You got that extremely right... he showed us who Matthew was, and him leaving his job and following Jesus was highly emotional.... like it made sense!!! He needed to belong and feel loved, when he looked in Jesus's eyes that was all he could see

😄Matthew cracks me up! I started watching this two ago, my immediate response was.. "😄Matthew's autistic!" It fits with the show. Jesus cracks jokes and Peter's a griffter lol. The very real element of Jesus and the disciples is a great thing. My daughter is always nearly in tears when she sees Matthew's interactions. He is one of my favorite in this show. Love the actor's portrayal. I can't wait for her to see S2 E3.

I love seeing the other disciples watching & learning Matthew. Seeing there's more to him than just being weird. Simon sees M helping Mary; suddenly S understands compassion is what he is observing. Awesome acting.
The most memorable scene in season one to me is when Matthew shares his Sabbath dinner with the dog because he knows his family won't let him in. The way Paras shows Matthew's grief without crying is phenomenal.
I must admit... he’s one of my favorite characters in this series... when I was a teenager, Matthew was the second book I read in its entirety... Second to the book of Revelation.. And now I can say that I have read the Bible-cover to cover- several times...it usually takes me about four years each time~it’s an incredible blessing each time I read it... Blessed be the name of the Lord...
Your amazing! Seriously I don’t know anyone that has read the Bible cover to cover. I study it, everyday. But I have never read it cover to cover. Keep going, I know the blessings & your ability to see truth through the lies that the world gives us will undoubtedly increase as you keep going. The more you hunger for God’s words, He sends more light & knowledge to you.
I love how Matthew is portrayed! As a mom with an autistic son I spotted the similarities immediately. And seeing the actor outside of his character role, wow, what an amazing actor he is to be able to so perfectly portray those eccentricity when he himself is not autistic, I'm truly blown away!
I connect more to Matthew than any character. The moments where Jesus makes eye contact with him made me weep. Its like he's telling Matthew "I see YOU"

As a teacher who works with students who are on the spectrum, I really appreciate how the person of Matthew is being portrayed. I student of mine told me, "God can use me because I saw him use Matthew". I started crying!! Thank you!!
Zac, I am in no way a teacher. I do not have that gift but appreciate those who do. But I have worked with the special needs class at a previous church I attended and I was so blessed. The students taught me. They are so innocent and precious. Some broke my heart but I loved them all. The most intelligent people in the world could learn a lot from them. God loves us all right where we are. And He can bless others through us if we are willing to let Him.
Matthew's character was an enlightening one to me. I saw humanity in him. I never really thought of Bible characters as being so relatable to modern day people... I knew they were human, I knew their characteristics and all, but... Seeing an OCD Matthew, seeing his body language, seeing him exhibit his skill at math and spotting details changed my perspective. I saw his weakness, his talent, and how God could still use all of this. Same applied to other characters like seeing Thomas clinginess to logic and how he struggled to make sense of a miracle, seeing Nicodemus' curiosity and awe at the realisation that he was "standing on holy roof 😄"... It was all just refreshing. I loved those little details and how none of it compromised scripture. Excellent cast, beautiful too, maybe even too beautiful😄, everyone looked so good... Almost forgot - Peter's relationship with his wife!!! It was so beautiful to see, I loved every bit of it❤️ I'm grateful for this project and I pray God continues to shine through everyone involved, God bless you all
@@PapiSolandFiji Yeah, it's a narrative. There's no record (that I'm aware of) to indicate that he was/wasn't, so it could have gone either way, as long as it didn't compromise his character. I guess what solidified their approach was the ties to tax collection, an elitist position that would have probably required some exceptional skill/attribute - being good with numbers and little details
I cried watching this. Both of my children are on the spectrum. My youngest (9) is having a hard time relating to people. This actually made us connect and cry together!!! God is good!!!!

My husband’s on the spectrum and watching him watch Matthew and feel represented in not only media but faith based media has literally warmed his soul, and watching that with him warmed mine.
As a parent of a child with Autism...watching this character wrestle with his faith as he seeks TRUTH, and the Lord ministering to him, is beyond refreshing, and fills me with HOPE!🙌🏼🙏🏼
There's a special place in my heart for Matthew. Paras Patel is doing an incredible job in his portrayal of this character. What a talent!! I suspect we'll be seeing much more of him in the future.

I am amazed at this portrayal of Matthew. He is hands down one of my favorite characters in this series. From his very first appearance, I could not wait until Jesus called him. I love how this series shows the very real struggles the disciples must have had in becoming friends and trusting each other since only a few were likely friends before Jesus called them. I love that Matthew is presented as someone on the spectrum. And Paras does such an excellent job of taking this on. Well done.

I love that they wrote in that Matthew had a connection with the dog. Many a time I felt more connected to a pet than people. This is not to dismiss people, but to deeply appreciate his creatures.

