Greetings from Nova Scotia Canada & I got 1 of them myself & I DID put mine through the dishwasher & it NEVER got hurt in the least !! My only issue is, I wish the blade was a bit longer at LEAST a 5 inch blade or a little more. Besides that, if it's a Mora, it's got a place on my hip !! 👌🤙👍💯

As you said about the eldris handle, I wanted to ask you, does it feel the same while working? I mean, is the material of the handles the same? Because I always heard that garberg is more like harder plastic and not so comfy, and I always was aware of buying it. If it's similar then I can happily feel misinformed. I have eldris and I can't feel the difference between it and the companion hd for example. It's super comfy

I ended up going with the Terava Jaakaripuukko 110, but still would like to get a Garberg eventually. Mora can't be beat with their treatment of their steels, as far as I'm concerned. I have a Classic and the Eldris (which is actually a miniature version of the Kansbol, rather than the Garberg) and they're both razors, and have stayed that way through heavy use with just a little stropping.
I have both the Garberg and the Jääkaripüükko 140 and I wanted the longer blade is why I got the 140 but I truly would put those knives against any knife made both are awesome tools and I recently bought the BPS Adventurer another awesome knife you should check them out and by far the sharpest knife I have ever gotten straight out of the box
Mora's treatment is pretty standard. They are good for the price but their steel isn't legendary or even special. Often times underhardened on the edge, even.
That's maybe why they don't cost a fortune. And all this super steel thing is plain marketing garbage. They used plain iron for knives and swords for centuries and our local museum has many examples of almost perfect condition 1000 year old blades fished out of the local river. In practical use you'll never need any steel any better than 1095 or 01 or 14c28n, only knife companies don't get to keep selling you the same knife with a minimally better steel every year if ppl accepted that. Ive used my garberg for some of the toughest jobs you can think of. I also just acceoted id be able to do the same with my 'amazing (badly finished) bark river'. I was wrong. Only steel nerds and collectors care about all that blurb. Ppl who use these things as tools know dumb it is to spend hundreds on a knife that is in no way better in practical use.@escapetherace1943
I just got mine yesterday and I have the basic polymer sheath. The knife wants to slip out so easily. The retention doesnt give feel great. A light shake upside down and it comes right out. I really like the knife it feels great in hand and I like the way it looks and of course its very functional tho I haven't used it yet. But should be very similar to the bushcraft black that I have. I like the bushcraft black maybe a little better. It's quite a bit lighter and much cheaper but reverse grip with the knife sucks. I also have the condor terrasaur which is right between garberg and bushcraft in the weight category. The sheath is slim and light, knife feels great and does exactly what you need it to do. The sheath holds the knife very securely. If I had to pick I'd go with terrasure. Lights just light and the sheath is better. I just wish it came with a shaper spine. It may not be super pretty or super traditional with all the plastic but it's a great bushcraft knife.
I have the same 'issue' with the Garberg sheath. If you boil some water and put the sheath in for a few seconds, then pinching it a bit (use pliers), it will improve the retention!
Use a "ranger band"-- cut a piece of bicycle inner tube about 1-1.5 inches long, slip over the opening of the sheath. Leave it protruding above the rim of the opening just a bit, so that it provides some grip and friction at the opening. You could also possibly fold it over to where it hugs the inner part of the sheath opening, if it will fit. I did this with my Mora Classic and it's been very secure, although I have had to eventually replace the inner tube piece as the blade nicked it a bit over time and eventually cut it.

With regards to the thoughts on custom knives @9:36 and forwards: The same reasoning is why I've made less and less knives out of wood, tool steels with leather sheaths and instead use stainless steels, g10/micarta, and kydex sheaths. You can spend your time having fun in the woods and not spend time caring for tools.
If it helps I love my stainless steel version, I have both but to be honest I've enjoyed my stainless steel Garberg that much I haven't used my carbon steel properly yet. The weather in the UK has been really wet this year so the stainless steel version is perfect, I gave it a good strop when I got it and it's held it's edge fantastic, very easy to sharpen too.
After a couple years of use I've strayed away from the Garberg. I think the relief edge is just a bit to small for my taste. One area that it really effects is the belly to tip for fine carving its very thick. I found that the relief edge is actually not flat but convexed on the belly portion. I've owned two and both were like this as though the belt was to lose during grinding the blades. I like the Bushcraft Black a bit more, the Garberg is over built but its definitely indestructible that's for sure. I agree their 14C28N is excellent knife steel very easy to sharpen and reprofile. I've turned my Gadberg in a convex blade. ..But it's one I just don't use much anymore. I do love the handle and the material it's very warm in cold weather and tough as nails.

Nice review. I usually choose my Garberg when going out, even though I have more expensive knives in my collection. It really is a great knife. The blade is actually 4.29 inches, not 4.5.
Hello good, a question. When sharpening the Garberg you do it according to the scandi angle or you do it by the microbevel that comes from the factory. Thank you!!
The micro-beveled edge ruins it for me. I think the HD Companion is a better woodworking tool, and much less expensive. I really can't justify the price of the Garberg just for the full tang, as I've never had issues with my other Mora's. I don't need a 90° spine as I almost always use a Bic lighter and have other scrapers for ferrocerium, and I never baton as I always have a saw or axe. I can carve a wedge if necessary. I prefer the Mora2000 and use it the most.
Horses for courses. Carbon steel is fine if you are working in the dry/low humidity and it’s definitely easier to sharpen but if it’s constantly going to be wet then stainless is better, depending on the quality of the steel.
@@stalwart263 Yeah, well, a nice patina does wonders. A bit of rust doesn't really matter to me. Just take care of your blade. Then it will take care of you. Everybody has their own preferences

Same blade mod I done with mine straight away. No need to have that bump and it looks better too!

There are two versions, the Eldris - thicker steel & compound grind and the Eldris light duty - as shown in the video. Hope this helps.

I prefer carbon. It's a bit harder on the Rockwell scale

No it isnt. They are both treated to 57hrc. Additionally the stainless has better edge retention and is significantly tougher.

Yeah, swiss cheesed full tang, more than half of the tang is cut away, its so not a real full tang knife.
Someone who should use an axe. Who started this "battoning" using knives.
It is easier and safer to process smaller wood for fires if you use a knife to split wood. Thats why.
