I was a picker for 2 1/2 months but got fed up with the managers harassing me over their quota. The bods continuously stall due to failure or an item on the floor so I had to wait up to 1/2 hour before they'd start moving. But management won't accept responsibility for repeated areas. But they will blame you for not achieving the quota. So I told them to shove the lousy job. Amazon sucks to work for.
Honestly this job isn’t that bad people complain about everything nowadays. I’ve seen people work their ass off with no benefits and little pay at other jobs. I prefer this than dealing with customers. Ppl complain because they are not use to being on their feet but it’s honestly easy.
Yeah I know that if I do this job I'll be fine with it and yeah the jobs such as retail and customer service they don't even be successful for. You can try all day to apply for retail they just won't offer you..
working their ass off with no benefits and little pay is called being taken advantage of. Amazon works people very hard and squeezes every bit out of you, mentally and physically, until you cant take it anymore, however it does provide opportunities to people whom may not be able to get stable employment. At the end of the day, its a warehouse job - nothing glamarous, all hard work, but that don't mean they shouldn't be getting paid well or have a union that looks out for their rights.
I worked at Amazon back in 2013. Stowing then was way different. None of these robots in the video. You didnt stand in one spot. Had to go get your yellow tubs and go to find empty or half empty bins and bin them in. Had to be constantly moving and on a high rate as hired on compared to seasonal employees. Pickers had to move even faster, basically running or briskly walking the whole shift. You didn’t meet rate even barely missing it, it’s a write up. It was way harder then than these newer warehouses where you just stand and stow/pick
I currently work at UPS. I plan on quitting soon to go to Amazon. Ready for a change, a full time job and hopefully get off night shift after 7+ years and get my social life back. I watched a couple of Amazon videos and I like what I see. Thank you for sharing your working experience. I heard from others they have a good way to keep everyone recognized and its not too bad of an environment with other people but for the most part you work alone, which is nice. Unlike where I work at UPS its abusive, get harassed and a lot of favoritism by managers. At least Amazon looks like they adapt the work area, UPS doesn't. I wouldn't mind a little bit of a pay rate dip just to be treated correctly and work with decent people. Everyone in UPS is sour.
@@donneysimpson8536 Im a part time supervisor, my building and sort has no integrity. They don't enforce masks, we don't do covid checks, consistency with discipline sucks, abusive management, HR doesn't exist because corporate wanted to save money, lots on harassment in management, cussing on radios, public embarrassment, poor training, fake paperwork, LOTS of favoritism for performace based raises for pt supervisors from their managers, your title doesn't mean shit in the hub if your in management. Everyone does hourly work even if the union tells you to stop. I can go on and on but 7+ years dealing with the bs, the money isn't worth my sanity and health.
Im with you bro, the bottom row SUCKS, and its always 30lbs dog food bags covering the one little sticker you need so you have to take everything out to get it. Last night was my second shift (training) i was told they want us doing 350 orders/hr on overnight, idk how im ever gonna hit that, i pushed as fast as i could last night and was hitting 215/hr, the problem isnt my speed, its then little things that slow you down, like totes getting hung up, missing items in bin, then you have to scan everything in the bin before you can label it missing. Im never gonna hit 350 with issues like that. What i want to know is what happens if we don’t consistently hit 350, say were doing 250/hr on average, do they fire you for that? If so that’s ridiculous, theres only so much we can do when theres things that impact our pace. I know you no longer work at amazon but any advice would help, thanks brother. Liked & subbed.
I've been working as a picker since September and everything you said was true for me. My first 5 weeks, I went from hitting 180 units per hour to 290 ups. Every week, I'd get checked on because I was so slow. I started feeling like I was just no good and accepted that I'd either quit or be let go. Hated it. One day when my supervisor was checking on me, I was honest with him and asked if there's anyway I can improve. He showed me a couple things that helped me out big time. 1. when picking an item, as you're looking for it in the bin, try and find its barcode so you're ready to scan. That way you're not turning it over searching once you pick it out of the bin. 2. as you're about to scan the item, look at which tote it'll go in. If you position the overhead scanner laser on the lip of the first tote, all you have to do is wave the item there as you're stepping towards the tote it goes in. 3. When it comes to the big boxes on the bottom bins, best thing to do is spin them. The scanner will actually pick up the barcode. 4. As for scanning every item in a bin because the one you're looking for is probably missing, as much as it sucks, there's nothing you can do besides keeping scanning every item. I hope this helps you out like it did for me. If not, my bads. Maybe you can ask your supervisor to help you out better than I could. Good luck!

