Well, I really love their style, but I can't stand sensual lyrics of any sort, so most of Californication is a big turn-off for me. I really want to enjoy that album, but I can't. I have mixed feelings about them
The RHCP’s are also elite instrumentalists. All you have to do is check out live footage of one of their concert intro jams or solos to understand what sets them apart from average musicians. Watching John Frusciante guitar solo like he’s been possessed by Jimi Hendrix’s soul is the pinnacle of what pure rock is all about. Also watch Flea’s speech at the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony for the band. The passion he has always had for rock is what ignites those bass lines that complimented Frusciante’s style. Josh Klinghoffer is a great guitarist too. But undeniably, the reason for the bands ability to keep making great rock music was the fact that Chad Smith, John Frusciante, and Flea were a dream team. Dream teams always go far...think Led Zeppelin and Queen. People will still be listening to and talking about the RHCP’s decades from now.
haven't got super into these guys yet, but their sound is so distinctive. like i'll be listening to an alt station on the way to someplace and if there's a song i havent heard by them playing, i'll just say "chili peppers" lmao
What keeps me coming back to RHCP is the band's inspiring approach to music, and to life itself. For as long as they've been a band, they've lived life according to their own rules- they don't care what anybody thinks, and they never have. They've clung tight to the art of the creative process and make music for the love of making music, and that, along with the true love they have for each other as band mates, I believe, is the reason for their longevity. Listen to them talk in their documentaries and interviews throughout the years (not to mention Anthony's book), and I think you will understand what I'm saying. Yes, they've had rough moments and have been tortured by addiction and death, but they've prevailed through their sheer love of life, music, and each other. For me, understanding their history and personality as a band makes their music all the more enjoyable, and all of these factors combined make RHCP my favorite band.
I'm 39. I remember first seeing the Give It Away video when I was 10 or 11 and thought they were so cool. Californication was incredible I became the biggest die hard fan after By The Way. Especially the way John's guitar playing evolved. One thing about RHCP you have to get used to as a fan is whenever you hear a new song they put out you must give it time to marinate. Almost every time I hear a new song I think "meh" it's cool... then a few weeks later I'm obsessed with it. The BEST example of that was "Can't Stop". First time I ever heard it I "didn't get it". They are my favorite band and I always connect with whatever they're doing.
the energy from the live shows is off the charts amazing too! even if you haven't seen them live, watch one of their live shows on TH-cam and you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. it's so amped up its almost unexplainable. live at Slane Castle is an excellent live show to watch. their energy is constant and their live sound is beyond compare!!
californication by the Red Hot Chili Peppers was my first favorite song when I was 3 or 4 and got even got kicked out of pre school for singing that song in pre school
I am a huge fan of RHCP. Have been for many years. RHCP is one of the world`s greatest bands. Much love from Australia, congrats for so many years performing RHCP.
Are you considering going to the Cage The Elephant and Beck Night Running Tour? I went to their Mountain View Show as my first concert and it was great
My absolute favorite band of all time. I love the fact that they write entire albums that flow from front to back. The variety of their music and consistency between albums is second to none in my opinion
I've been listening to RHCP since 2012 or so, these are my reasons why I love them a lot: 1. Crazy fashion sense- They wear socks everywhere on their body, even on their dicks 😂. Plus they do have some great apparel, like Chad Smith's baseball hat and Flea's skeleton suit. 2. Oodles of talent: They've had a lot of members, a lot of them so good at their instruments. Flea on bass, Chad on drums, Frusicante/Slovak/Navarro on guitars all fantastic 3. Resillience: They've been through a lot of rough times, death, drug abuse and stuff. Yet they battled all that and are still thriving as a band. 4. Insane live performances: They are bloody good live and have influenced many bands who would support them on tours. Just type "Californication Slane Castle" on YT to know why. 5. Really nice guys: They are so talented, big rock stars but very down to earth people. Flea and Chad Smith especially. They love their fans and family and they love their music so much
Its not that i HATE RHCP, I used to love them when i was about 14, and as i started discovering new things that i love, Ive returned back to their albums and theres not much there for me. I like songs here and there, and I think John Fruscante was the defining thing for them, and i love his solo stuff much more than RHCP albums. They're not even close to terrible like people make them out to be, and just because Faith No More (and especially Mr Bungle) kinda did their genre bending thing better (imo) doesnt give way to the extreme hate they get.
It's been 10 years since I became a fan of RHCP and I owe this band for being my biggest influence in music. Also I'd like to see you do a "hate" episode on them XD
Considering One Hot Minute a bridge between Blood Sugar Sex Magik and Californication. They started getting more serious. I'll set this as a marathon, Jon.
you forgot to mention that they are simply 4 dudes who get together bcuz they Love to jam with each other and...if 80,000 ppl wanna show up while they're jamming, the more the merrier. also, the soul that you not only hear from the chilli's, especially during the genius of Frusciante's years, you feel also. Never has a guitarist put so much of himself and his soul into their playing as John Frusciante, that you really feel the music!!! Frusciante's solo work produces the same vibes! chilli's forever.
love their song Under The Bridge. i don't know why, but i do. i am very curious, how did The Red Hot Chili Peppers get their name The Red Hot Chili Peppers?
I kind of what to know why people dislike them as well, the only thing I can think of is disliking the funk-metal sound, the feud with Faith No More and the drug addictions
Came back here after watching the 'Hate' episode and had no idea until now that the whole 'NateisLame liking RHCP' thing is a joke 😂 Also I don't even remember suggesting this for an episode lol
Touching on the Anthony subject and some of the awful things he did. I'm not condoning his actions or making excuses for him but he was in a very deep addiction, he was not himself. Drugs can make you do very stupid things, he's clean now and I believe those awful things are in the past.
Because they're one of the most talented musicians I've ever heard. Flea is my favourite bass player, Frusicante is my favourite guitar player, not really sure if Chad is my favourite drummer, but he's definetely high on my list and Anthony is just a great vocalist. They're really passionate about what they do, Flea even attended music classes at the University of Southern California in 2008, where he studied music theory, composition and jazz trumpet, which only shows you how much he loves music.

