    I have always loved Carol. She is super talented and a genuinely humble human being. Carol set a standard for kindness and professionalism on her TV show. She was kind, down-to-earth, and willing to share the spotlight with other performers. She was never a DIVA. She was never a selfish egocentric monster. She was never jealous of other performers. She was a performer who loved performing. Carol also helped and mentored young actors, actresses, and performers whenever she could. People have always loved her because she was so funny and also genuine. She was not a phony. She was a nice person and that always came through.

      I think I recalled that she always poked fun at herself in that she can't sing and was really addement on some talk show. She said she has no control but if she had vocal lessons to learn how to then she could be a much better singer. But she never took any lessons for the fear it could let her fans down if she changed anything about her. The thing with Carol is she's the most giving of herself to her fans. Also, one of a handful of funny ladies that has always made this guy laugh. The others are/were Lucy Ball, Joan Rivers, and Phyllis Diller.

      @Executive Decision Your comment makes no sense. Have you ever been addicted to cigs? It is a very difficult habit to break. Has no bearing on the sadness of the situation. Are you an adult child of an alcoholic? Because your intolerance for addiction is sad in itself. Addiction doesn't make someone a bad person. And doesn't mean they deserve to die because they were too "weak" to kick their habit. Ooof.

      Executive Decision
      It’s true that her smoking was a damaging habit but even with that, cancer didn’t give her a chance.
      My childhood neighbor has smoked all of her life, she’s now almost 80 and no lung problems at all. And like her I know many other people that are chain smokers and are still living old age.
      I believe cancer is mostly a bad gene in people than a result of a habit.
      Carrie was only 38. Too young to die of lung cancer.

      She had brain cancer. I'm stunned noone here is mentioning that. I didn't know that smoking would cause that and to do it age 38. She was on drugs in her teen and twenties and got clean with help from her Mom. It wasn't easy. They wrote a successful play together not long before she died. Her death really hit Carol hard. So there was a strong bond between the both of them.

      That is, without question, the best comedy bit ever! It also took a lot of imagination to have it so perfect. She said that no one in the cast, except Harvey, knew what was going to happen. They said they knew the cast would break up in laughter. They were correct - in one interview, they said the audience laughed for nearly half a hour which they had to cut out for broadcasting.

    I cannot remember if it was Carol Burnett talking about the death of Carrie, or Mary Tyler Moore talking about the death of her son Richie, who said " It was years before I was able to smile again. Even then, when I smiled, I didn't really mean it." Losing a child has to be a tough thing. As an aside, I agree with Carol in that any relationship that lasted 20 years is not a failure.

      @ahill4642 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      *phew.....* for some reason it really hit me just now when I read you say any relationship lasting 20 years is not a failure. My marriage ended after 22 years, and the fact that your comment made me tear up with gratitude to your for saying that tells me that I *have* considered it a failure. I kind of didn't realize how much until now. I appreciate your comment. Most of all I was sad we let our kids down. I was so determined not to do that. Anyway... 😌 For what it's worth, thank you.

    • @ahill4642
      @ahill4642 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      And... the thought of either one of those wonderful ladies losing kids/being sad is a horrible thought.
      And (😂)... it annoyed me how Dick acted like her divorce was the end of the world or something. Carol seemed a bit annoyed, too. THAT is why some of us feel like failures when our marriages end... because society in general insinuates it's a failure and even shameful. Same thing with mental illnesses, etc. It's better now, to some degree. But so many things have been "shameful" for so long, it's not easy for people admit to them. It creates isolation, and if anything even worse mental health etc.
      Okay. I'll shush now. ☺️