Hi Donney. Just an update, my husband Kenneth met the pick rate, received multiple praises from managers. When came back from break tonight he was fired.
Maybe they found something not to be true in his application process, but just guessing though......I don't know the company very well. I'm surprised that he wasn't told why he didn't get a reason....he also might be telling you fibs

I thought about applying at Amazon, but after I heard how bad it is to work for Amazon I changed my mind. A person can make the same amount of money working at McDonald's as they can a picker/packer at Amazon and not be rushed to do things
The problem imo is partial automation. We need either full automation or none because humans in tandem with machines aka talkmans or automatic shelves the bar is only going to get higher for humans not the machines. We live in strange times because all of these things are still in their infancy. 10 more years I'd wager it'll all be fully automated most places and the only jobs you'll be able to find are ones operating the machines that do the actual work.
u have to be lucky which warehouse u gonna be workin at bro. the one im at lets you use headphone while u stow and the rate is 140 which is slow as sht compared to the bigger warehouse rate of 250-300+ its borin easy money and lot of vto
MAN IT IZ WILD THAT THEY SAY THAT SOME GIRL DID 400 SOMETHING AN HOUR.....IM CALLING B.S.....THEY JUST SAY THAT TO MAKE YOU WORK HARDER.....THAT IS NOT GOOD MOTIVATION TO ME. I am not about competition in the packing induct and rebinning.....if there were no issues then yeah maybe a 400 is achievable BUT you gotta stop and go get your own boxes and machines break down. I looked up at the monitor abd it said 279 then 306 then 312......and then the guy announces that I only did 150 something that hour??!! YEAH THEY ANNOUNCE HOW MANY ITEMS YOU PACK AN HOUR??!!
It shines a light and shit on where you're going, everything's properly labeled and it's mindless work? Shiiiit they're gonna pay me 17 an hour for this? I'm stoked.
Easy?? They want you doing it 10 second s and under 200 an hour. Scanning mostly slows you down. Big items putting stuff back setting up your carts moving your carts climbing up and down the ladder, and people coming and asking what do you think is slowing you down it's slave work. This video does not do the work justice..
So when the pod shows up there's a light on it to show you which bin to pick from and then you put everything into one bin until it's full? Just asking cause I'm thinking about applying. Thanks
Yes, the light shines in the bin you pick from. And you fill the tote to a certain height, over filling stops the conveyor belt makes an alarm trip. Your trainer will explain all that, no big deal the job is brain less just repetitive and if you're out of shape it will take a toll on your body especially your knees and hands for the picker position.

