's material more than anything & the horns are right out in the front & center & in your face in the mix. It's like they were trying to hide the fact that they had horns in the band & they were simply backing musicians.
Yes I agree- Color my world, Make me smile, dialogue, and many others- Terry Kath was incredible- such as loss, then this perf without cetera- a shame!
There is back there in our lives some girl who was our steady once and whom we had to leave because we saw her making out with another man. I still remember two of them at times but there is no use in recalling things like that. Better concentrate on loving our present wife and all that happened before we met her stays among those things that just could not be for some reason.
Good track and this is preferred over thr studio version which is too overprocessed. Its amazing Scheff did not sound much like Cetera, yet stuck around for 31 years
without Peter this song sounds flat to me Chicago lost its two best Terry a d Peter they played off each other carried each other their blend Peter high pitch and Terry's low just rock this band to sweet success after Terry's death the band made a go of it and was able to recover but when cetera knew he could fly he took to the air
Scheff actually sounds decent singing his own tunes and not forced into Cetera's difficult range. Robert refused to go down even a note or two so both bill and Jason sound strained when not singing their original material. This is about the best I've heard Jason live.
Absolutely, so true. The high keys and the constant touring killed Jason’s voice by the end of the 90’s - very sad. But not sure it was Robert… probably the horns as they didn’t want to transpose and re-learn fingerings and lines. Just a guess though
Back in 1987 I met a woman and it was love at 1st sight for me. She was married to a horrible person and I k ew that I wanted to marry her. So very true. My wife of 20 years was cheating with a co worker still hurts so deep.
I was thinking about her
Visiting the past
Reconstructing details with old photographs
Studying the faces
With an objective point of view
Suddenly remembering doesn't haunt me
At the time you couldn't tell me
That one day I'd be glad
That something that I thought was love was misinterpreted
She had another lover, she emphatically denied
But they were doing me a favor
A blessing in disguise
If she would have been faithful
If she could have been true
Then I would've been cheated
I would never know real love
I would've missed out on you
I watch you sleeping, your body touching me
There's no doubt about it
This is where I want to be
You know it's so ironic, I had to lose to win
I want to thank her (Thank her again)
If she would have been faithful
If she could have been true
Then I would've been cheated
I would never know real love
I would've missed out on you
It's a paradox, full of contradiction
How I got from there to here
It defies a
Logical explanation
If she would have been faithful
If she could have been true
Then I would've been cheated
I would never know real love
I would've missed out on you (Missed out on you)
If she would have been faithful
If she could have been true
Then I would've been cheated
I would never know real love
I would've missed out on you (Missed out on you)
If she would have been faithful (If she would have been faithful)

there is a toxic something inside Chicago that rejects or eats its own and kicks them to the curb, never to be mentioned again OR mentioned via slander at every journalistic opportunity.
@@flynntaylor5459 i don't understand your sentence, "Damn shame really kath would not approve."
And you wrote;
"But really when he died chicago did too. "
I think not.
WOOOOOOOOW.
Jason Scheff 💕💕💕
Robert Lamm is the number 1!
It's like they were trying to hide the fact that they had horns in the band & they were simply backing musicians.
where can i find the rest of this concert?
is there a full concert to this?
Were is Peter?
Good musicians find good singers
Is that Peter on keyboard?
Damn RIGHT!
Yes I agree- Color my world, Make me smile, dialogue, and many others- Terry Kath was incredible- such as loss, then this perf without cetera- a shame!
He had another lover... if he would of been faithful..
is this concert from vienna austria?
There are so many Chicago songs that weren't hits with great hooks...
There is back there in our lives some girl who was our steady once and whom we had to leave because we saw her making out with another man. I still remember two of them at times but there is no use in recalling things like that. Better concentrate on loving our present wife and all that happened before we met her stays among those things that just could not be for some reason.
Would have liked to have DeWayne out front with free reign as in later years (1992 Detroit - Stay the Night)
Me encanta Jason 😂😂😂😂❤❤😂😂😂
Vamos amigos
Good track and this is preferred over thr studio version which is too overprocessed. Its amazing Scheff did not sound much like Cetera, yet stuck around for 31 years
This is my dam song
without Peter this song sounds flat to me Chicago lost its two best Terry a d Peter they played off each other carried each other their blend Peter high pitch and Terry's low just rock this band to sweet success after Terry's death the band made a go of it and was able to recover but when cetera knew he could fly he took to the air
This song is never recorded WITH Peter Cetera. So there's nothing 'flat' to sound!
That's what I said. This IS Jason Scheff 's own song!
Well this is a Jason song and l like him more
Again! That's what I said!
Yes! I was like when did he heard Peter Cetera on this song? Not at all!
The metals
I love Peter Cetera
Not Bad... hard to do Live tho...
The 80s what a great time
temazo!
Unfortunately she was dealing with vibrations: vibrations isn't linear it's flow. Magnetics. Define cheating, now😂😂💫🔥
2019?
Kick Ass Classic
I love jason !
these f...voices ! modulation ...break ! we just have to work man !
He sounds way better singing his songs than he does Peter's
Love this song - Lead singer a little flat, but still awesome.
IF YOU WILL OBSERVE ALL SONGS OF OR ALMOST ALL SONGS OF CHICAGO... LIKE CHURCH GOSPEL..... BUT THEY ARE GREAT INDEED!!!
Uh, they have had a lot of success with Peter Cetera. And Jason as well.
This one is for my ex husband
Raquel Coria HA, I have the same dilemma, except this one is for my ex wife.

Danny Seraphine 👍
