It is a true pleasure and joy to finally share the first piece of music from our sixth full length album “The Million Masks of God”. It’s near impossible to put into words what this album means to us on a personal level. I’m amazed and grateful at how so much hard work from so many incredible people ended up working together to finally get us here. I’m so happy it’s here. This record, what it’s about and what it represents holds a particularly intimate place in our hearts. Writing it, creating it, building it, destroying it and rebuilding it together over the last two and a half years has been the most gratifying challenge of our career so far. I hope that you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed creating it. Thank you for your continued support of our band. We can’t wait to go on this next journey together. Went to a MO concert in LA 10 years ago and afterwards was waiting outside for Andy to sign stuff and the lead singer of Silversun Pickups showed up and hung out with him. They weren't even performing, he was just there as a friend
The beginning especially.. My first discovery of MO was when they opened for SSPU on April 19th, 2009 at Bogarts in Cincinnati. Cage the Elephant started the night. That was a good one.
@@snohio Same! Except, mine was in Memphis and like a month later. I was there for SSPU, hadn't even heard of MO or Cage yet, and they both ended up being better than the main act
This song and video are masterpieces. The storyline of the video is beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. The fact that the deceased dad comes back to support his daughter while her mom is not paying attention to her speaks to the love that he had for his child. Can't wait for the full album and this song has been on repeat since my first listen.
I saw it as the parents got a divorce and the mother won custody despite the father being the better parent. Now the mother is trying to distance the girl from the memory of her dad, but that memory and love will follow her and "haunt" her no matter where she goes.
@Brohansifat omg that makes so much more sense! I originally saw it as him being dead, but couldn't understand the overtone of hostility. A bad divorce comes so much closer to explaining it.
Yeah, it's an emotionally charged song and video for sure. It hit me fairly hard. I wouldn't expect anything less from this band. I wonder what the lyrics and video are representing/symbolizing. There's a lot to break down. I have some guesses, and some of it is obvious. I'm excited to hear the rest of the album, and to find themes and symbolism across the album.
This song is like seeing an old friend and they've changed and you've changed but the love is still there and the comfort is still there and the friendship feels stronger than any measure of time or distance.
The first time I heard this, it sounded like a song I had somehow known all along. Like connecting with a new person that immediately seems like an old friend. How is that possible? Also, the casting of this little girl is perfect.
Me to!!! I think it's because this song is about the spiritual, metaphysical conscious shift much of us are going through. That hit anything for you???

Definitely not dissapointed, great song, love how you guys are never monotonous, feel like each album has a new feel to it. The girl realizes life/death isn't what anyone thinks it is, but can't genuinely share her newfound perception with the people closest to her without them trying to rip that realization away because it scares them. But thankfully, it isn't something that can be taken away.
My dad just passed at the end of July and it has been the most surreal, soul crushing, unbelievable, thing that's ever happened in my life and this song/video resonates with me on levels I don't talk about. I just found this bands beautiful music... tears are triggered by the beautiful voice and instruments. The video makes me think of my son that I lost 2 years ago in a car accident, less than a year after marrying the love of his life. Her and I still talk, dance and sing with him, like the little girl in this video. It would scare some but soothes my soul to be close to his. Checks to see if The Dear Hunter has sneaked any new music out.... Ok you are correct for now. For real though, MO is a very close second for me, nearly tied.
“You’re not who you were, but you can’t let it go You’re not where you’re from but you’re always alone.” That rings of Black Mile to the Surface. I’m so pumped, this song is great, I can’t wait to see the ones to come.