Now before Covid you had to leave your phone in your car. No headphones, earbuds period!!!(sucks) you walk through metal detectors coming in so they can see if you're bringing in your phone or some other music device. And you walk through leaving so they canake sure you not stealing buds, phones, cameras etc. That you will be picking. @Donney Simpson I work in a manual FC doing pick, we don't have these robots that bring everything to you. We walk upto 26km a night, up and down the isles in the various libraries. I totally agree though, the worst is when your constantly picking from the low bins A, B then A, B again and again, then to F or H and back again to A & B for items. It definitely takes a toll on your body mainly your knees and for most people, they have never spent so much time on their knee's as they can & tend to do, in this job. I guess one thing I see in these robotic warehouses, is you don't tend to suffer like we do, with bins constantly over filled by stow, and having to empty bins to scan all items when you encounter shortages. Our rates are way less than yours though in our type of FC, with only a few top pickers managing to pick over 1000 items in a single 10hr shift, but it is all dependant on which flow the PA assigns you as to what you can reasonable achieve.
@@lazycatt287 I can't speak for what happens in the USA, but here in Australia, we have minimum wage and jobs don't normally come with benefits. Wages for warehouse staff range from AUD 27 to 45 per hour. At my FC it's more like AUD$34.90 per hour. Having said that, our cost of living is much higher than the USA.
I was at a facility that used to be that way but they upgraded and got cherry pickers for everyone to use…I actually thought it was fun driving those things around all day. Better than walking
Hang in there, your FC will go robotic sooner or later. Then you can stay until you reach retirement. I quit in 2020, wasn't for me. I have family and friends that have been at Amazon for years. Salute to all ya'll!
I did this crap for five months and a year later my feet still ain’t right. They push you like a slave, chew you up and spit you out….IJS…make this job very temporary if possible because it’s not worth it physically in the long run. Your gonna walk about 15 miles a day, believe me…
You're right about that..I work at one been there a few months..my feet are ruined..my back is bad cant wear a bra no more cause it hurts me and makes me sick..trying to find another job and not a warehouse one..
While this may be cool to watch and gather insight about some of the amazon jobs( I am currently an amazon employee ) most likely… this person doesn’t have this job anymore. Turn over is high on top of the fact that this is a fireable offense which I just learned recently… any picture/ video in most of the warehouse is, SO just be careful all of you current and future amazon employees! But I am glad this video is still around and I hope this person is prospering and living life to the fullest! I’ve never done pick and I heard it can be pretty tough
It will be 1 or 2 days extra. My shift was 7pm-7am (Wed, Thurs, Fri) and if I would get mandatory, I would have to do 5 10hour days. So I would have to come Mon or Tues or sometimes Mon and Tues. They have an app you download on your phone and you have to check it because they add overtime without warning and if you don't come in you catch points like missing a regular scheduled day so you got to stay checking your schedule.
Im working at amazon as packer and now they trained me into picker, i wish we have that one too because when i pick i have to walk 5 minutes and can't even use bathroom coz it's pretty far and i have to walk for 10 hrs a day.
I've been at amazon for a little over 2 months now. I've got my head wrapped around everything for the most part and honestly like working there for the most part. The only thing I wish I could have explained to me without getting scolded is why there is a rule stating "No earbuds on the floor..."I am not trying to be funny/offensive when I say this, but how can you enforce a rule like that, and have deaf employees working the same job on the same floor?
That is a ridiculous rule. As long as you have maybe only one ear bud in (for safety reasons and so you can hear outside of only your music) and you are keeping up to speed, what is the problem? I’d get a very discreet one and do it anyway. If they let found out and let me go, it’s not the job for me. Peace!
@@thankheavenforseveneleven5522 My argument exactly. I recently submitted a case to HR, but I doubt the enaswer they'll provide me with will be suffice XD

At least let you guys listen to something to help the work day go by. I work in a wafer Fab and I think I would go crazy not being able to listen to my podcasts for my 12hr shift
What's your current average pick scan rate per hour? Ever get approached by your manager for low rate? Is physical strain safety technique an accepted explanation? To change task-position in the building because of the physical condition (maybe continuous knee squat problem) would you go to your manager or would you go directly to visit HR?(to switch to something less hard on the knees back such as Packer or Counter or Spacer, before worsen the knees and before get warnings for low rate) What is amazon "DSP" ?
Yep you don't have time for anything else but RATE! No really heavy items nothing you will have trouble lifting. But those stowers stuff some items in those slots. And girl let me tell you! It's a struggle pulling some items out. If you like nice finger nails and cuticles, picking chews all that up. Trust!

Which involves scanning the slots you pick from and verifying the number of items in that pick slot matches the count your scanner shows what's in there. @@Remy_MiamiFL Hey bro. How is the job going?
I was a picker for 2 1/2 months but got fed up with the managers harassing me over their quota. The bods continuously stall due to failure or an item on the floor so I had to wait up to 1/2 hour before they'd start moving.
But management won't accept responsibility for repeated areas. But they will blame you for not achieving the quota. So I told them to shove the lousy job. Amazon sucks to work for.
Yep, I know what you're talking about from my experience as well. They except no excuse.
From what i heard, they will harrass you about the quota but they cant fire you even if you dont meet it.
@@vergiljerome9126 From what I've seen working there. Low performers don't get fired its the people with attendance issues.
Honestly this job isn’t that bad people complain about everything nowadays. I’ve seen people work their ass off with no benefits and little pay at other jobs. I prefer this than dealing with customers. Ppl complain because they are not use to being on their feet but it’s honestly easy.
Glad its working out for you.
UPS is worse than Amazon?...I am very surpised to hear this.

