    This was voted to be watched next from our channels poll!! (at the time of recording)
    THANK YOU TO ALL THAT PARTICIPATED AND VOTED!!
    We decided to go with the runner-up (at the time of recording) which is another John Carpenter fan favorite:
    Prince of Darkness (1987)
    Dir. John Carpenter
    This is definitely now a favorite of mine when it comes to Carpenters films. One of the few classic horrors that explore philosophical/metaphysical elements as well as a good ol' demon!!

    Thank you for this reaction. This movie gets often overlooked and is one of my favourite Carpenter movies (and soundtracks).
    Another great horror/thriller movie from the same year that often gets overlooked is Angel Heart with Mickey Rourke and De Niro.

    23:26 I've heard it theorized that, while the sludge was indeed controlling them, this fellow, by virtue of his great faith, was able to resist it -- to the degree that he fought what it was compelling him to do, enough to end his own life...but then it just took over his corpse.

    • @LazyDazeMedia
      @LazyDazeMedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I can believe that which is why it made him cut his throat in order to shut him up as he was resisting by singing.🧐

    • @Gyrannon
      @Gyrannon ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Until you get to the corpse of the guy covered in bugs, that is when it told them "Pray for death". With that, the guy singing could be treated as a taunt.
      "Amazing Grace! How sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now am found" But then starts laughing. Who found him? Certainly wasn't god.
      And when he comes back, all he does is laugh, despite his vocals being severed.
      That monster can animate corpses & take control of people, and do whatever it wants with them. Even death is no obstacle. So imagine this reality: What if by bringing them back, they aren't fully gone, but forced to watch themselves do what it wants?

    John Carpenter actually didn't do the music for The Thing, tho it very much sounds like it. Ennio Morricone did it, and he's most famous for the music of The Good, the Bad, & the Ugly.

    I'm very happy you guys reviewed this movie. It's one of my favorites and very underrated. I always thought the concept of the plot was very unique. This is about the only movie by John Carpenter that I wouldn't mind seeing a remake or possibly a sequel. If I had to chose I would opt for a sequel but without CGI.

    Love this movie! Sure, there are some familiar elements like zombies and being trapped in a location, but it's also a true original story wise, with the combination of quantum physics, Satan, mirror images, conspiracy, antigod stuff. They don't make them like this anymore, and even back then, it was considered a slow burn. But that's part of the appeal. The atmosphere and the setup are great, and the payoff, given the limited budget, delivers.

    This was sort of blown off by too many. Should have been continued. It's very strong at the end. The mirror/Donnie Darko. Like "Thing", it ended with a "what's next?" but the power of "Darkness" in this seemed to be one of the strongest, and still existing. Just has to find a way from their area (galaxy, universe, hell, afterlife non-solar system, or is this how they/it, has always been?) to earth or wherever they want to take control of and destroy

    When the movie was released over here, I was an apprentice so money was short and spending had to be well planned and organized, so I had to choose between this and Evil Dead 2 to watch at the theatre and wait for the other one to be released on home video. I chose to watch Evil Dead 2 and that is one of the few regrets I have in my life. Don't get me wrong, it was fun and it's a good movie but Prince of Darkness would have been the better experience on the big screen.
    I love the score!
    Not sure about a possible remake, I'm not against remakes in general but I guess, I like the original a little too much to appreciate a new version. Plus, The Fog (2005) is the worst remake I've ever seen up to this date, so...
    One year later, a kind of similar topic (religion, apocalypse, good vs. evil) was shown in The Seventh Sign, which is not horror but a mystical thriller. Sadly, it is almost forgotten nowadays, despite the prominent cast: Demi Moore, Michael Biehn & Jürgen Prochnow.

    • @LazyDazeMedia

      Definitely a win to sea Evil Dead 2 in theaters nonetheless 😅

  • @LoneWolf_Cub_Ogami_Itto

    It isn't satan more so as it is the mirror image of God of the dark side of reality, as they call it Anti-God. The destructor, the creator of darkness. Satan is its son, which is that ooze. Its job was to find a host to become of a physical form, and bring Anti-God back to this reality to conquer it.
    It is sci-fi meets religion, very well done too. This is such an underrated Carpenter film, one of his best soundtracks and the atmosphere of dread is unlike most horror films I've ever seen. The dream transmissions scene gave me nightmares as a 24 year old, movies haven't done that to me since I was a preteen, and no 1 film I've seen since has had this effect on me.

    Of John Carpenter's "Apocalypse Trilogy" I think The Thing and In the Mouth of Madness are better, but I've always found this film the most terrifying.
    The curious mix of religion and science gives an interesting flavour to the story. Ah, yes... the green liquid is Satan a.k.a. the titular Prince of Darkness. The entity he tries to bring into our reality at the end is the Anti-God.

    I'm sure you've gotten feedback and grief about this before (based on your guilty vibe when you broke out the treats here ebfore the movie started rolling) but I have to say: if it's a first time viewing, then popcorn is going to drown out a portion of the audio for you. The snack is noisy inside the head. And it's annoying to some of your audience here, that endless crunching that we can here very clearly. I understand that popcorn and movies go together 100% and it's a truly American thing, but for a reaction video first time experience I'd urge anyone to leave the snacks for another time/flick. Plus, I've watched many reaction videos on YT and you're the only ones who munch throughout the film. Just some (junk) food for thought.
    This is an interesting movie in what it delves into, and I enjoy the score and mood. But overall this is a failure. It feels like it has an identity crisis; does it want to be a thoughtful and creepy scifi tale, or merely a ghastly shocker?