Why do you love (or hate) the Red Hot Chili Peppers? 🌶 🌶🌶
Beyond ARTV Flea
Well, I really love their style, but I can't stand sensual lyrics of any sort, so most of Californication is a big turn-off for me. I really want to enjoy that album, but I can't. I have mixed feelings about them
Flea & Chad Smith. That rhythm section is 🔥
@ Fabulous Killjoy Is Californiction really that sensual? I thought they were really sexual before that album, after that, not so much
They seem to have an album/single for every mood or need I happen to have
Also, I grew up with them
Flea's bass skills are legendary \m/
Not really
Theere pretty strong and thats comeing from a non Fan
Thank you NateisLame. So happy that you love the Chili Peppers so so much! :)
I don't get it

I love when a band can amass a discography with so many hits, but maintain a distinctive sound throughout without getting stale.
It definitely confirms they are amazingly talented & willing to try new sounds to stay relevant for the long haul.

True because I can only think of one reason why people dislike them

I Like Trains why do people dislike them?
@Liberation... Because Meg White's drumming is too simple for them
I Like Trains even that can be justified though, it’s been a complaint since forever but Meg’s a great drummer
The best thing about them is the incredible chemistry between Flea, John and Chad. When they go wild during a jam is absolutely insane and magical!
haven't got super into these guys yet, but their sound is so distinctive. like i'll be listening to an alt station on the way to someplace and if there's a song i havent heard by them playing, i'll just say "chili peppers" lmao

5 Reasons Why People HATE The Smashing Pumpkins
1) Billy Corgan sounds like he's vomiting out of his nose when he sings. No offence, that's just what it sounds like to me
Smashing Pumpkins are beyond incredible. Billy Corgan is a genius song writer and a severely underrated guitarist.