Matthew is a fantastic, character, I love him, I understand him, I wonder why? I'm 64 perhaps I am on the spectrum & not known it. BUT.... I love the way he is rejected, that's how I feel , but even so Jesus loves him so much. Thankyou for your portrayal "Bravo"
I work with young kids and teens who have ASD and I spotted it immediately in Matthew. I was intrigued and wanted to see how the character would evolve as the show went on. It's wonderful to see people with special needs being incorporated into the show. We are all wonderfully and fearfully made by God.
Paras and The Chosen staff, thank you so much for helping us imagine how Jesus might respond to those of us with Autism, OCD or various mental health struggles. I wanted so badly for Jesus to choose Matthew after the paralytic was healed and there was a moment where He could have... But you built the suspense that way, and I cried when it actually happened later, because I could relate to Matthew enough that I almost felt like Jesus was accepting me, too! I don't know how to express how precious it is that someone has embodied this for me.

Matthew is one of my favorite characters in the chosen. From the 1st episode he was introduced. The way you portray this character drew me and my daughter into the show. And we love watching Matthew grow and learn as he follows Jesus. This show helps shine a light onto the personalities of the Gospel writers. Me and my daughters (9&17) love the Chosen! Paras, your work is so believable and real. It never remotely occurred to me that any of the disciples, might have a personality like this, but they were just people like us! Matthew, to my surprise, is one of the most interesting characters in this series, and you truly are doing a great job. I love what this actor has done with the character of Matthew. I worked with children on the Spectrum and have seen the tremendous isolation they experience. We don't know whether or not Matthew actually was on the Autism Spectrum, but portraying him as such illustrates the crushing societal isolation he must have felt before being called into the discipleship. We truly serve an awesome God who sees beyond our outside layers into our hearts.
The Spectrum afflictions did not exist before the 20th century. None of the great medical observers ever described these things. That includes Hippocrates and Paracelsus.
After the first episode I saw so many negative comments about how Matthew was being portrayed. I couldn't wait to see God's hand in how Matthew would change and grow. I love Matthew in this show. I'm commenting after the end of season 2. I love ,love,love seeing the changes in heart of Matthew and the other disciples!! Bravo ! I can not wait for season 3 !!
He does such an amazing job. In season 1 I was always equal parts loathing him and heartbreaking sympathy for him. It's a tough role and he knocks it out of the park
I am so emotional after hearing this guy's testimony of how he is so connected to Matthew in his own lifes experience. It that God is working behind the scenes and matching each character to the right person. What a blessing.
matthew is absolutely my favorite character. i love that he's not like anyone else, he processes things differently and he acts differently, and most shun him, yet he finds people who accept him and love him.
As a mom of a child in the spectrum, it will forever stay in my mind the way in this series Jesus looks at Matthew and says, “Matthew son of Alpheus, Follow Me”. My dearest hope is that one day the Holy Spirit calls my children, specially my autistic son, and they follow Jesus with all their hearts and all that they are! ❤️

Iam 73, been a believer for over 50 years, read the Bible over and over but grew stale in my intensity of my faith and relationship with Jesus, thank you, thank you, thank you. All of you involved in allowing God to use you. Matthew has spoken to me so much in this film. Something about how you portray Matthew, him not being at all like the other disciples shows how our lovely Savior sees all kinds of hearts. Expects us all to accept as valuable every being. Thank you Father, for letting me stumble upon this so this old lady can have a new fire in her heart for you. Young man your are awesome in how you portray Matthew. I cried as I watched you move around the story. I cried more when Yeshua (Jesus) called you.
Oh my that last episode had me in tears as well!! After all his seeking for the truth and for it to finally be revealed right there in front of him!! Matthew of all people left everything he owned and knew to follow Him, the True Messiah and Lord. That is the Power of the Love and Glory of the True KING we Serve!!! AMEN.
I very rarely comment on TH-cam for varied reasons but I just HAD to tonight. The two characters I identify with most are Matthew and Mary. I think they're so much alike in knowing what it's like to feel like outcasts from society. As a woman, Mary speaks to me in a way only another woman can, I have a similar past and was saved by the same God. TO know the extremities of darkness and to be translated into glorious light is a feeling and experience that cannot be described with words! Matthew's loneliness and separation (physical, emotional) is portrayed beautifully by Paras Patel and there's something in my heart that is drawn to The Chosen's exploration into what his 'could have been' may look like. Whether the real Matthew suffered from OCD or Aspergers no one knows but one thing we know is that he was cut off and separated then chosen and embraced by the One who loves us in all our frailties and infirmities. Paras, Thank you for efforts. Through this role and your performance, you are making a difference to many hurting souls. You're bringing hope and encouragement to all. I'll be praying for you and all the cast that His purpose and power will follow you through life, long past The Chosen.