RIGHT?!?!?! And their live performances are like nothing I've ever experienced. Paul McCartney, a LEGEND, put on an amazing show but still doesn't hold a candle to Manchester Orc. Hyped to see them again next weekend ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!
But for real. Every album I listen to from the first track to the last one all the way through. I have favorites, but I just can’t skip any of the songs. Lol
My 19 year old son thought this was one of my "80s" songs he had never heard. When I asked why he said: "cause it sounds cooler and more original than the current stuff."
Seems im pretty late to the game discovering these guys. I dont listen to radio much and play guitar every single day. This is a great sounding band. Takes a lot to catch my ear and i will definitely be checking out more of their stuff.
Good god Manchester never ceases to make me sob all my demons out. I was emotional listening to the song before I saw the video, but the video made me lose my mind. Will always be my favorite band.
I'm new to your music, I thought I was listening to a SilversunPickups song while I was driving around on our local radio program The Deep End", then the host mentioned your bands name. As soon as I got home I watched the video and was in tears...
It'll only give me five hours of sleep but will be worth it, been too long since I've heard something new, although their Christmas songs spoke volumes
This is exactly the band this song reminded me of. I was hoping on top of hope that their next album would be closer to A Black Mile To The Surface than their previous albums, and it sounds like I'm getting my wish. Anyone who hasn't listened to Silversun Pickups is really missing out.
I wouldn't even say 'kind of'. If this had been posted as a Neck b-side, I would have accepted it without a second thought. That album was when I stopped listening to SSPU, but I'm just as keen for Million Masks of God after this.
Sspu and MO are two of the greatest bands on the planet! This is great. Sounds like a pumped up ‘Apprehension’ which was a really under rated MO song. Great stuff guys!
I had never heard of them until I won tickets to see Cage The Elephant in Dallas. They opened the show, and i was hooked immediately! It was an amazing show, and ive seen them 3 more times i think. Also saw Andy's solo show with Dustin Kensrue, that was also an incredible show.
The way they create a place for people with missing pieces is so incredible and so beautiful. I don't think I have loved a band as much as this one ever. From their beginning, to side projects, to this. It's always exactly right.
I haven't found a way to express it, but this is exactly it. My husband and I have always loved MO, but last year we found out our son was going to have major complications once born, and the day he was born, my husband and I had the silence stuck in our heads. He died the next day and it took me quite a while before I could listen to any MO songs because they hit me so hard after losing him. I feel an inexplicable connection to them now, and I feel like you summed up the reason why. This song and video has made me cry every single listen/watch so far, and it's therapeutic.
Very very moving and touching video, I lost my father in 2019 and this feels as though you’re letting us know that our loved ones who have gone on with out us haven’t really left our sides. Brilliant work.
Everything about this song is perfect. The music video is amazing too! Black Mile to the Surface was one of my most listened to albums for the past 2 years and I can't wait until this one comes out.
Thank you Manchester Orchestra. You've been contributing so much to my mood during Covid. Your songcraft is excellent and we love you. Looking forward to a show in New England. Hope you're all well.
So excited to hear the next album. I can't describe what finding you and hearing the last album meant. I'm so ready for live music and so want you to come out to the west coast so my wife and I can come see you. I miss music that moves me.
How are they not the biggest band in the world!! Over the years ManOrch has proven that they deserve to be my #1, #2, & #3 favorite artist of all time!!
I can't help but cry every time I watch this video. Not because it necessarily hits home, but because it is just so potent with the heartbreak and magic intertwined in this being human. So beautiful.
The little girl's acting is superb. I can't recall the last time a music video made me tear up like this. I already loved the song for a while without seeing the video but now that I did, it made the song even more emotional.
I've listened to this song everyday since it's release...here I am still getting teary a year later. New album is sick AF and is just as good as the others!! Can't...stop...listening
Manchester Orchestra! My Goodness yall have done it again it ! Such an amazing band , My favorite band ! Ive been a fan for over 7 years. The first song I heard at a hookah bar in 2012 "everything to nothing" I wept because it was music ive never heard before
I cannot thank you enough for your music.. from the silence to bed head. It got me through alot in the last 2 years. I'm recently divorced and everything's you wrote about is my life, totally.... its like a circle. More than you know.... You guys are amazing. Thank all of you. You kept me alive and compident that I would make the right decisions for me and my son..... again, thank you. You have no idea what you got me through.
I stumbled across this band shortly after losing my father a few months ago to COVID and every song seemed to fit the rollercoaster of emotions I have been going through. This song and The Silence have been on constant rotation in my home as of late.
It is a true pleasure and joy to finally share the first piece of music from our sixth full length album “The Million Masks of God”.

