February 29th, I came home from work to find my father's lifeless body in his bed after seeing him that afternoon. This past three weeks have been a very rocky process of grieving, and I find myself here to one of my dad's favorite songs. Didn't say it enough, but I love you Dad. Tomorrow I'm off to spread your ashes exactly where you wanted them. It's the least I can do for all you did for me.

This was a very special song to me and my girlfriend before I left for the military in 1983. It took a year to get back together, and got married a year after that. 37 years married now, and the song brings back many fond memories of our early days.

Wow this song finds a way to really break into the innermost part of the soul. The singer just said he couldn’t stay away from the one he loves and I can relate to it. Great song. Chicago is an amazing band with great music and an amazing history. One of my favorite bands.
The only two band members to play on this track were vocalist/bassist Pete Cetera and the drummer Danny Seraphine. I always think it must be weird for the other members to have such a big hit, but not be on the track. It happened to the late Terry Kath previously when If You Leave Me Now became a huge hit and he hadn’t played guitar on the track.

I always come back to this. After years and years, it still brings me back to an easier, simpler, time in my life. Even though there was torment, they seem to be the good old days still. I remember this song and though I don't listen to it often, it's a part of my life I will never even begin to detest. Like you said, simpler times. I can't remember seeing the video until now but I love the simplicity and it helps take me back to my childhood. Whether it came on the radio or my dad playing this song on his record player or on his guitar.
I've been struggling lately and very nostalgic because of this....and reading your comment really helped as well as enforced how I feel and how I live my life.. always trying to connect to others, stranger or familiar. now i do some stereotyping myself :
the older generations just stick w/ the music they made former life connections to and don't take time to explore and therefore support and nurture new musicians who have the talent and sophistication they say they miss
also are we just gonna memory hole how popular musical acts like Jackson 5, partridge family, monkees, etc didn't actually play their parts but often just acted them out? the music business aint new by any stretch, many generations watched and cheered while it sank it's fangs deeper into the artform
anyway ... this chicago song is well written