I am a North East Indian/ My daughter-in-law introduced me to The Chosen. Though I downloaded the App, I've seen all the 8 episodes of Season 1 in youtube. I have shed tears in many scenes. I thin this is the best thing that happened to me in 2020. I am waiting anxiously for Season 2.
Paras, you are divinely hand picked for the role of Matthew. You bring such depth to this character. Such an innocence and pure sweetness to him.....when Quintas said of you "You have no guile" he couldn't have been any more accurate. When you were visiting your mother to tell her about the miracle you saw, and she said, "Matthew, I think it's time for you to go" tears poured out of my eyes. Could she not see her son was confused and in need? I was angry with her for being such a poor mother. I cannot wait for Season 2, to see how Matthew transitions from the tax collector....to the disciple. Paras, you give something so credible and so special to this role of Matthew. You are just perfect for this role. Thank you so much for giving us the viewer, such a beautiful account of who Matthew was. You are precious!

Beautiful portrayal of Matthew! When Jesus calls Matthew and he asks “me” ... and Jesus chuckles... and says “yes” ... this scene brought me to tears! Absolutely the best movie, video or series I have ever experienced. Great job to all “The Chosen” team. I have bought the DVD (and paid it forward) and plan to share and watch again! The scene when Jesus calls Matthew and he responds and leaves is so powerful! My favorite scene so far. I've watched it over and over. "Me?" "Yes", replies Jesus. It's given me a picture of how he calls each one of us-so loving, so personal!

Awwww!!! So great to hear his story. Seriously, the final scene of episode seven when Matthew is called by Jesus is just so mind blowing and beautiful and I could watch it over and over again.
The toughest thing about bringing a historical figure to life is how to fill in the gaps. We know Matthew only from the history recorded in the gospels, and that covers less than 1% of the events he lived. That empty space has to be filled in with what amounts to speculation, but in a way that doesn't diminish or detract from the established parts we know as history. It's a tough task, certainly, but everyone involved with The Chosen have done an admirable job.
Autistic Mathew makes SO MUCH SENSE!!! Honestly, the attention to detail, the precision, he is impeccable! Like every soul depended on him being exact! Mathew is my favorite part of the show, if I could pick any. So sensible! So human! So fit! What you guys have brought to life cannot be put to words. I love the character of Matthew. I was surprised and intrigued by the idea that Matthew could have had Asperger's. It's very believable the way you play him, and he is very sympathetic as well as humorous. My son is mildly autistic, and I recognized immediately what you were portraying. Well done! Watching you portray Matthew, his actions broke my heart.. and when I learned he'd be called by Jesus, made me cry. You portray him well, and I know how it feels to be isolated and alone. Matthew is my favorite character. I absolutely identify with him and see myself just like him. We are so similar. I'm deep on the spectrum and I recognized immediately that Matthew was also on the spectrum when I first saw his character.

I just finished watching S2E2&3 and I remembered thinking “I am SO much like Matthew”. He’s the oddball and I always felt like the oddball in life. I felt compelled to search TH-cam for info about the actor to see if he was at all like Matthew, and in my feed before I searched was this video! I was blown away! I think there are a lot of people like us in the world that feel they don’t “fit in” and tend to shy away from everything in life. I love how Matthew is portrayed! As a mom with an autistic son I spotted the similarities immediately. And seeing the actor outside of his character role, wow, what an amazing actor he is to be able to so perfectly portray those eccentricity when he himself is not autistic, I'm truly blown away!

Zac, I am in no way a teacher. I do not have that gift but appreciate those who do. But I have worked with the special needs class at a previous church I attended and I was so blessed. The students taught me. They are so innocent and precious. Some broke my heart but I loved them all. The most intelligent people in the world could learn a lot from them. God loves us all right where we are. And He can bless others through us if we are willing to let Him.

Matthew's character was an enlightening one to me. I saw humanity in him. I never really thought of Bible characters as being so relatable to modern day people... I knew they were human, I knew their characteristics and all, but... Seeing an OCD Matthew, seeing his body language, seeing him exhibit his skill at math and spotting details changed my perspective. I saw his weakness, his talent, and how God could still use all of this. Same applied to other characters like seeing Thomas clinginess to logic and how he struggled to make sense of a miracle, seeing Nicodemus' curiosity and awe at the realisation that he was "standing on holy roof 😄"... It was all just refreshing. I loved those little details and how none of it compromised scripture. Excellent cast, beautiful too, maybe even too beautiful😄, everyone looked so good... Almost forgot - Peter's relationship with his wife!!! It was so beautiful to see, I loved every bit of it❤️

@@PapiSolandFiji Yeah, it's a narrative. There's no record (that I'm aware of) to indicate that he was/wasn't, so it could have gone either way, as long as it didn't compromise his character. I guess what solidified their approach was the ties to tax collection, an elitist position that would have probably required some exceptional skill/attribute - being good with numbers and little details

My husband’s on the spectrum and watching him watch Matthew and feel represented in not only media but faith based media has literally warmed his soul, and watching that with him warmed mine.