Good luck!

The problem imo is partial automation.
Honestly it’s not that bad ppl have worse jobs and have zero benefits and work more for $8
@@lazycatt287 I can't speak for what happens in the USA, but here in Australia, we have minimum wage and jobs don't normally come with benefits. Wages for warehouse staff range from AUD 27 to 45 per hour. At my FC it's more like AUD$34.90 per hour.
Having said that, our cost of living is much higher than the USA.

Hey brother. Is the mandatory over time usually 1 more day a week (5 total) or like another hour or 2 tacked onto each shift?
It will be 1 or 2 days extra. My shift was 7pm-7am (Wed, Thurs, Fri) and if I would get mandatory, I would have to do 5 10hour days. So I would have to come Mon or Tues or sometimes Mon and Tues. They have an app you download on your phone and you have to check it because they add overtime without warning and if you don't come in you catch points like missing a regular scheduled day so you got to stay checking your schedule.

I've been at amazon for a little over 2 months now. I've got my head wrapped around everything for the most part and honestly like working there for the most part. Peace!

What's your current average pick scan rate per hour? Ever get approached by your manager for low rate? Is physical strain safety technique an accepted explanation?
To change task-position in the building because of the physical condition (maybe continuous knee squat problem) would you go to your manager or would you go directly to visit HR?(to switch to something less hard on the knees back such as Packer or Counter or Spacer, before worsen the knees and before get warnings for low rate)

Yes those are two different positions. I was hired as a picker and I would switch between picking and counting. Which involves scanning the slots you pick from and verifying the number of items in that pick slot matches the count your scanner shows what's in there. So you will come in as one position and if you want to learn something else you can switch back and forth and I liked that because doing one thing gets boring to me and it breaks up the monotony.

