  • Cap replacement on Minolta X700 didn't work? If Minolta parts didn't get the camera to release here is a repair tip I have been doing since the 80's. Every once and a while after replacing the caps and cleaning up the circuit boards the camera still doesn't release consistently, follow the video.

    Wow. I had this exact issue. Camera was turning on, and the light meter worked fine, but the shutter just wouldn’t fire. This was my first EVER soldering job! I replaced the bottom capacitor-which definitely needed to be changed anyway-to no avail. Gave this yellow wire trick a shot and it miraculously worked! Camera fires like new now. Thanks!

    Hey Jim! Thanks for the awesome videos! I'm working on one of these right now. I've replaced both capacitors, but the light meter doesn't read correctly, bottomed out even pointing at the sun. In program mode, light meter displays between 2 and 4. Any ideas what could be wrong with it?

    Hi, I replaced the bottom cap, and did the yellow wire mod you showed here, but the the shutter still won't fire, and won't rewind. Any ideas? There's some videos that talk about another cap on the top side. The X-700 is a great camera, and I'd hate to relegate to the landfill. Thanks!

    I had the same issue. Well, removing the corrosion does actually help, I was quite surprised that corrosion that was barely even visible caused the problem.
    Thanks, I found your explanation in the comments and that really helped. I absolutely did not expect that corrosion could cause such a voltage drop.

      Hey I'm facing an issue where the shutter won't fire and the film advance lever is stuck. Do you mind giving any tips that'll fix this problem? Thankss

      @@prollyharry781 If the meter is still working it is probably the two capacitors (the non tantalum ones) or maybe corosion on the bottom cicuit board. In my case it was both. btw the older X 700 usualy do not have that issue, because they build entirely with tantalum capacitors which are way more reliable. There should be information in the web how to change them, which might be to much for just a youtube comment.

    Hello, I have a small issue with my Minolta x700. The speed displayed in the viewfinder is always very low in "Aperture priority" or "manual" mode. However, if I switch to "program mode" without placing the zoom in the "program mode" notch, the displayed speed is higher and seems more consistent. I admit to being a bit confused. Thanks for your help.
    Ps: I love your videos!

    Nice, but what's the explanation? Current goes where it doesn't belong or a minimum amount of resistance through the board?

    • @ictcamera560
      @ictcamera560  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I think the corrosion make a resistive pathway on the board and pull the voltage down on the yellow wire. I think but cannot prove it. All i know is that it works.

      @@ictcamera560 I'm curious how did discover it

    • @ictcamera560
      @ictcamera560  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@d5husky I had it on my desk for two hours troubleshooting the electronics. I knew it yellow wire needed 2.3v or more to release and when at rest it was testing 2.7v but when I went to release the voltage would dip to below 2v (1.9v if I remember correctly) and the camera did nothing. At that point I lifted the wires to run down the short and by lifting the wires it worked. Many times if you lift the diode on the board you will see corrosion underneath. So I think the damage from the capacitors causes a short to happen but it is only a theory.

    • @d5husky

      and last question, everyone says there are two capacitors, but on top there are two of those, right? I saw another guy replace both on top plus the bottom one. I’ll try to replace it once I buy a better soldering station

    Great video ITCCamera… thank you for the tip, however, if you know any hacks for the x700 Minolta for when you advance the film and the shutter fires automatically. I don’t have any play in the fire button which leads me to believe(a light bulb just came on in my head) that the button is stuck. I hope you have a fix for this because I tried the method in this video and that didn’t fix my issue… many thanks in advance if so!!!
