Heart conditions require lifelong care, report says

Hundreds of thousands of Canadians live with congenital heart disease, and a new report shows odds of survival are increasing.
With patients living longer, doctors say more needs to be done to support their complex medical needs throughout their lifetime.
"A congenital heart disease can have an impact on the brain, can have an impact on the liver, can impact on the kidneys and so on and so on. And so to provide optimal care, you have to have those multidisciplinary teams looking after those patients," said SickKids cardiologist Dr. Luc Mertens.