You did meet someone perhaps for the first time that you can remember. A part of you.
Arguing with the dead
I'm not alone but it sure feels like someone left
Deaf notes and talking heads
Carrying on your debt
Blood on the bed head and volumes you left unsaid
Let 'em talk and let it habit, now I'm afraid you're alone
Oh my God
Let me relinquish and start to distinguish
My past, and my time
You and I are holy fire, so
Oh my God
Let me extinguish the habit
The sequence, the loss, in my mind
Now I believe in the ghost
Ghost
Crawling against your skin
Clutching my neck said, "It's all supposed to end like this"
You and I are panoramic
Now I'm afraid of the ghost
Oh my God
Let me relinquish and start to distinguish
My past, and my time
There is only love and fire, so
Oh my God
Let me extinguish the habit
The sequence, the loss, in my mind
Now I believe in the-
Right by the entrance, you broke
Finally, reality's taking its hold
You're not who you were, but you can't let it go
You're not where you're from, but you're always alone
So I stick a flag in the ground
I think I know who I'm living for now
I am what I am, same above as the ground
It's not what I want, but I'm figuring it out
Oh my God
Let me relinquish and start to distinguish
My past, and my time
You and I are holy fire, so
Oh my God
Let me extinguish the habit
The sequence, the loss, in my mind
Now I believe in the ghost
Ghost
Ghost
Ghost
He was teasing around the town and cried, "Wolf, wolf!"
Everybody came to help, but there was no wolf
The scene where shes sneaking upstairs with the guy while the ghost is carrying her sleeping daughter just about wrecked me.
Yeah, as a dad of a little girl this moment had me in absolute pieces.
It literally took away my breath.
As a father with a daughter, imagining if this was happening to me ate me up inside.
I'm not married and i have no daughter but it had me in tears
In a year full of disappointments, this has not been one of them. I’ll never stop singing your praises, MO ❤️

Pre-ordered the signed prints, starting a frame for them in the morning! 13 years ago I stumbled upon Wolves at Night and I’ve been hooked ever since.
Same! It was Wolves at Night where I was instantly hooked.
Yep!! Straight perfection
I hear a bit of silversun pickups in there, ...Love it!!!!
Me too! Love both bands so much.
One of the best song I've discovered in 2023!! can't stop listening! Just listen to Keel Timing - Bed Head and Annie back to back, wow!!!!
Eternally grateful for you M/O. Thank you thank you thank you for bringing so much comfort and bliss to me for these past 10 years...
I heard this song on the radio and I was unnecessarily excited. I love it way too much.
I love you guys so much. The under dogs of the indies
Steady stream of tears with this video! Touching
Everything about this song is perfect. The music video is amazing too! Black Mile to the Surface was one of my most listened to albums for the past 2 years and I can't wait until this one comes out.
Feels like another distinct move forward. Glad to still be on a journey.
Great song, but you have a nearly 40 year old man tearing up over here. Powerful.
Thank you Manchester Orchestra. You've been contributing so much to my mood during Covid. Your songcraft is excellent and we love you. Looking forward to a show in New England. Hope you're all well.
This is my first time listening to them and I don't know if I've ever loved a band this much just based on one song.
How have I not heard of them till now?! Oh my lord 😍😍😍
i've been playing this song on repeat since the moment it came out
It sound like Kent a swedish band
You've done it again guys! Can't wait to hear the rest of the record!
So excited to hear the next album. I can't describe what finding you and hearing the last album meant. I'm so ready for live music and so want you to come out to the west coast so my wife and I can come see you. I miss music that moves me.
I love this video and song. A special shout-out to the drummer. Just love
the drums.
Already listening again 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻♥️♥️♥️♥️
The little girl's acting is superb. I can't recall the last time a music video made me tear up like this. I already loved the song for a while without seeing the video but now that I did, it made the song even more emotional.
Merci pour cette belle chanson: très forte en émotion(s) et qui nous rappelle que l'Amour inconditionnel ne peut mourir.
Merci encore!
I've listened to this song everyday since it's release...here I am still getting teary a year later. New album is sick AF and is just as good as the others!! Can't...stop...listening

Excellent song from a legendary band. Beautiful video! Love the sound! This tune is getting decent airplay on Sirius The Spectrum
Manchester Orchestra's music is so healing.
I stumbled across this band shortly after losing my father a few months ago to COVID and every song seemed to fit the rollercoaster of emotions I have been going through. This song and The Silence have been on constant rotation in my home as of late.
Sorry for your loss
The video had me crying 😭 Good job guys.