Let it fall. They have ppl authorized to walk in that robotic area and they pick up the fallen items. If you step over that black and yellow line you could be fired on the spot.
Thank you
What facility is this?
Knowing I will be preparing customers orders, I am being acknowledge with both positions just in case I am being a picker as I am a lot more knowledgeable with packer. I am hoping the facility I go to is like this from what I need to do.
no you don't you want one of the smaller facilities without the robots with a few people where everyone is nice
@@perfectgematriadecodesabc4259 it is amazing how much has changed during these two weeks and I am so happy that there are no robots and I love the facility I am.
I work the 6:30 pm to 7 am shift and it’s absolutely dreadful wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemies
That was my shift. Yep it sucks.
Nice work 👍
Good video and honest commentary.
Looks easy man. I’m the kinda guy who hates screwing up, I start November 8th only I’m at the delivery station. How easy is the actual job
Brother you just have to do it to really know if you like it. It's not back break and you don't have to think. But its repetitive and isolated and you have no music or whatever you would enjoy listening too while working.
@@donneysimpson8536 I like isolation so that part won’t bother me. Just nervous about screwing things up you know? Is the job easy to learn?
@@Chrxs210 Absolutely. Like I said you don't have to really think, just find your rhythm to keep up your rate is all. They train you give you a little grace period to get up to rate standard and that's it. Don't over think this job bro, it's not that serious trust me.
@@donneysimpson8536 Good to hear man, appreciate the advice. Excited to start but it seems nobody last longer then a month here lol. Guess I’ll find out and see
I start on the 9th
Are you still working at Amazon, because I start October 23 as a picker Saturday to Sunday.
Naw, I worked there Oct/Nov 2020. But I may go back for a quick minute because I am moving to another state and Amazon is close by. So Ill do it until I find something else.
God bless you stay safe and healthy to. Do me a favor in treat yourself to a knee massager for all those squatting to. lol.
Any tips to become a faster picker I just started working at Amazon 3 days ago
Naw, you just have to find your rhythm. You either have it or not, that's all I can tell you.
I wish I did have some tips for you to make it easier.
Great place to work
Thanks Jeff
Im doing the same thing, It's pretty smooth once you get the hang of it
We need this at our Amazon for pickers where I work at you gotta walk up and down stairs
This facility has the steps too. You can slide them over when you want to reach the back of the top slots. I used those steps at times, just not in this video I didnt need them
But there were times.
I start as a picker today I’m nervous lol but it seem really easy once u get b the jus of everything I think wat my trainer was telling me about our 2nd break gets confusing wen ur on ur last item before u go on break
Just keep in mind Y’all the robots are not in all the buildings…
Yep, some buildings you walking picking this crap.
I hated this job it was just depressing doing it for 10 hours a day
I did from 7pm to 7am. Bro it was a struggle. I only lasted 6 weeks, I was burnt out. Checks were nice because it was peak season and they mandatory the hell out of you. But depressing I strongly agree brother.
Wait it was depressing because the job was boring lol let me work 18 an hour at a boring job no problem lol
I Love it. I'm in my own space and nobody in my face lol
@@frizsld6793 each to their own I enjoy working in construction 12 hours a day it flies by
@@frizsld6793 Then its perfect job for you. Apply, they hire everyone, no interview to worry about. Just a swab drug test and back ground check and you got the job bro, go for it everyone doesn't hate it I got family thats been working there for years.
I would much rather do picking instead of packing mixed outbound because the things to pack is too heavy and hurts my body.
Picking tears your fingers up. Because stow has to stuff packages that do not always fit. And you have to work it out of some TIGHT! Spots.
Same here ): I was looking to transfer from shipdock. It's the most labor intensive department and my body has changed from carrying heavy boxes
I am stowing time to time my problem is magenta color that not allowing to stow I really having hard time with it. Also i loved in this video how white light pointing on item box where to pick, we dont have it
I’m so glad you left. I heard it was horrible. They expect humans to work as fast as the robots.
Ikr!
They do..want you to at a rate of 9 secs and under at 300..its crazy..I cant wait to leave as soon as I find another job
I bearly have 6 day working Amazon I struggle when it does not want to scan I press unscan I get a tote and scan the box but for some reason it does not change the cart !
I start sa FC picker in couple of days... Do u think I should get gloves similar to the ones you are wearing? Any other items you suggest I would purchase before starting?
They supply those gloves im wearing. And they have a machine you can get up to two pair a week because you wear them out. Trust me.
@@donneysimpson8536 cool. Good to know
Get them ibuprofen and Tylenol
Been doing it for a month sore every night.
@@COFFIN-hx3xs oh no. I do have one of those percussion massagers like the Tim tam pro so I plan on using that after work. Maybe even during the 30 minute break
This is what I've been doing for the last 5 months and some days are though but I do love it lucky I can keep up and move very fast my rate is around 400 plus an hour sometimes 500 all because when I pick I think of being at the gym working out and it's helps me losing weight and making money lol 😆😅
I love the way you look at it and make it work. Like I tell folks everybody doesn't hate it like I did and a lot of other ppl. My cousins and brother n law been at Amazon for years.
Same here I just don’t think bout it
Aesthetically pleasing.
