    First time keeping shrimp. Goal was to keep a Betta, but now, I love my shrimp and want them to survive and thrive without being eaten by a fish.

    Youre tanks and shrimps are beautiful. Is it normal for shrimps to have periods of resting, like for more than an hour? My red cherries are often just sitting there doing nothing. When I watch other peoples vids they are darting around?

    • @BobMossNanoTanks
      @BobMossNanoTanks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tbh shrimp are pretty chill most of the time. They are grazers so they just pick at whatevers in front of them. They tend to only dart around if there is a fresh molt in the tank, as they're looking for the female.

    Fantastic!
    The more I learn about Caridina, the less I wanna try. I'm a planted tank guy that just started getting into shrimp. My tap water is liquid rock, I'll stick to my Neos and fancy Ramshorns

      If you get an RO unit you won't have an issue but they are more of an initial investment. The soil alone is like $30-50 a tank.

      My shrimps are driving me insane. I watch them constantly with a magnifying glass to see if they are ok. But what cld I do anyway if they weren't?😪

      @@debwalls9405 Are you new to shrimp? I did stuff like this when I first started. If your water is good and cycled, don't stress too much. You're more likely to do something harmful by constantly messing with things or adding chemicals to get the water "perfect". As long as you don't make rapid changes or let huge ammonia spikes happen by adding too much food, they're going to be fine. My rule in my 3 tanks is if I think something is dead, I just leave it until I see shrimp swarm it. If they don't, its just taking a break so no worries.

    I fiddle about in my shrimp tank at least 5 times a day , removing snails and anything else I see moving with tweezers. Would this be stressful to my shrimps?? Is this what is meant with changing the water parameters? Is that what Im doing by moving the water around?

    • @BobMossNanoTanks
      @BobMossNanoTanks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It could be, but if you do it often they will get used to it. This is not what is meant by changing parameters.
      Parameter swings happen if you say, add hot water into the tank or add water with completely different pH too fast. There are many other reasons it could happen but you don't have much to worry about with what you're doing.

    The only thing about your videos that upsets me is seeing your hairgrass. I've got some in two tanks, one with sand and root tabs and a budget light, and another with a decent hygger light and eco complete substrate. I get almost no new growth. It must hate my tap water. It's pushing 10dKH out of the tap so I'm guessing that's it. I should just get an RO unit, but I don't have a good spot for it.

    • @BobMossNanoTanks
      @BobMossNanoTanks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Keep it trimmed for a few months. It will spread horizontally, filling out the tank and then you can just let it go ham.

      @@BobMossNanoTanks OK, I'll give it a haircut. When I first planted little sprigs of it, I cut some short to see if there was a difference but didn't notice any. It may have had to just melt first so who knows?