I love how this series shows the very real struggles the disciples must have had in becoming friends and trusting each other since only a few were likely friends before Jesus called them. I love that they wrote in that Matthew had a connection with the dog. Many a time I felt more connected to a pet than people. This is not to dismiss people, but to deeply appreciate his creatures.

I work with young kids and teens who have ASD and I spotted it immediately in Matthew. I was intrigued and wanted to see how the character would evolve as the show went on. It's wonderful to see people with special needs being incorporated into the show. We are all wonderfully and fearfully made by God.
I love it. The tics, subtle stimming, even when the jokes go over his head. I realized that he has ASD immediately.

Paras and The Chosen staff, thank you so much for helping us imagine how Jesus might respond to those of us with Autism, OCD or various mental health struggles. I wanted so badly for Jesus to choose Matthew after the paralytic was healed and there was a moment where He could have... But you built the suspense that way, and I cried when it actually happened later, because I could relate to Matthew enough that I almost felt like Jesus was accepting me, too! I don't know how to express how precious it is that someone has embodied this for me.

Matthew is one of my favorite characters in the chosen. From the 1st episode he was introduced. The way you portray this character drew me and my daughter into the show. And we love watching Matthew grow and learn as he follows Jesus. This show helps shine a light onto the personalities of the Gospel writers. Me and my daughters (9&17) love the Chosen! I love what this actor has done with the character of Matthew. I worked with children on the Spectrum and have seen the tremendous isolation they experience. We don't know whether or not Matthew actually was on the Autism Spectrum, but portraying him as such illustrates the crushing societal isolation he must have felt before being called into the discipleship. We truly serve an awesome God who sees beyond our outside layers into our hearts.

The Spectrum afflictions did not exist before the 20th century. None of the great medical observers ever described these things. That includes Hippocrates and Paracelsus.

After the first episode I saw so many negative comments about how Matthew was being portrayed. I couldn't wait to see God's hand in how Matthew would change and grow. I love Matthew in this show. I'm commenting after the end of season 2. I love ,love,love seeing the changes in heart of Matthew and the other disciples!! Bravo ! I can not wait for season 3 !!

Something about how you portray Matthew, him not being at all like the other disciples shows how our lovely Savior sees all kinds of hearts. Expects us all to accept as valuable every being. I very rarely comment on TH-cam for varied reasons but I just HAD to tonight. The two characters I identify with most are Matthew and Mary. I think they're so much alike in knowing what it's like to feel like outcasts from society. As a woman, Mary speaks to me in a way only another woman can, I have a similar past and was saved by the same God. TO know the extremities of darkness and to be translated into glorious light is a feeling and experience that cannot be described with words! Matthew's loneliness and separation (physical, emotional) is portrayed beautifully by Paras Patel and there's something in my heart that is drawn to The Chosen's exploration into what his 'could have been' may look like. Whether the real Matthew suffered from OCD or Aspergers no one knows but one thing we know is that he was cut off and separated then chosen and embraced by the One who loves us in all our frailties and infirmities. Paras, Thank you for efforts. Through this role and your performance, you are making a difference to many hurting souls. You're bringing hope and encouragement to all. I'll be praying for you and all the cast that His purpose and power will follow you through life, long past The Chosen.

Could she not see her son was confused and in need? I was angry with her for being such a poor mother. I cannot wait for Season 2, to see how Matthew transitions from the tax collector....to the disciple. Paras, you give something so credible and so special to this role of Matthew. The toughest thing about bringing a historical figure to life is how to fill in the gaps. We know Matthew only from the history recorded in the gospels, and that covers less than 1% of the events he lived. That empty space has to be filled in with what amounts to speculation, but in a way that doesn't diminish or detract from the established parts we know as history. It's a tough task, certainly, but everyone involved with The Chosen have done an admirable job.

It's very believable the way you play him, and he is very sympathetic as well as humorous. My son is mildly autistic, and I recognized immediately what you were portraying. Well done! I just finished watching S2E2&3 and I remembered thinking “I am SO much like Matthew”. He’s the oddball and I always felt like the oddball in life. I felt compelled to search TH-cam for info about the actor to see if he was at all like Matthew, and in my feed before I searched was this video! I was blown away! I think there are a lot of people like us in the world that feel they don’t “fit in” and tend to shy away from everything in life. Kathy, there are no "lesser" investors. Each of us that invested did what we felt we could. Certainly the widow who gave 2 coins wasn't counted as a "lesser" giver, so don't consider that of yourself.

I really feel Matthews character here. My nephew has autism and I see him in Matthews character and it pains me seeing these wonderful people being an outcast in the society