I start on the 19 as a “warehouse associate” let’s see how it goes🥶
Don't be nervous or worried about not being able to do the job or messing up. It is brainless repetitive positions there. You're either going to like it or not, that's the thing.
Good luck and congratulations to you.
How do you know when to send the tote off and when it is full? Thank you for showing us this.
You dont want anything sticking out the top because it will trip a senser and stop the line.
Hi how you know that toot is full and now time to push the toot?
Some people stuff those things like crazy
Your correct about who couldn’t do that job for $18 an hour. I worked at Amazon but it was the last stop before being shipped out. I left because I never thought I’d get assaulted while I was working but here we are! Management did absolutely nothing about it so I said I don’t need or want this shit, so I left and never went back.
there’s a transfer opportunity in the A-Z app for picking but i don’t know if picking os worse then stowing
it’s way worse my back kills me everyday from picking i used to stow and it was chill
Thanks for showing this. Iam very interested into possibly next year transferring down to homestead, FL to their FacilityCenter. I'm an Amazonian in philly but, interested in relocating back to FL 🤗
Thanks for the video, Donney. I was born in 1951 and our shifts are only 4 1/2 hours (15 min. break about halfway through). Thanks again, bro!
You are very welcome
@Green Sneakers & Ham th-cam.com/video/-RbPCJOFiw0/w-d-xo.html
@Green Sneakers & Ham I would love to stow into the pods daily, but you have to do the job they want you to do.
@Green Sneakers & Ham I'm in a small Warehouse and I am a flex worker. You choose the 4 1/2 hour shifts you want and can get before someone else gets it. Choose your shifts on the Amazon a-to-z app. They will explain everything to you, or you can call ERC, and representatives who work from home in many different parts of the world will explain whatever questions you have.
Very cool video
That looks freaking awesome!!! They just move around by themselves?! 😂
I’ve done 6 other jobs here picking and counting have to be the worst jobs. It’s a mental and physical game for sure and the rate is Ridiculous! I’m hitting a 280 and they want a 350 and that 280 is on a good day. Transferring as soon as possible 😭
Ah I feel u .I want quite now to much pressure
Have interview tomorrow at my fulfillment center. I hope I get this position.
What was the interviewing process like?
No interview, when I applied I chose my shift and they scheduled me to come in and take a pic for my badge , swabbed my mouth for the drug test ( if you smoke weed just stop for 3 to 5 days you will pass) and ran my background check. Thats was it unless they changed up. I was hired Oct. 2020. I no longer work at a fulfillment Center.
Thanks you. Understand what's you do. Great 👍
Hi bro i just star work at this position now so how many total units i need to do a day ? And the amazon they actually need employee do exactly how many total United a day so please let me know bro thanks
When I was there in 2020 our rate was 250+ per hour. I don't know if it changed or not. But thats it. So if you work 12hr shifts 250 × 12 or 10hr shift. Will give you your day total.
@@donneysimpson8536 I only do 10hour a day and i work 4 days a week so I wanna make sure my position now is very important or no or just a basic normally job
How much do they pay weekly
How lucky he is with such easy job, I'm from Vietnam and we don't have such easiness here.
Just started this, what was your rate brother?
I stayed between 200/220 they stayed telling me my rate was low.
@@donneysimpson8536you need 350 minimum
yo I'm newly hired . Can you tell me how to process an unscannable. I didn' t really get the trainer. After scanning everything and all and it won't scan, I press the "Unscannable" button first on the screen and then get new and put the item and scan the new tote.. How do I make the screen move to the next item? Does it move automatically to the next item after I scan the tote, or do I have to press something?
If I remember correctly. You press unscannable item button. Place that item in a new empty tote. Scan the bar code on that tote and push it through immediately like you would do a full one, and your screen should move on. It's been a while but I believe those are the steps.
@@donneysimpson8536 I'm sorry, where would I push the new tote? Like if all the racks have totes, where would I push the new tote that I got?
@@AdvantageYT No problem, you just push whatever tote that is the most filled, and use that spot. After you push the unscannable item tote. Place an empty back in that spot and your screen will continue giving you picks. If you have anymore questions just ask.
@@donneysimpson8536 So in other words, you're gonna do a total of 2 pushes? First, the full one one that is on the rack must be pushed, and then the one that contains the unscannable?
@@AdvantageYT Correct, two pushes. And you can push any tote you choose on the rack to make a space for unscannable item tote. Myself I used to push the one hand the most items already in it.
I originally applied to Amazon because of videos like this and seeing people pick while live on TikTok. wellllll I got a job and was assigned to pick… but at my warehouse we spend the entire 9 1/2 hours walking around pushing carts grabbing items off of the non-moving shelves. it’s exhausting and I can’t wait to be able to switch to packing
Question is this at the Amazon xl warehouse?
I dont know the difference. Please explain?
I recently applied for a Amazon XL facility, and the job description said that the warehouse houses big bulk and heavy items..🤷🏾♂️ here in Florida I’ve seen lots of smaller facilities but only one massive one , I wanted to know how different the roles were.
Is this inbound pick or outbound pick?
Out
I just like & subscribe they got me part of the team that gets orders ready for customers relying on Amazon's services do you know what that is I start on feb 22
I switched from stow to pick. I like that full body exercise.
I just started two days ago as a picker
Happy NewYear!🐅
